I think Madonna/whore complex is a little bit different than you described. From what I've read it's more like when a man marries a chaste good girl, but then continues to see her as such even after they have kids. So when the guy has some particularly nasty sexual needs, he can't take them to his wife. He couldn't do that dirty stuff with his wife, that's the mother of his children! So he seeks out a side piece, someone that wouldn't judge him for whatever incredibly dirty things he wants to do. I imagine for the most extreme cases, this includes everything that isn't procreative missionary.

I think it's comparable to AA/BB in that it's self destructive and not productive for healthy long lasting relationships. But I think it's the default for women to fall into AA/BB whereas I think it's only a minority of men who fall into the Madonna/whore complex.

I don't think so. Mr. nice guy is a compromise that the woman usually doesn't want. The chaste good girl, even if a man does end up marrying one, is still loved and desired.

Lots of the qualities that make someone a bad boy (and consequently good in bed) - confidence, lack of neurosis, enthusiasm, aggression, self assurance and athleticism - just happen to be the exact qualities that make someone totally unsustainable as a long-term romantic prospect.

Why would any of those qualities other than aggression cause someone not to be a good long term romantic prospect?

The reality, as usual, is that ALL women are a balanced mix of madonna and whore, to varying degrees. It's all shades of gray, just like most things.

Very few men are pure alpha or pure beta and I suspect they have their own problems adjusting to society just like superprudes and supersluts.

I've started thinking of the Madonna/whore complex as more similar to the creep/orbiter double bind. Like, it sometimes seems as if there are only two labels available to women: we can have sex and be labeled whores or we can not have sex and be labeled prudes. RP men describe a similar dilemma. They can express sexual desire and be labeled creeps or not express sexual desire and be labeled nice guys. For a woman, the only escape is a successful long-term relationship - once "taken," she's just Mrs. So-and-so, neither a whore nor a prude (unless you ask her husband). Men also have an out: if they're sexually successful, they get to adopt the "player" mantel, which is a lot better than being dismissed as a pussy or a creep.

This also explains why men and women don't share the same end goal. Women want to look back on their lives and see a loving relationship that either tamed their "slutty" impulses or melted their "prudish" frigidity. Men want to look back and see sufficient sexual conquests to ensure they aren't remembered as merely "nice" or "creepy."

Fortunately, as we get older, labels become less important. We might still pursue the same desires but our motivations shift to reflect what gives us pleasure, not what soothes our egos.

They are comparable, but in my experience, the "gap" between what women consider AF and BB is much, much wider than what men consider madonna and whores.

A good example of this is comparing the sexual appeal of nerds and athletes of males, vs the sexual appeal of nerds and athletes in females.

I don't think so. Why?

Because a man may want to marry the chaste good girl, but he will want wild sex with her. It's sometimes the wife who doesn't want to have this kind of sex with her husband. Every guy wants to marry the girl who is a lady in the living room (which means loyal, well-behaved, classy, etc) and a slut in the bedroom (which means willing to have fun, spontaneous sex with her husband).

However, some women spend their lives having sex with womanizers "for fun" and then one day realize they need to get married ASAP and decide to marry a beta guy to feel safe and to end their loneliness. BUT they don't feel that their husbands will be able to provide them with the "wild sex" they used to have when they were getting laid with those players. The husband is the boring provider, she needs him to feel "safe" but she dreams about having wild sex with more adventurous men. That's how many women think.
