I definitely wouldn't count hints as asking someone out, and I'd be surprised to see other people who counted that. If I said "I asked her out" and you replied "what did she say?" and then I replied with "nothing, she didn't get my hint", I'd sound pretty strange.

No. I think you are confusing flirting/hitting on someone with asking someone out. To ask someone out, you have to make definite plans.

IMO, you have to openly ask. Hinting around has it's place, but it's not asking someone out.

The typical move adults make is both causally flirt with one another. Then someone asks, but they only ask because both people are into each other.

It is so simple it is stupid. Did you ask them to go out to some where?

"Hey wanna go to the beach" - asked out

"Hey wanna help me study" - asked out (under right context)

"Hey i think ur cute" - didn't ask out.

It would have to be a case where one party asks the other to accompany them on an outing of some sort, in which the party that was asked to the outing is aware of the sexual or romantic interests of the asking party.

I say the last sentence because I have seen guys asking a girl form their class to study with them, and somehow trying to turn it into a date(ended up really bad).

Besides the contrived "netflix and chill"? Usually when you arrange a 1 on 1 situation, that isn't about work/studies, I consider it to be a date. So yeah, you simply ask.

Is "asking out" a euphemism or something? I "ask out" my friend to go out to watch the game. I "ask out" my sister to brunch. I "ask out" my coworker to grab a cup of coffee. All these involve a "Hey so-and-so, do you want to do thing at place at such and such time?" Other than that, you are going to have to be more specific.

I'm not sure why you're expecting the definition of a commonly used phrase to evolve based on what "pill" someone is. This is like asking what counts as "running" or "swimming". When you ask someone out, you ask them to do something with you at some place and probably some specific time.
