So whenever I think of hypergamy I think of Harry Potter because it contains one of the most hypergamous characters in modern literature: and it's not a woman. Peter Pettigrew seeks out the most powerful alpha he can find and latches on. He is loyal and adoring to James and Sirius because they have power, but he betrays them the minute he finds someone with more power(Voldemort). I think looking at the way men are "hypergamous" with each other is important, because of why they do it. Peter is vulnerable and dorky, he knows if he doesn't kiss James' and Sirius' feet he's SOL and going to be bullied. If he didn't kiss Voldemort's feet he'd be dead. Cowardice aside, a lot of the motivations behind Peter's actions are his own powerlessness.

You see this all the time in insecure boys without the confidence and charisma to be a leader themselves: they get power by proxy by kissing up to the leaders. So can we not apply this to women, who also look to get power by proxy and latch on to powerful men? Isn't a huge part of the problem the fact that they don't feel capable on their own? Wouldn't the solution for women be the same as it is for boys? Build up their confidence by separating them from the leaders, teaching them self reliance, and showing them they can do it on their own.

And isn't TRP the antithesis of this? TRP encourages women to be submissive and dependent on their "captain". And it encourages them to depend on strong leaders: alphas. So by becoming an alpha to attract women, aren't you encouraging hypergamy as much as you're taking advantage of it? And that puts men in the position of always having to be the most powerful man in order to keep their helpless feeling women with them.

tl;dr: when you separate status seekers from powerful leaders and teach them self reliance they chose friends/partners based on affection rather than power. So shouldn't men who hate hypergamy try to keep women away from alphas?
