I see plenty of chiding about not talking about all the finances in advance, and practical advice from men and women who took on more financially irresponsible partners.

Essentially, he's asking for blue pill advice. He's getting it. If the glass is half full, this is all a good risk. If it's half empty, it will be seen as a bad risk.

That's the nature of risks, after all.

Me, I don't like lies that big - they tend to travel in packs.

This is huge and she concealed it on purpose until she was locked in.

No matter how you look at it it's a huge deception.

It's a shitty deal but he should have known first, and the fact that he didn't only goes to reinforce that he is her bitch, he didn't even have it in him to be sure he was becoming contractually obligated to deal with her legal problems before he married her.

She now sees him as a huge pushover faggot and rightfully so.

I await his dead bedroom post in 2 years when he can no longer co tinue to support her financially in this fashion as he has run out of savings.

When was the last time you saw a woman take some serious consequences for misbehaving? Almost never lol. Social bias, women are wonderful effect and pussy pass just magically take care of women time and again.

Note how almost none of the PF commentators are like. "Wow that's fucked up that she concealed that." But so many of them are like "Hey OP make sure you don't do X,Y or Z or you might cause her to resent you. Don't be a typical male shitlord, shitlord!!!"

It was just straight up expected, in society's eyes, that he meekly accept the fact that she waited to drop this debt bombshell on him until after the marriage contract was sealed. That he meekly accept paying for everything and absorbing that loss. And that he never, ever question her behavior. They're partners now -- that means the man takes the hit and the responsibility and quietly suffers while the woman skates away consequence free and does whatever she wants.

Given the hand this chap (/u/PFPrivacy) has been dealt, I believe he has dealt with the situation in a very mature and level headed manner.

His questions are natural ones for an unawakened man. He should have done due diligence.

My own experience with dealing with a wife's debts wasn't a good one, so I fear that once his wife is free and clear, she is going to act on her natural hypergamy and find someone else.

Men need to really understand this. A woman's and a politician's gratitude is always for things you can do for them in the future, not the past. I hope for his sake that her perception of his future utility to her is as rosy as it was on the day she shoehorned her debts onto him by marrying him.

What do you want to happen?? People to encourage OP to be mad at her? It's unproductive. He's dealing and doing a damn fine job from what I can see. Should she have been honest about her debts? Absolutely. Does condemning her now make the situation better? Absolutely not.

He shouldn't directly pay. He should have her live for free but also force her to pay her entire income except for her own transportation costs (which she pays) to pay off the entire debt within a year. Have her pay nothing for rent or food until the debt's completely resolved and make sure everything goes there. It solves the problem the fastest possible way and faster is always better.

This isn't a life ruining amount of debt. She could pay that off in about 2 years on her income alone if she was motivated enough. Him paying it off seems more like a function of his anxieties about their collective finances than anything. There was really no advantage in terms of credit rating paying it all off at once, rather than aggressively. Even the difference in interest relative to the safety net he lost spending 6 months of his post tax income makes no sense. Especially if they want to buy a house: not having a good downpayment is going to cost them a lot in terms of the type of mortgage they can get and even their interest rate, on a loan much more than 17k. There is no reason for him to pay off a low interest student loan all at once either, and that's a really small student loan.

I guess what I'm saying is this girl isnt that responsible, but this guy is unnecessarily debt-adverse, and that is what is driving his decision-making process, not his wife.
