Why do White Knights white knight?

All the "White Knighting" I've ever seen was by people who were calling out someone else's shit. People normally like to defend each other man or woman especially when they share something in common or simply because unfairness and aggressiveness should be called out. I've seen plenty of men get in between an argument between two women to settle down the situation so that it doesn't escalate any further and I've seen plenty of women do the exact same thing.

It's mostly a crazy affinity for women. Anything "cute," "pretty," "adorable," or "beautiful" will be white knighted in today's world. Cute animals over at /r/aww, for example.

Men could really cool their damn jets though. Favoriting the cute and the beautiful is volunteering to not see straight, and not seeing straight is going to get your shit run over.

That being said, I do white knight my fave celebs. Just because. I know it's wrong though.

The women that they rush to protect couldn't give a rat's ass about them. What are they hoping to gain by being a woman's loyal poodle? Poontang, maybe?

Perhaps they don't give a rat's ass about the woman, they just don't like people being shitty?

I have never seen it as "white knighting", merely calling out someone for their inappropriate behavior. For me it deals with the fact that if you disagree with someone's behavior towards another, male or female, you have every right to support and say "not cool" to abusive/discriminatory behavior. If you're going to act like a bitch, then you should treated like a bitch.

Part of the cultural phenomenon that is currently taking place where people feel good for being self-righteous and calling out/intervening in what they believe are "problematic" behaviors. I certainly think a lot of white knights want to prove to a woman that they are mature and noble for defending their honor. It's really another spin on the whole "doing what you think will gain respect with women" narrative that men have been learning (i.e. "just be yourself!" "just be nice!" "just white knight!") haha.

But I would argue that there is a way to be a respectable white knight. Hank Moody's character in Californication is pretty "alpha" and sleeps with his pick of the litter, but he also white knights quite a bit.

I think it's society's thoughts more often than not. We've generally reinforced "blah blah blah women are dainty and delicate and need protecting blah blah chivalry and a true gentlesir". Their is also I suppose a side to it of poontang (like in the case where Tyler from RSD humiliates some super whiteknighting beta dude who thought he was treating some women like an "asshole" despite that they were lapping it up the idiot).

I've seen it in the wild so to speak, it doesn't end badly per se, it just never ends how the want(with the girl rewarding her brave sir with sexy times).

It usually ends with the guy getting laughed at by both the 'asshole' and the chick(who either leaves with the asshole or leaves with someone else(never the white knight).

It's the whole "Nice Guy" thing. They do it because they are "such a nice guy", except that they do it for selfish reasons. If you want to help people and genuinely do it for the sake of being there for them, it's cool, but when you start to do that stuff for something else, it just looks well, ridiculous, in a sense. I mean, the tie in is there, would love to explore that more. It's a fine line though. If you are legitimately calling someone on their shit, it's fine, but the intentions are the important part.
