Women didn't work, they didn't earn money. Women were the prize to win. This is also why men prove their devotion by being able to win enough bread to afford the woman's desires and luxuries. For this, the woman was supposed to provide her companionship and to be the mother of his children, to raise them and take care of their living space.

But I thought we had equality now. Women can work and win bread too!

I've never understood the idea of "whoever asks pays". I mean, it doesn't work that way on non-dates. If I ask my buddy if he wants to go grab a burger its not just assumed that I will be paying for his food.

It seems like a way to create an illusion of fairness, but almost always get the guy to pay since men will almost always be the ones doing the asking.

When my boyfriend and i go out he prefers to pay. We made a deal that since he pays for most of our small dates then ill pay for a nice fancy one every couple months. We both like it, and its not like we stick strictly to that idea. Find what works for both and its all good.

Everytime me and my girlfriend go out to eat I always pay. I am a gentleman and I like always paying, but she's offers to pay all the time but I decline her offer, it's because she doesn't have a job and no stable source of income. But she agreed that I'll let her start paying once she gets a job
