I'm 6'5, 265lbs down from 330+

I've tried every "diet" in the book and the only thing that has worked longterm for me is CICO (Calories In < Calories Out). It's really simple, eat less and move more. I also utilized intermittent fasting to help stay within my calorie allotment. It allowed me to eat whatever I want, which definitely allowed me to stick to it longer; however, and interesting thing happens after awhile: you start naturally gravitating towards healthier foods that are more filling. Sure, you could lose weight eating 1500 calories of candy every day, but you'd feel like crap, still feel hungry, and probably face a host of health issues.

Figure out your TDEE at tdeecalculator.net (set it at sedentary & don't take into consideration exercise) and then start eating 500-1000 calories less than your TDEE each day. Listen to your body and experiment with your daily intake. Stay consistent with lifting and don't eat back those calories.

I have already started working at my diet and that is going well. I will resume lifting this week and will be consistent. This sounds like a silly question, but does anyone have experience coming from my physical situation and how long it will take to start to gain the aesthetic from this point?

If you're consistent with weight loss/caloric deficit you should be able to see at least 1+ lbs a week drop off. Along with lifting, you should start to see visible changes in a few weeks.

I also have much work to do to become the true leader of my wife and family. I ask permission far too many times. I travel for work and my wife works outside the home. That will not be able to change anytime in the near future, so it's something I will have to work around and through.

God says you're the head so you just have to step into the role and be. Plan and take the initiative. Ask for advice or help but don't ask for permission.

Your wife working is not "unChristian" or anything like that. It may be against "traditional Christian Conservative" beliefs but nowhere in the Bible does it say wives/women can't work. Proverbs 31 indicates that the wife probably had a family business of some sort, and Titus 2 indicates that wives should have a priority on the home though does not exclude other work.

I started at 285lbs 6'0" with a bench press of less than 135 and body fat in the upper-30s. Within 2 months I was 255 with a bench of 225 and body fat in the mid-20s. A few months later I was 225 with a bench of 285 and 15-17% body fat, fluctuating - and I have hovered around there ever since.

When I cut, I cut hard. 500 calories a day or less. Sometimes I'll fast for 5 days straight with nothing but water and vitamins. So, my weight loss was initially very rapid. I haven't done a cut in some time ... I'm probably over 225 again, actually, but my lifts are all also going up. /u/warriorjesus1915 and I are doing a cut together for the next month or two - I'll probably pace myself in a more healthy way this time, but I expect it'll take another 2 months before noticing differences, whereas the hard cuts gave results in less than a week.

Great news that you’ve made the decision to be healthy! Obesity is an early death sentence.

It’s physics: less calories = losing weight. Go all water immediately, and nothing else for the next 30 lbs. small salads no dressing only when eating out. Tons a good advice, but don’t overthink it, just stop eating as much.

I can tell you that lifting has been the most vital component of the journey for me, and even more so, remaining consistent, not only with how often I go to the gym or how much weight I lift, but also in how I live my life outside the gym. If a really cute girl brings me cake or cookies, its a pass. If I work next morning, hit bed early so I can try and squeeze an activity before work, or maybe go get started with work earlier to go do something after. Commitment to consistency needs to be whole and complete.

Hey, you're on the right track. Celebrate that! You don't have to get all wild with every kind of fad diet. Start getting rid of sugars and breads. The pounds will melt off.

The other thing is to start being a leader in your own home. It might take longer than you want, but at least you are on your way. It will take about a year to raise your sex rank 1 point. That's how it works.

Long time reader. Finally made an account and posting to speak to this.

Had almost exactly your stats when I started my journey.. 260lbs, 5'11". Weight loss was far from linear, from 260 down to 220 was pretty easy maybe 2 months--literally any minor improvement in diet or exercise resulted in weight loss (2lbs/wk probably).

From 220 down to now 190 was real slow...2 yrs of ups and downs fighting my metabolic "set-point" (and will be very slow if you're a life-long fatty like I was).

At 220, friends and family were regularly commenting on my appearance (no longer the fat guy), at 200 is when IOI were regular at work and in social situations. Still not 100% clear that I lift when I take my shirt off but pretty decent.

Remember that 80% of "dieters" are back at or above their starting weight 6 months after the "diet".

Take a life-long lifestyle approach and remember that something is always better than nothing and consistency is the name of the game: * 1 day of poor eating isn't a reason to throw in the towel * a half-hour workout snuck in before work is better than 1/2 hour watching tv * a 200 calorie deficit is still a deficit * do not find an excuse to do a 4000 calorie blow-out and undo a week of work * 4 weeks of moderate heavy-lifting is better than a week of balls-to-the-walls crossfit followed by 3 weeks of doing nothing

Consistency over perfection. Slipped up and ate something you shouldn’t? Doesn’t matter you’re still on your grind, reorient and continue on. Missed a workout today? You’re alright just keep going. Pussy out on a set? You’ll get it next time.

If you haven't trained weights before, don't be dismayed. you are in a good position for novice gains and fatloss, recomping essentially.

Take ownership of the food you eat by cooking meals and rejecting fast foods. good starting place to ground yourself.

I am currently doing Snake Diet (youtube) basically fasting with salts. My goals are different to yours.
