The recipe I use is celery and carrots, mix with chicken bone broth, chicken breast in crock pot or on stove until breast is cooked/carrots are softer. Then my dad usually strains all the celery out, but I eat it!

My husband prefers some sort of biscuit/corn bread with this recipe. A good add is some Tobasco after it’s cooked for flavor!

Honestly cut everything you have in the kitchen up and put it in, items that take the longest to cook first. Lots of aromatics. Lots of salt, because you really need the electrolytes when sick. If you have or can get bone broth that will make a big difference too (lots of nutrition in that). Go with an herbaceous spice profile for the classic chicken soup taste; you can Google something like "chicken soup spices." IME there's a lot of success going with a Mexican spice profile as well, though, and if your captain has a stuffed nose the higher spice level might be helpful.

I do Carrots, onion, Celery, sometimes greens/kale/beet leaves, bay leaves, pepper, salt, Paprika, and chicken. I use bone in chicken to make the broth while everything is cooking then when the chicken is done, I shred the chicken and put it back in the pot. I also add butter and garlic at this step. I also add homemade dumplings here too. I make them and drop them in, covering for like 10-15 mins until they float.I stir it throughout and let it stay on simmer to stay hot until dinner. I save the bones to make a bone broth later which we use for soup, sauces, or by itself. Hope this helps! Soup is an easy one I can whip up for him and he always loves it(sick or not!).

This recipe is my go-to. My man absolutely loves it. He has me freeze it in batches so he can heat it up later. I recommend reading the comments to make the recipe the best it can be.

You need a good broth to start, I use two chicken carcasses, roast them for 40mins to an hour and put them in the slow cooker for 24 hours with a roughly chopped carrot, celary, onion, 2-4 bay leaves, some mixed herbs (I don’t usually have fresh to hand) salt and pepper and I love garlic so I throw several cubes in there. Onion skins will give it a nice rich colour

For soups I keep them chunky, for chicken soup I use thighs (there my fave part anyway) I keep the bones on whilst they’re cooking in the pot. My man is Mexican and they tend to put corn in their chicken soup so I’m learning to adapt that as I am from a completely different country. (They also love their hot chocolate, whenever I’m sick my partner piles me full of it, when I had covid it was the first thing I could taste when I recovered which made him very happy, he says it’s the cinnamon that helps.)

My favorite chicken soup is take a whole chicken, put it in a pot, cover with cold water by a couple inches, chop up a whole head of celery, including the leaves, put that in, add some garlic cloves, simmer for a couple hours. Then make some buttered rice, ladle some soup over it, squeeze some lemon, add salt and pepper to taste (you can add quite a bit of salt here!), and enjoy!!!! 🥣

Whatever the recipe, always hit it with a little lemon in the end! The acid gives an excellent depth of flavor to the broth.
