I personally wouldn't date a man younger than me but I feel like a 2 year age gap isn't significant, even my parents married and were together for 20 years and my mom was older for two years too!

I have dated both older and younger men - in my 20s, I primarily dated men in their 30s, and throughout my 30s (now to 40) I’ve dated guys in their 30s and late 20s. My belief is that relationships closest in age work out best and 5-6 years in either direction tends to not be a big deal.

I would agree that I’ve dated older guys that are less mature than some of the younger guys I dated. There are a ton of positives but let me list out some of the more negative considerations:

Some men are looking for only a sexual fantasy with an older woman. The cougar/milf experience. They may expect you to fit into some ideal they have rather than get to know you for what you are.
For relationships that take off, kids is one of the number one barriers. If things start to get serious, I would discuss this upfront. If they are young, they may also tell you what you want to hear and then change their mind later.
Young guys (20s) are still figuring out themselves so you might find their perspective on things changes a lot more than yours. They may have an opinion one day and then all of a sudden it changes up. I would say this is normal during this phase of life, but if you are older you just have to manage around it.
Lifestyles can be very different. The younger guy may still be in party mode, going out all the time, hanging out with friends, staying up late when you may be more chill and structured.
Depending on the size of the age gap, the guy may be nervous about introducing you to people in his life and concerned of what they will think.

Every guy (and woman) is unique so these are not going to be challenges in every relationship but they are common ones to look out for. I believe any type of relationship can work because people want different things, but definitely go in eyes wide open.

Edit: just reread that it’s only a two year age gap, that’s nothing to worry about, it’s essentially the same age. I’ll leave this up in case people are interested in legitimate large gaps with younger men.

I'm 28 and my BF is 25. Initially I hesitated to pursue a relationship with him because I never dated anyone younger than me and I had the bias that younger men = immature but we are SOO compatible and out of all my boyfriends he was the only one who gave me the commitment I want.

Within 3 weeks talking online he claimed exclusivity with me and within 2 months he flew to my country to meet me and my family and helped me out financially (he sent me $3000 dollars to help build our new house), buying me jewelry, buying me gifts, paying for all the expenses during our travels, etc and he DID NOT demand sexual favors from me (we are both Catholics saving sex for marriage).

In short its the healthiest relationship I've ever been in and I'm glad I gave him the chance. And also he's told me he's been saving up for our marriage and visa like I'm so over the moon right now ahhhhhcckkkk hahahaha

My partner is six years younger than me. I never notice it, no one ever notices it, I don’t look significantly older than him or anything. He’s also the leader, the boss, the captain, whatever you want to call it, in our relationship

The only thing that ever worries me is wanting to be a mum, I’m still in my early 30s but I’m aware that there are risks and challenges attached to it. Hopefully everything will be okay

i’m don’t know if i necessarily believe the whole young guys = immature and older guys = mature because i think maturity doesn’t have much to do with age but with character.

I dated a guy 4 years my junior in my 20s. He had a good sense of humor, was especially creative, communicative, and caring. I didn't feel the age difference because he was much taller, we had much fun (it was quite therapeutic). Also, since he had more free time than I did he made a lot of effort for us to talk as much as possible. And the subjects we discussed varied drastically as well. So he was the one giving most of the attention and keeping the relationship running. However, there were times when he would bail (e.g. avoiding meeting my parents the first time, he basically lied and didn't show up). Or just do some silly stuff I couldn't accept (running away from his home, overstaying at my place, expecting me to pay for things, since "he's a guest", getting in arguments with people because they "owe him" and/or he's the victim...). When he'd get bored, I'd feel burdened to entertain him, as if it was my role, a secret expectation by him (dating itself seemed to be a way for him to waste time and not solve other life issues instead, e.g. getting rid of temporary jobs he hated). He was also addicted to computer games. I really loved him and he deeply cared about me (I doubt anybody ever did as much) but it wasn't meant to last. We both could have been more mature. He could have been more considerate, serious, responsible, and I could have been less of a nagging witch, greedy, unkind. Oh well.

So 2 years is barely a difference. It's more important in which life's cycle you're in (a high school student, a university student, a few years after studies, early thirties, etc.). Because each of these 'stages' pose different demands and have different outlooks.
