After being stuck on a guy for an embarrassingly long time and realizing that it was because he was physically out of my league and I couldn’t do better, I’ve decided to make sure to up my “league”.

However, I’m starting to question things a bit. Obviously we all love to believe that looks don’t matter (as in genetic, inherited features) but how true is this really? Can taking care of ones skin/hair, grooming, working out, waxing, dressing for one’s body etc really turn an ugly duckling into a swan? Do these changeable differences make all of the difference?

I guess what I’m really asking is: how important are genetics? Say that you were born with some undesirable features such as a huge nose or far-apart eyes or less-than-silky hair or a deep voice or man-hands etc. Maybe you’re naturally just not very symmetric. How far can self-improvement take you? Will you have to resort to surgery, chemicals or a cakes of makeup? Can you even call yourself “you” after that?
