Just thank him for not leading you on, and then you move on. It’s really hard not to take rejection badly but just be gracious and remember all the times you’ve been on the other side of that situation. I’m sure you’ve rejected a boy or two! I’m sorry you’re hurt though. :( It doesn’t feel good.

Just say "Thank you for letting me know." and move on.

In a world fo ghosting, it's actually stand-up of him to let you know, rather than just ghosting you and dragging it out for you.

I know you really liked him and it's hard not to feel like this was an opportunity that was snatched from right under your nose. But things happen for a reason. Just take this experience as something positive - be happy you had that one great date with another person, that you clicked so well with another person. Use that positive experience as a blue print for the positive qualities you look for in a man.

I’d just respond with “thank you for letting me know.” Then cut all contact. He chose her over you, and that’s fine, you aren’t entitled to him, but imo that choice stands.

You don’t have any history with this guy? So it should be easy to walk away from as long as you aren’t contacting him/online stalking/sitting around dwelling on it. If I’m wrong about that let me know, but at this point I would say just start looking into other guys and it will go away on it’s own.

Besides the obvious, what more could you have wanted from this situation? He was as straight up as it gets. He was upfront about rejection, he explained why so your point of view wasn't pining over some lost cause, and he explained his own point of view to retain respect. He did everything to ensure as minimal heartbreak on your part as he could, and all only after the first date. Closure can only ever from within, you need to accomplish that on your own.

There are some aspects of a connection that you can control and some you can't. Most of the uncontrollable aspects amount to incompatabilities; emotional, sexual, recreational, ambitions, etc. But what is so infinitely more important is geographic and temporal compatibility. If someone is not in the same vicinity at the same points in life willing to grow in the same ways, it's not going to last much. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter why it didn't work out, only that it didn't. So long as you are confident in how you dictated your 50% of the connection, then you must be satisfied with the outcome. Because if you are, then it wasn't something under your control anyway.

To get over it you just have to put it behind you. Let time pass. There's nothing special about him, not really. You didn't even know him that well, after one date you're barely even getting past your expectations of what you want him to be and not what he actually is. High value men are in abundance if you are skilled at your ability to find and filter for them. Go out and meet ten new men in the same amount of time it would take to hope in futile attempts that he'll come your way again. That is the true measure of fully getting over someone: having access to them and still declining.

Sorry you're hurting :(

I understand how disappointed you must be, especially after such a great first date. But it sounds like it has very little to do with you. He only met you once, and there was someone else before who he has built up in his mind over months. It's hard to compete with that when you've just met him.

It was good of him to let you know and not lead you on. If you're still single in the future and he is too, I would give it another shot. Because you liked him on the date, and his behaviour after the date was good too. Disappointing, but he didn't lead you on and he didn't ghost you. He did the hard thing, which was to be honest.

I would respond graciously and wish him the best... show him you're a quality person too. If you'd still be interested in seeing him in the future, leave the door open for maybe another date in the future too if you both end up single at the same time. (Not sure how to word this in text, sorry) But don't wait around for it, live your life.
