I'm going to try to make this as short as possible but I'm sorry if it still ends up being long!

First off, let me start by saying I'm a huge fan of you ladies and this sub! I got out of my first real relationship last year and I was a complete child throughout the whole thing. I caused fights over everything and eventually ruined the relationship, then followed it up by over sharing every detail of our break up on Facebook as it was happening. I was a bitter, immature, pouty beyotch.

You ladies have taught me so much. I've been working out, eating better, and overall focusing on being the one instead of finding the one. I haven't been in a real relationship since then but my entire view on them has changed completely.

Here is my problem: I started talking to a guy who posted to r4r looking for a platonic friendship. He's in the Navy and made himself a promise when he enlisted he won't engage in any sort of romantic relationship until he's out in 2016. He's "married to the Navy" and believes that if he truly cared about someone, he wouldn't put them through his lifestyle (deployments and all that). He hasn't even kissed anyone since joining. I don't agree with him, but I respect his decision. Anyways, we became good friends and then that developed into something more. We texted all day, skyped all night, discussed out expectations of ourselves and our partners in relationship, talked about our beliefs when it comes to raising children, etc.. He even said there isn't anything about me he doesn't like and as soon as he gets out, I'm his first stop. He's deploying in a couple weeks so we entertained the idea of a visit (but I had to promise I was OK with no kissing rule) before he pretty much cut all contact and ended everything. He said he made a promise to himself and everything we're doing is going against that promise. He apologized for using poor judgement and crossing a line just to take it all but then told me he'll call me when he gets out if I want but he's going no contact and he's not going to ask me to wait for him because that would be unfair.

I posted in /r/relationship and everyone either said move on and let it go or they questioned his integrity by saying he's being dishonest or he's married, which I know is not the case and honestly just pissed me off.

So my question is what do I do? I'm an extremely loyal person and would even feel guilty dating someone else over these next two years. Am I being stupid and should I just let it go? I'll be 25 when he gets out. Am I wasting my youth on someone who doesn't owe me anything and might not even want to be with me? He's not some neck beard loser who can't attract girls either-- he's intelligent, patient, handsome, fit, confident, and so much more. He's exactly the type of man I trust to lead me and my future family.

I trust your opinions more because I know you'll have a better understanding of him needing to keep his word and also a better understanding of my loyalty.

Thanks for reading. You all are amazing!

(Sorry if this is better suited for askredpill, that subs seems like it's geared more for men on RP theory)

Edit: Just so you're all aware, I'm leaning towards spending the next two years bettering myself. No dating. Just working out and working two jobs to save as much money as I can. That way, if he comes around, great! I can say I waited and I'll be happy knowing I didn't date around and if he doesn't show up, I'll at least be a better person for the next guy.
