I had to pull back from planning the dates. Prior to the skills, I used to plan ALL our date nights and travel and I’m pretty certain he thought that was controlling because it seemed if he didn’t like the hotel or the food that he blamed me. After the skills, I allowed him to plan almost everything but add in a few “I would love to go to Hawaii” or “I would love to go to this new restaurant “, etc.

I’ve always thought the person who cares more should plan. I’m fairly picky about the places I like to go out - I’m a fan of certain neighborhoods, don’t like anything too bright or noisy, and usually looking for a specific vibe. If I’m with a guy who doesn’t care, then it makes sense for me to plan so we both have a good time.

My boyfriend and I had a good discussion about this recently actually. Long story short, as long as the man still has space and grace to plan things on his own (i.e., she’s not always critiquing his choices and is gracious and agreeable when he plans things), there’s nothing wrong with the woman planning dates. Especially if he works a demanding job - taking care of the details of a date can be every bit as feminine and loving as cooking him dinner or packing his lunch.

In the early to mid dating stage, planning a date can also be a great way to showcase incremental reciprocity by demonstrating your level of investment in the relationship. Also, he’s going on dates with you because he enjoys spending time with and getting to know you, so you can use the dates you plan to show him a side of you he may not have seen.

If there are particular things you’re really into, it can also be a great way to gauge compatibility in those areas. For example, if you’re an avid hiker, taking him to your favorite spot could be a great way to see if it’s something the two of you can do together!

Also, just have fun with it! If you’re super excited or enthusiastic about a plan and you share that with him, chances are he’ll be willing to do it just to see you happy 😊

I think men should plan the first dates usually, but in an LTR it should depend who has more specific preferences. No one likes to plan a date then have their partner complain about everything along the way, makes people never want to play a date again.

A man doing all the logistical work is an eventual path to boredom, or worse, contempt and boredom. A woman suggesting what she actually wants to do absolves men of having to agonize over trying to plan the perfect idea of a plan and fretting picking something that makes or breaks the date.

Also, the most excited women always remove the legwork for the guy, it shows priority and desire.

Splitting the workload of making plans is going to release pressure in a relationship, not add to it
