Ayn Rand and Objectivism

I must say, I'm disappointed with what I'm reading in the comments. Not that I'm particularly impressed with the OP either. I question whether some of you have actually read into objectivist theory.

To hit a few points in the OP:

Your second paragraph is a mis-understanding at best. Nowhere in my readings of Ayn Rand's work does she suggest any form of technological regression. She was actually a fan of technology, seeing it as the ever reaching pinnacle of mankind's achievements. Your second paragraph is arguably hardcore anarchism.
You attest she was near unicorn status, which is ludicrous of several accounts in context of red pill theory. First, there are no unicorns (I appreciate that you said 'If there ever was...' but this needs to be said). Second, she met no criteria I can think of that RP theory has for women: she was unattractive, harsh, hypocritical, and desired to be a man. In short, AWALT.

To address some points in the comments:

Yes, Ayn Rand was a horribly flawed person. She was a hypocrite. She took as much as she could get her hands on later in life. Are we surprised? AWALT, and so are most men.
Your arguments (if some of them can be called that - please refrain from lowering yourselves to ad hominem, straw men, and arguments of their ilk) are largely against the woman, and do not address the theory. If we are to have a discussion of any socio-economic theory, it should remain discussion of theory, and not the person or people behind it. That said, the OP did bring the author specifically into the discussion, so I do not object to criticism, so long as it is kept separate from criticism of the theory.

I believe it does discredit to our microcosm to refuse to discuss a socio-economic theory simply because the author was flawed. All people are flawed. All socio-economic theories (Objectivism, Capitolism, Marxism, Red Pill, Anarchism, etc) are flawed. Inherently, no theory (in this realm), no matter how sound on paper, will be without exception, as this realm deals with people. Unfortunately, while people en masse can be predicted to a degree, outliers often define our history far more often than the group. Additionally, the diversity of human nature makes it inherently difficult to account for how people will behave over time, as irrational behavior is inherently difficult to model for.

That all said, to dismiss any theory out of hand is a failure. We limit ourselves to our own detriment. Assess the theory, and determine if any portion of it can bring value to your life. The core precept of objectivism is that a man should strive to be the best he can be at what he does. That strikes me as relevant to RP discussion, regardless of the failings of the author.

Ayn Rand was a selfish spiteful hack and a hypocrite, she decried against government benefits and welfare but happily claimed welfare, and medicare benefits when she wanted them.

Rand believed that the scientific consensus on the dangers of tobacco was a hoax. Smoked 2 packs a day then got lung cancer and had to rely on government benefits. (so much for personal responsibility.)

Rand is the philosophy of the Tea Party movement and nut jobs like Glenn Beck, whatever good you find in her beliefs please take them with a pinch of salt Objectivism is the sort of thing you get into when your an agsty teenager as its edgy and against society then when you get older look back and realise what a load of bullshit it is.

Right-wing think tanks can have Rand (even if she had little use for them). In the academy, she is a nonperson. Her theories are works of fiction. Her works of fiction are theories, and bad ones at that.

EDIT: New Yorkers "Ayn Rand Reviews Children's Movies" pretty much sums her beliefs up.

Ironically, you are writing this using the internet which is possibly the biggest monument for government funded research and infrastructure there is.

Feel free to move to Sudan or any other lawless shithole where you are "free" from the tyranny of organized society, taxes and their peripheral benefits.

Ayn Rand was a hypocrite, a racist, a hater of poor people, and just generally a bad person. Her philosophies don't stand up to intellectual scrutiny, and if you feel like there is ANY benefit to civilized society (you know like, the internet, TV, electricity, not having to shit in a hole in the ground, AC, etc.) then you have to reject her basic premise. Unless you are comfortable living straight outta Hobbes' Leviathan, you aren't a Randian.

First of all, your second sentence reads "Ayn Rand was a brilliant woman and clearly far ahead of her time." This is the red pill, we don't praise women here.

Second, don't start talking about a person, instead start talking about their ideas, that gives them an objective perspective relieved of feelings and insecurities.

This post could've been far better had you succinctly expressed Rand's Red Pill Ideas.
