Summary

A central concept of our journey on this thread is building and maintaining self-control. Self-control, like anything in life, is learned through constant repetition.

Body

A case of onitis brought me to this sub. No contact was central to my mission of curing it. No contact is an ultimitate test of self-control for a fragile boy with a case of onitis. Just like quitting smoking, quitting cold-turkey leads to severe withdrawal symptoms and high chances of relapse.

Contacting a onitis is irrational, as we all know. What helped me stay no contact was denying myself other "irrational pleasures" in my life. This included anything from marathoning a Netflix series to looking at a piece of cake and wanting to eat it just as bad as I wanted to text that girl.

Every time an irrational pleasure revealed itself, I told myself, "If you can't say no to this, how can you say no to the more attractive things in life?"

Lessons learned

By constant repetition of denying myself the useless pleasures in my life I have built a thicker skin for dealing with other seemingly undenyable pleasures. (Such as lustful thinking and in-the-moment decisions.)

It is harder to climb a mountain without conquering a few hills first.
