Once again, it is demonstrated that the only people who are able preach our gospel are stand-up comics.

Yeah that was definitely his defining quality as an author. They put his books in the "Gay" section in bookstores

[–]hojoohojoo 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He was so gay they put him in jail. Get over it.

[–]Dyg22 31 points32 points33 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What has his sexuality got to do with anything?

“Reg D Hunter is my favourite comedian to hold a microphone in his left hand"

Well there's a non-gay version of him as well you see, we like to be succinct in our distinctions around here.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL.

No one takes comedians seriously, so they are free to say whatever they want. That's why they can express such unpopular ideas: they sell it as entertainment.

[–]Gyaltso 32 points33 points34 points 12 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link

No one takes comedians seriously?

I bet it's less about them getting "a pass" due to their profession, and more about their professional ability as a comedian to get an audience to understand and relate to them in a way that any truth is hilarious when put into such a brilliant performance.

[–]TRP VanguardHumanSockPuppet 41 points42 points43 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I think of comedians as modern-day court jesters. They uniquely have the freedom to insult the king, but only because no one has to listen to them.

It gives them the freedom to say things that would otherwise disrupt the collaborative illusion of safety and fairness that is our society if spoken by someone in real power.

[–]hojoohojoo 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Tell that to Andrew Dice Clay. The Cathedral crushed him when he got too popular.

[–]TRP Vanguard: "Dark Triad Expert"IllimitableMan 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You've read 48 laws of power I see. Rather be the jester than the king any day. Waaaaaaay more freedom and way less responsibility.

[+]Gyaltso -7 points-6 points-5 points 12 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

except comedians exist professionally because people want to listen to them. thats the big difference.

I also think, that for that reason they have much more influence and power than you seem to suspect.

[–]TRP VanguardHumanSockPuppet 19 points20 points21 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I never said people didn't want to listen to jesters. I simply said that people didn't have to listen to them. Jesters wielded no formal authority.

Neither do comedians.

And yet both jesters and comedians provide a valuable function to our society. Entertaining us, and making us think.

[+]Gyaltso -19 points-18 points-17 points 12 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

making us think seriously.

[–]EducatedCavemen 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But you have to admit that the Title of the profession has a heavy connotation that influences people to behave in such a way. Comedian = Funny/Laughs versus lets say, a Politician who has a job to be taken more seriously. If you hear a politician say this, can you imagine the shit storm the media will pull out of its ass? But lets say another comedian said this and he didn't have the "professional ability to get an audience to understand and relate to them in a way that any truth is hilarious when it can be put in such a brilliant and charming performance." They would talk shit about him for a day or two but at the end he will be seen just as a shitty comedian, "On other news! Senator Blahblahblah is a fucking sexist, misogynistic, racist, puppy killing piece of shit!".

[–]imgoingstag 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Comedians are inception masters.

I must say, you are the best troll I have seen on this subreddit so far. I hope you don't get banned for it, just because it's a little amusing to watch.

[–]HitlersCow -2 points-1 points0 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

TRP doesn't care if you're gay.

While it is most certainly a troll (and a damn good one!), it might not be.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

the other day there was a discussion about it in /r/mma because some Brazilian fighter called Anthony Pettis a faggot in some video of him and his friends partying... some fuckers wanted this guy's head roll even though he's one of the p4p's... they wanted the UFC to somehow PUNISH him. What many people from English speaking countries don't understand is just how differently this word is being used in other parts of the world. What I understand by "faggot" in this context is "woosy" or "coward", and it has nothing to do with taking it up the butt.

[–]Sufferix 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think most normative people in the US believe it to be the South Park definition. An obnoxious ass person. All the non-normative people, want to be victims and believe that anyone cares about purposefully offending them.

[–]watersign 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

its important to use this word to keep people in line. if one of your boys is acting like a faggot you need to tell them

I haven't even finished watching and I'm super-impressed by this guy.

"...the reason it seemed like that, is because instead of listening to me with your hearing and your intellect, you're listening to me with your feelings."

Also, "social cuckolding" is a phenomenon I see all the time and I'm glad there's actually a term for it. This episode of The Boondocks that was discussed yesterday is a perfect example:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWr6iGt24pk

[–]Hatorader 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Can someone write a thread on what to do when your girlfriend "socially cuckolds" you? My girlfriend has done it to me a couple times and I didn't know what do besides get pissed and tell her to not do that shit anymore.

[–]WhiteE350 18 points19 points20 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Give her cab money and leave. Thats what I did last time I had a girl dragging me around a nightclub chatting it up with all her guy friends. Actions do speak louder than words. I would rather walk out of a club alone with my head held high than walk out after the girl I came with blew me off and flirted with every guy in the place.

[–]GhostInTheRedPill 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Either that or start approaching hotter girls in the venue. Watch her run back to your side and provide you with even more social proof.

[–]WhiteE350 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It was a cockfest and she was one of the hottest girls there. It was my fault for letting her drag my ass to a crappy club where I was getting those, I fucked her types of looks. I lasted about 20min. The straw that broke the camels back was when she went in to a vip section and the guy at the table gave me shit. The girl was really pissing me off all night being late and just weird I found out she was doing a bunch of blow and mooching off the guys at the club. Fuck it. Throw her in the gutter and go get another.

[–]GhostInTheRedPill 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That does seem like a solid 'next' case. Girls and blow don't mix at all well.

[–]ayjayred 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

what was the last word he said? I replayed and replayed, and couldn't understand.

[–]christiefrontdrive 13 points14 points15 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Faggotry.

[–]ayjayred 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

thanks.

[–]Kronos6948 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Social cuckoldry has been going on in the states for ages as well. Hell, back in the 80's when hair bands were a thing, girls would have access to the band's tour bus, and their boyfriends would wait outside while the girls "got autographs" - which was basically them getting fucked in the bus.

[–]trenchgun 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Except that your example is not social cuckolding, thats just cuckolding. Social cuckolding is when girl is flirting with other guys while his boyfriend is around.

[–]Kronos6948 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Doesn't mean that social cuckolding wasn't a thing. If you think women over here in the states don't flirt with people of fame in front of their boyfriends, you're mistaken. Hell, how many times have we heard the whole "list of famous people it's ok to bang if I'm married" game that people play?

[–]trenchgun 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I was not disagreeing about social cuckolding existing, just that your example was of real cuckolding, not social.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

BAM!

[–]randomdude600 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A good comedian must be part philosopher and part entertainer. Beyond slapstick humor the only way to keep an audiences attention is through creating tension, without a good understanding of societies philosophical undercurrents they wouldn't be able to keep people involved with their act

[–]christiefrontdrive 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

BOOM! He fucking nailed it.

[–]SweetiePieJonas 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]TheToeSnail 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He goes on a lot of British panel shows. He's basically an American living in Britain, turned comedian.

[–]Luckyluke23 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
