I'm not trying to be an asshole but since you and your dad sat there and took it, he wasn't wrong. Use this experience to improve yourself. Your drunk loser uncle means nothing. He is most likely a soft piece of shit and only has the nuts to take it out on you and your dad because he knows he will get away with it.

Yea bro you entered his reality. Had you been stronger mentally you could have maintained your frame. Lifting and boxing isn't enough to overcome a weak mentality/frame/vision. Of course you are also 19 and he is 55 and full of liquid courage. Some will say this is BS but... Mental lifting and boxing is required to create a strong vision of yourself. Whether it is visualization, meditation, hypnosis or whatever you find, mental strength come in many ways. There are many tools to use.

I have seen some here say NO! You just do it, Just LIFT!

But I say use whatever you need to get there.

You need a calibrated response. Make strong eye contact and tell him he's being disrespectful to you and your father. If he backs down tell him never to do it again. If not tell him to leave. If he doesn't leave reach behind him grab his arms and drag him away. If he fights back knock him out/subdue him and then drag him away. If anyone gives you shit say you were defending your fathers honor

You did the right thing imo, he's 55 and you only 19, this mean your physical force and speed are way stronger than his, in other words you can easily kick his ass (even if maybe he don't know it yet).

Then, he was also drunk, this put him on an even bigger disvantage (no reflexes and balance).

Kicking him would have been a coward act, it would have been like kick a defenseless child, in this situation he was the sick and lower one, not you.

You maintained your frame by not getting into his frame (kicking his ass) and so far you made the right thing.

I would avoid to meet him again anyway, you don't need that shit in your life.

Family relationship is a double-edge sword, so retaliate. If it cuts deep into you, it'll also do damage to others but you can't worry about because it doesn't help you grow from that angle.

And even if our circumstances are different, I know where you are coming from.

My Uncle is also Alpha as fuck despite growing in a family with 2 older sisters. When I was young, he lives out of country I don't run into him often but when I do, I recall him bringing a different girl every time. He's 50 this year, still unwilling to marry, but is in upper management in a pretty big corporate company. I only learned much later that he once received 6 promotions in 6 years, dated 9s & 10s, and despite only graduating with a HS degree, he also speaks 5 languages and is a semi-pro scubba-diver. He's the nicer kinda of Alpha, never loses control of the situations, berates people albeit with factual statements, an objective, while never crossing the line. With every new invite or new talk, I know I am growing because I can tell when he is reserved with people he sees "as set as a stone".

But my dad, is on another whole level of respectable-assholery. The 1 sentence background is that my parents separated because my dad wanted to pursue his dream and when my mom threatened with divorce, he said "ok" and left it as that.

My mom is still not dating today.

He tried to belittle me in front some dozen of his friends when I visited him couple years back. I joked to play it off, amplified and agreed but none worked and it wasn't stopping (because he was more successful than I was at the same age). So I called him out for being an invisible father trying to make up lost time, told him that I thank him for teaching me the opposite as my grandpa would (He was a beta), but fuck off because it's his own problem he thought his dad was useless, I didn't. I travelled 1000 miles away to see his ass out of respect so don't be a dumb fuck trying to cram 20 years of lesson in 20 minutes.

The sound of acquiescence the came after was Just. Perfect. All of them "Uncles" kept their straight faces but you could clearly tell some of just went "Damn."; while others sipped teas or nodded in silence.

He took me to one of those hostess club that night. You can't make this stuff up.

Last year I did something that pissed him off, and I was sick of his shit response so I called went all in his bluff, accepting not to contact him for another 3 years with a laugh and a caveat that "I'll be waiting for your apology".

To me, the whole thing is serious yet hilarious because I know how he is, how he ticks and am not hurt by his attempts; just fucking annoyed at him poking at my frame 24/7. It's not about the rest but there's no break to build understanding. If you've done any rock climbing, you'd know the talk at the top of the cliff is the best. So his message was pretty clear in that I haven't arrived at that spot.

His friends still calls me to chat or ask for help from to time. And I know all is fine for despite not talking, we still exchange holiday greetings directly or words via family members.

Next year will be the year of re-union. I can't wait.

As for OP, don't think about winning him or his approval over but rather, he's somebody rare in your life that'll push you past a whole new level of boundaries. Treat this like a duel and regardless of success, you'll find yourself enjoying that relationship much more.

Of course unless, he's just a fucking retard with no merits.
