I looked through their website. This is actually a really interesting find. Even found a number of articles on there about the "rape overcorrection" and kangaroo courts. Reminds me a little of the ACLU, but with a more pure Libertarian slant (i.e. not "civil libertarians").

Who the hell started giving higher institutions the type of conditional funding which turned them into a pseudo-judiciary, and enforcement bodies? This is no different then having Dunking Donuts enforce a policy of socio-sexual compliance on you. It makes no sense. Rape? Blackmail? Murder? There are actual existing democratic institutions in place already to deal with this.

I have worked with FIRE before in college. Their executive director, Robert Shibley, is a badass who goes around bringing legal thunder onto any college out of line. Chapel Hill went from "free speech zones only" to free speech paradise in only a few years thanks to them. While based on the east coast, they'll help anyone take on a school who needs it.

Every dollar to FIRE goes to a group of motivated people who just want to make colleges great again.

I'm glad something like this exists. While I am certain that my country doesn't have an equivalent, someone with the legal clout such as them ought to remind my old university what academic freedom is, and that it is not Academic Freedom™.

I found this excerpt on their website:

If harassing conduct is sufficiently serious (sufficiently severe or pervasive) to deny or limit a student’s ability to participate in or benefit from the school’s program based on sex then a hostile environment based on sex may exist.

"Sufficiently serious" is the operative term. This is especially important in a college culture where simply going up to a girl and asking for her phone number could be construed as "harassment."

Asking for a phone number or a date or showing you are interested in a woman sexually is not limiting anyone's ability to participate in the school's programs.
