This was just too beautiful for me to contain. :')

[–]MrWoofles 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This..... This makes me happy.

[–]Axotl 55 points56 points57 points 11 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

He's also former military and played a role in averting war. Received a direct order as troop commander to attack a Russian occupying force in Kosovo and disobeyed it.

[–]HerculestheRed 28 points29 points30 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Chain of command in the field is to prevent confusion in the event the commander goes down. Nobody is running around directionless when Dead #1's #2 starts barking orders. Though on principle, I don't advocate disobeying orders in general, sometimes the end justifies the means in this case. He was able to see the likely outcome and bet his chips on getting his own ass chewed rather than escalate to prevent lots of unnecessary death. Put his men and others before himself and his orders.

That kind of thinking makes him a bad soldier but a hell of a leader of men.

[–]TakeYourSoma1 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Yeah he basically told Wesley Clark to fuck off, perhaps poor soldiering but great leadership and judgment, which is arguably more commendable.

[–]HerculestheRed 17 points18 points19 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Arguably? No.

If the military disappeared tomorrow, men would still be able to be good as a whole without the military.

If men disappeared tomorrow, the military would not be as good as a whole without men.

The difference is night and day. Yes, if your job is to be a soldier, be the best damn soldier you can be. However, in the grander scheme it is better to be a nation of good men than good drones.

I agree with you, and I don't think anyone would say it's better to be mindless, senseless, and ball-less. Even the best soldiers have enough autonomy to know when to pull the trigger.

[–]wickedstag 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The point is. He didn't pull the trigger. He was given a direct order from a higher ranking officer (albeit from another, allied, army) to engage with Russian troops. He refused because it would likely escalate tensions between Russia and the West. In hindsight, I'm pretty sure everyone agrees that his choice was the right thing to do.

[–]HerculestheRed 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The point is. He didn't pull the trigger. He was given a direct order from a higher ranking officer (albeit from another, allied, army) to engage with Russian troops. He refused because it would likely escalate tensions between Russia and the West.

That's what I was saying in my first comment.

In hindsight, I'm pretty sure everyone agrees that his choice was the right thing to do.

That's what I said in the second. We agree on all accounts. Definitely the kind of thinking skills more men need in the heat of the moment.

[–]ZeroOn 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I heard somewhere that apparently German soldiers are explicitly told to disobey orders if they themselves consider it inhumane/etc.

[–]stickfiguresk 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It makes him a great soldier. At least in the US, there's no, "but command told me to" defense. That's in the handbook they give you right when you enter basic--everyone down the line of command can go to jail for a grunt pulling the trigger.

[–]HerculestheRed 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree. Me and a few buddies of mine who are still in the military laugh at the people who think they're mindless murders. That's essentially what I was disputing. It makes him a bad soldier in the stereotypically mindless "do what I say without question." I also said it makes him a great leader of men, which is something that was pressured in from the very beginning I even heard the word "Military Officer."

[–]mclorie 138 points139 points140 points 11 years ago (24 children) | Copy Link

James Blunt has told stories about banging multiple women at the same time, has a brilliant Twitter account where he weathers insults about his girly voice, laughs it off, insults back with greater wit or plays up these traits. He talks about his military career with frankness, honesty and writes songs highlighting the unspoken, brutal side of war, without resorting to making himself sound like some hero or PTSD stricken victim.

His music is not a reflection of his life. He's a good lad.

Also he grew up where I live and work. And a friend of mine has fucked his sister.

[–]ErythraeusAlias 63 points64 points65 points 11 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

He's said numerous times how he thinks "You're Beautiful" is basically a bullshit song.

[–]Jabroni12345 32 points33 points34 points 11 years ago* (14 children) | Copy Link

Huh. Kinda reminds me of John Mayer, who is a badass blues guitar player...but no one would know his name if he didn't sing that "wonderland" song.

[–]Kyuzo_ 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The interview he did for playboy is pure gold, with a bit of serious RP truth thrown in there

[–]theofficeisreal 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Absolutely. This.. was what I was hoping to write but you have already written it.

[–]aslan4 13 points14 points15 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I can't stress that enough. But when ppl tell me that John Mayer is/was just another pop artist I tell them to go listem to John Mayer Trio (or any live performance, or Continuum)

[–]Epicureanist 11 points12 points13 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I'm not sure how Mayer gets the pop artist label, when he's a great musician and guitar. I've played guitar for 7 years and his playing is awesome. Where the Light Is" is one of the few albums where I like every song.

[–]wahday 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I mean, his debut album was straight up pop.. and has sold nearly 4.5 million copies. I like his blues stuff more as well but I don't think there's any mystery as to why he gets the pop artist label.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Room_for_Squares

[–]Jabroni12345 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I don't blame him/his agent/representation for marketing him that way.

Very few would've heard of him if he just was a blues guy. As it is, he's got millions rolling in from his "pop" work and a lot more people have and will check out his current stuff.

And yeah, he can fucking rip it. Not a lot of musicians get invited by Clapton to play at his Crossroads festivals. Incredible musician.

I also heard that Katy Perry was an alternative-ish musician starting out, but made the discussion to go the pop route b/c there was just soooo much more money and such a bigger market. Can't blame her.

[–]lakingscrzy 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Katy Perry was a Christian artist.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Such an epic album. Amazing how good he sounds live.

[–]the10thrider 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

John Mayer Trio

For the life of me did I ever think someone on TRP would ever mention John Mayer Trio. Great performances all around. He's grown a lot since the pop-rock days (although some of his live performances of early work is great).

[–]through_a_ways 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

John Mayer seems like he'd be pretty RP.

[–]theofficeisreal 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep and if you haven't, /u/Kyuzo_ mentioned above, do check out his Playboy interview.

[–]ManiyaNights 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah he's a damn good rock/blues player.

[–]red1392 15 points16 points17 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I think he hates it because the song was overplayed to shit, and also sort of commonly misinterpreted in it's meaning. Everyone seemed to take it as a guy putting up a random girl on the ultimate pedestal and worshiping her for her beauty when really he was only thinking that way because he was 'fucking high' out of his mind. The 'fucking high' was replaced with 'flying high' in the radio versions, which completely changed the meaning of the song.

[–]the10thrider 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep, I listen to Blunt's music and nobody believes me when I tell them what the song is supposed to mean. Especially the version where he very explicitly says "fucking high".

[–]RedPillShitlord 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I've started to notice this stuff more. I have my Pandora on Patrice O'neil . They were playing a Chris Rock skit . The one where he says he'd never hit a woman but he'd shake the shit out of her. They cut the clip after a few I'd never ever ever hit a woman's making it sound like a lecture and basically changing the meaning of the bit.

[–]ManiyaNights 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I've listened to all 100+ Patrice appearances on O&A on youtube. He was born red pill, a true master of psychology.

[–]RedPillShitlord 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Case of unclear language on my past . Pandora not Patrice was guilty of censorship in this case. Sorry for the confusion

Absolutely! As someone who grew up under the ruling of a dictator, his song No Bravery makes me cry every time I hear it. It's a combination of anger, sadness, and just plain helpfulness.

This dude is the shit. Love his music (obviously I know the messages are blue pill so dont be a hipster douchebag), and glad to see he knows whats up about kicking chicks to the curb.

Seems like an awesome dude.

Hate to break it to you guys, but it's satirical: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/showbiz/news/a608321/james-blunt-defends-agony-uncle-column-its-a-satirical-article.html#~oVhvyk9pt42djq

I guess they call him Blunt for a reason.

[–]kkallstrom 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

His comebacks are great on twitter when people insult him. anyone in the UK - he writes in the metro this dating advice not uncommonly...it always cheers up my day seeing it!

[–]Long_dan 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You guys are pitiful. He is goofing on you and you bought it.

[–]Kellermann 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You're pitiful...it's true

Doesn't add value, removed.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That column is supposed to be satirical. He's mocking that mentality. I mean, it should be obvious that women are entitled to partners who sit quietly on their thumbs when the sex stops.

He's not telling him to dump her because she might be cheating on him. He's telling him to dump her because he has a girlfriend who won't satisfy him sexually.

[–]iopq 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Being a lousy lover doesn't preclude you from having sex. If his girlfriend doesn't want to have sex with him because he's a lousy lover he's perfectly within his rights to dump her in order to have lousy sex every day with other women.

Can't believe a post about James Blunt's tweets gets 300 upvotes on TRP. It's not useful to anyone. /u/redpillschool - you've set a policy, please enforce it before this sub goes to shit.

Click report on low quality posts.

[–]we_r_legun1993 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's pretty cool. I know nothing about this guy except that he sang that gay "You're Beautiful" song from a few years back. Guess he's an okay dude.

[–]TheRealMouseRat 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It is from the column "To be blunt.." so I assume that saying things extremely directly is sort of a gimmick.

[–]foldpak111 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The funniest part is that he actually believes she's not cheating. Women need sex.

[–]crayzar 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]1Zackcid 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Figures. I've always heard the radio-censored version, so I wouldn't know better.

High jacking this thread to ask a semi-related question. Is SJW a term used outside of the manosphere? I just heard joe rogan use it on his podcast tonight lol.

[+]BedHeadd -32 points-31 points-30 points 11 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

James Blunt is anything but red pill. His entire discography is dedicated to pining after women and putting their pussy's on a pedestal.

[–]qwerty622 45 points46 points47 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

his entire discography.

yes. as in, he knows what sells, he knows what image to project and he knows how to do it well. doesn't necessarily mean he's like that in real life.

even if he was blue pill at one point, his fame and the torrential downpour of pussy afterwards may have quickly corrected his viewpoint.

[–]Manuel_S 28 points29 points30 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This.

Very simple rule: follow the money.

Take your pick:

a - sing what you want, sell 3 cds, 2 of which to your mum.

b - sing what will sell, make a bundle, then enjoy the perks of being a fucking star

Red pill says look at women according to what they do, not say. How is society any different?

Society says to be yourself, to play by the rules, to be true to your creative vision and all that shit - a lot of it contradictory.

It tells you that social work and caring for others is valuable, but that kind of work isn't paid, you must offer it (except: make a charity, rake it in, offer yourself a fat check). Its entertainers and bankers who rake it in.

The single question is, what do those fuckers buy? That is what you want to be selling.

[–]New_Horiz0ns 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

On this principle I want to start a feminist magazine where I do no work and just promote tumblerinna's posts. And then promote some dumb fashion look. & do pictures with harassers section & relationship advice where all the advice is communication and counseling & finally what your man should do for you - clean your bathroom and drive you around to alpha's house.

[–]Chuckit_ 16 points17 points18 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's his product. In reality he's swimming through a torrent of cunt.

[–]fatalcharm 7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I honestly think that he writes those songs because he knows that they will get him laid.

"Sit on my dick, bitch" doesn't have the same appeal to women as "You're beautiful"

[–]HahahahaWaitWhat 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, not the same appeal but an appeal nonetheless!

[–]ShinyBrah7 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

He knows what sells. Women are the main group that actually buys music anymore, you have to target them.

[–]pachan 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

he writes (or pays others to do it) some romantic bullshit, gets paid a shit ton of money for it, then goes and fucks plenty of attractive women without having to put any effort into it as hes famous. yeah, no, totally not RP.

[–]loin_fruit 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Its just like Emma Watson saying that feminist bullshit about how all women shouldn't be dating the typical asshole. And yet look who she left her nerdy boyfriend for. A frat star jock looking bro who is probably an "asshole".

She said that shit to get attention. Good attention. Just like artists sing the shit they sing. Its all because they know what sells.
