How courteous were women compared to men on a daily basis when it came to just simply holding doors? The results were pathetic, overwhelmingly women just didn't do it.

My observations

Women do notice good manners and men who behave in a formal/gentlemanly fashion. But they tend to notice everything around them ( I don't think it makes them any smarter, I think they simply process only the aspects that impact them/benefit them, but they are always watching)
I believe women will only assign value to that behavior if they assign value to the man doing it. I.E. if Channing Tatum did it, he's such a sweetheart. If a regular did it, then that motherfucker should have done it because any other choice would be to be rude
Women are likely so used to preferential treatment that its the new baseline for them. I.E. if most women were treated as most men were treated, I think they'd mentally break down and freak out if it happened long enough. In doing so, I think most women do take it for granted. I've noticed outside the "western world", appreciate for good manners is higher.
I believe good manners are a good litmus test for "Frame". If being a gentleman is what you want to be, then do it. Fuck what anyone else thinks about it, do it. Do it without any thought of reward or acknowledgement, do it because you think it's the right thing to do and it's how you want to be. Do it as if it's 2nd nature to you, as if it occurs without thought or processing, you instinctively behave as a gentleman, not for them, but to respect yourself. I.E. to behave less than your own standard of conduct is beneath you.

Here is one universal truth I've learned for all combat veterans I've known. It's the core belief that every man should have a CODE and abide by that CODE absolutely, even if it costs you to do it. Whatever that code is, it is a defining part of you, it is an outline of your character as a person.

There are also guys who are rude as fuck and I think it's pretty sad. I try not to judge too hard for other people, esp when its not dealing with me, but I've seen guys who can't even muster a basic Thank You.

Here's my view on basic "Thank You" principles. Think of anyone who ever made it a point to help you in your life. A parent, a sibling, a sports coach, a teacher, a friend. Someone who invested time and effort in you when they could have chosen something else. Who did it to help you be the best version of you that you could be. When you can't even muster a simple Thank You in a situation where it's basic civil and social convention, then you are saying not just that you are a piece of trash, but all those other people are trash to, for thinking and acting as if you were worth more than dirt.

When I used to go to church, I'd see some regulars who were unfortunately poor. But they showed up wearing the best they had, as clean as they could, and held themselves with honor. They treated people well and expected to be treated as a civil human being. I noticed that a lot, I noticed that it was not the condition of their status or wealth that mattered, but how they carried themselves in any circumstance.

1) Honor yourself, hold to your CODE, whatever you choose that to be

2) Expect nothing from women, it's simply easier to be pleasantly surprised one time out of 50 billion than to constantly manage disappointment.

3) Any woman who takes things for granted will always reveal clues that show that's her character. You just have to watch. Anyone who takes your good manners for granted is cueing you that she's just that kind of worthless piece of dirt.

Yeah, I've had about 1,000 similar experiences.

The worst moments of disrespect I've ever had in my life were from women. It's partly because they know a semi-decent guy won't knock them out.

Here's a little one, not the worst by any means, but it comes to mind now. I walk to a bar and grill 1 block from my house. I go there once or twice a month. So, I know people usually.

It's pretty empty. I walk in by myself.

There are 3 girls across the bar, one of which is the daughter of my dad's friend (my dad actually got this guy the job he retired from).

I order a beer and our gazes don't meet and she makes no effort, so I don't walk over. The other 2 girls seemed drunk and annoying.

Here I am in a place where I usually have social proof but had none. Probably viewed as some guy with no friends.

I put $10 in the jukebox and play some songs.

One of the chicks starts loudly berating me for my song choices with the biggest bitch face and demeanor. The other is laughing and egging her on. This wasn't a jokie thing. I can't remember exactly what was said, but they were definitely trying to be provoking assholes shitting on me.

I then turn to the girl I know and say calmly "Nice friends, Jaime".

The look on their faces was one of collective disbelief and embarrassment. They all came over several times and apologized.

Now all of a sudden that behavior is bad? Maybe I could've pulled, but I was just nodding ok and eating my chicken wings on a Tuesday night.

The worst type I constantly see is bitches slide in JUST before the door closes, so they don't have to open it for the next person.

They think they are in some matrix shit and being slick.

I'm sure pushing the door open would strain your tricep, sweet heart.

I would say I experience most of the time women will hold the door if they notice me behind them, even if I don't have my hands full.

I have experienced both men and women not holding the door for me either.

I used to hold the door open for women and then let them walk in before me, I no longer do that anymore. Only time I will do that is for either men or women, when they have their hands full. More of a well mannered thing then trying to gain approval or get attention.

When I'm on the train I observe how many empowered feminists or liberal types get up and give their seat for: elderly, pregnant, sick, disabled. And guess what. It's almost never. Usually it's some white knight mangina that didn't get the memo on equality.

I've also noticed this phenomenon. I will hold the door open, for men if they're standing right behind me. I also occasionally hold the door open for women IF they are holding something. None of that white knight shit where they see a pretty girl 10 yards behind them and stand there looking like a fool with the door open for seconds before the girl even gets there. Shit drives me insane

Funny, the other day I was coming out a shop and could see a man approaching the door with some heavy parcels (he was clearly making some sort of delivery). I could tell he was shifting them over to one arm so as to have a hand free to open the door, so I said, "Here, let me hold it for you," and he gave me a surprised look. Which I thought was weird at the time -- I assumed he would have expected me to hold the door for him -- but in light of this post, hmm maybe not.

Besides being little shits by nature, women also have a legit reason to be discourteous in all those situations. If she holds that door, she KNOWS you're going to try to strike up a convo & make a pass at her.

If she acknowledges you exist in any way, you're fairly justified as the male to assume she wants to fuck you.

Most people where I live hold doors open for each other, but that might just be a regional Minnesota nice thing. It surprises me to hear that your experience is that different considering we are in the same region. It's pretty uncommon here for people to snub me like that, man or woman.

This might be only slightly related, I'm working a shit retail job to help put myself through college. It's something I have many years of experience doing now.

One thing I have noticed in all those years is that men are far less likely to call in sick to work. For better or worse they will suck it up and not let their coworkers down.

That's not to say it never happens of course, but overall this has been my anecdotal experience.

Management is also far less tolerant of men calling in sick, as a general rule (again, anecdotal). We are pressured to show up regardless. I think it is a subconcious bias, we just get less slack on that front.

I've had women hold the door open for me plenty of times. I live in Florida and honestly it isn't that bad. There's all kinds of people here and all kinds of behavior.
