This can be summed up nicely with another piece of advice.

Never Marry!

[–]Cyhawk 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Another good point is to never marry a woman who loves their daddy TOO much. You'll almost never live up to their expectations.

[–]TRP Vanguardss_camaro 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Often overlooked in these kinds of discussions. The 'nobody's as good as doting daddy' phenomenon -- with daddy playing alpha orbiter, save-a-hoe -- is pure poison in many so-called 'good' families. If you are a doting, white-knight father, you are a piece of shit. There, it's been said, for once.

The father should be the unquestionable patriarch of the family and therefore have a healthy indifference where his daughters are concerned -- so long as they maintain a modicum of a veneer of respectability. If they go ape shit, he should dread them. Nothing more.

[–]johndoe21012014 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

How about a woman whose father was as blue pill as it gets?

[–]Bro-ku 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Never marry a woman who never had a father.

Can you elaborate? Currently in LTR with said woman.

She is the most kind-hearted girl I've ever dated/met and often agrees with TRP mentalities.

But she's also European, the many American girls I've had relationships with have all been spoiled brats who used and abused me and didn't give two shits about anyone but themselves.

[–]omg_cats 28 points28 points28 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Women are wired to seek male attention from the time they are born, and it creates a deficit when they don't get it. In a healthy nuclear family, this male attention is provided by the father. When dad isn't around the girl thinks it's all cool... Then she hits puberty and goes seeking male attention any way she can get it. Which is why women who had their First Time at like 13 have daddy issues, almost without exception.

She seems cool now but that deficit was created and you can never overcome it. The second you're not available to her she'll fill that hole somehow.

Her nationality doesn't matter, females are wired to need the male attention fathers are supposed to give.

Once in a while you'll run into a woman who acts this out by investing in you 300%, but it comes from a place of need on her end, she can't bear the thought of another male abandoning her. Kind of a good deal for a dark triad type but ultimately not ltr material.

Many of these points seem to be somewhat unrelated to the issue. And those that aren't are "symptoms" of other "diseases" , not growing up without a father.

[–]TRP VanguardJP_Whoregan 77 points78 points79 points 12 years ago (37 children) | Copy Link

Before TRP, I dated a single mom for four years, and I almost wound myself up in jail over trumped up "abuse" charges, even though I never laid a hand on her kids.

Listen to me and listen closely: When you are the man in a single mother relationship, the kid's word carries twice the weight that yours does. I had to show pictures, videos, and swear testimony to Child Protective Services last year (all because I took away the 9-year-old's iPhone (that I paid for) due to poor grades), to keep my ass out of jail. Luckily for me, her mother and I were broken up three months later (this sparked me to find TRP).

Men, listen: Stay the FUCK away from single mothers.

You may think you're "gaming" them into being plates. Fact of the matter is, a single mother KNOWS THE LAW, she's spent YEARS perfecting what she needs to extract maximum benefit from a man. Don't get involved. Period. I don't care how hot she is, I don't care what nonsense she feeds you.

I'm lucky to live in the state I live in, because in many states, i'd be on the hook for child extort after the amount of time elapsed.

There's PLENTY of nubile pussy out there. There's no need to acquiesce to single mothers.

[–][deleted] 43 points44 points45 points 12 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

In small town midwest there are only single mothers. The struggle is real.

[–][deleted] 32 points33 points34 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Then leave. Go west, young man.

[–]salami_inferno 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

North would also be good bet.

[–]ihavecandygetinmyvan 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Or East. Anywhere but there.

[–]Ace-of-Spades88 13 points14 points15 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You speak the truth. Half my hometown is single mothers. The other half are on their way.

[–]2alisonstone 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Statistically speaking, more than half of the women in the U.S. of ages 26-31 are single mothers (i.e. for most of the people here who are still playing the dating market, this is the future you are looking at). So there is nothing odd with your hometown, it is actually quite average.

I spent 4 years in Nebraska while in the military, and I can confirm this to be true. It's almost like they get pregnant from drinking the water out there.

[–]Endorsed ContributorFLFTW16 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Then stay single, Go Your Own Way, or Go GayTM.

Even in my BP days single moms were off limits. There is just no reason for it.

[–]1100110011001 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Smallish town in the northwest (35k people) and it's been a running joke about girls having at least 3 kids from at least 2 daddys before the age of 30. Sadly, it's pretty spot-on.

[–]MordorsFinest 8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I never understood the appeal of raising and paying for another man's offspring and being attracted to another man's leavings. It's like being a vulture or a raccoon, she is single for a good reason.

[–]TRP VanguardJP_Whoregan 19 points20 points21 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's because when you're solid blue pill, society tells you that you're doing something "noble" and mature and "Manning upTM ", and you believe that shit. What you're really doing is cuckolding and provisioning for another man's seed. You take up all of his "daddy" responsibilities while he runs around fucking random pussy.

I enjoy hearing this story but got to ask why does a 9 year old need a phone let alone an iPhone?

[–]TRP VanguardJP_Whoregan 23 points24 points25 points 12 years ago* (11 children) | Copy Link

Because her mother spoils the living shit out of her with no regard to my parenting position in the matter. See, that's what you get when you sign up to be the "replacement daddy"; you get all of the joy of paying for the upbringing of another man's child, but none of the authority that comes with traditional parenthood. I didn't pay for the phone itself, but she just took the liberty of adding the line to my account because she knew my account password.

Whenever it came to spending money, paying the mortgage, buying groceries, paying for vacations, etc, they were "our kids". But when it came to discipline, what to do when she comes home with all "C's" and one "D" on a report card, or making decisions about what was or wasn't appropriate, they were "her kids".

See how that works?

[–]1100110011001 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Holy shit, I think you dated my ex-wife lol. She bought all of the kids (6, 7, 9, and 14 yrs old, the eldest are mine) iphones/ipads/droids yet asked for extra child support money because she was broke.

[–]TRP VanguardJP_Whoregan 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

They all do this instinctually. My ex GF's ex-husband would send the kids a gift box in the mail, and the woman would hide it in my closet. She wanted to make sure that all sources of happiness for the kids originated with HER. In retrospect, I wish I could sit down and have a beer with the guy. I'm willing to bet a lot of the shit she pulled on me before she left, she also pulled on him.

This is what many men don't get. A woman's hypergamy is already in play by the time she turns 18 and discovers what sex is. However, introduce kids into the mix, and hypergamy becomes paramount if not ruthless. She has kids, she's alone, and she will hitch her wagon to the nearest man who can provision her children. If another man comes along at any point who can provision better, she will jump wagons without hesitation, without fail.

She couldn't commit to the man whom she chose to have children with. Having children is probably the biggest decision one could make in one's life. What does that tell you? It should tell you everything you need to know.

[–]1100110011001 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Jesus Christ, my ex did this shit too. And come xmas, she would take all the presents people sent and put "From Santa" on them, except for the most expensive ones she bought (from child support money) in which she marked "From Mommy"

This sounds so much like the same girl but it's not because she's not alone (she's got her current boyfriend of 3 or 4 years trapped with kids he didn't want to have).

Oh, and yes this ex-wife of mine also grew up without a father in her life; weird huh?

[–]TRP VanguardJP_Whoregan 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Even though she was (probably) fucking a (former) friend of mine last year in early to mid-December, she waited out breaking up with me until AFTER Christmas, where my mother bought both kids Samsung Galaxy tablets, a fuckload of new clothes, and other toys. She decided AFTER Christmas that she was leaving. Granted, I made the decision easy, as the week after Xmas she stayed out all night on a Saturday, and I had intel on what she was doing. She tried lying by telling me she was at her mother's house, when in fact I had bros confirm she was fucking another man.

[–]1100110011001 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Jesus, that's scandalous. You know she thought that shit out ahead of time. Should have taken all the gifts back and told the kids they lose their toys because of their mother's actions. I don't like the idea of being cruel to kids, but maybe that would leave a lasting impression about the bitch of a mom they had.

[–]TRP VanguardJP_Whoregan 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

My mother adopted those kids as though they were her own grandkids. After the cold way in which ex-GF left, she told me she'd disown my ass if I ever got tangled up with a single mother again. Ex-GF broke my mother's heart more than anything, I got over it sooner than she did.

[–]1100110011001 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That's fucked up. At least you didn't knock her up and become another paycheck-daddy for her.

[–]JP_Whoregan1 point 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

She tried on a visit to Miami. We bought a preg test at CVS at 2am, and she turned up positive. I told her that if the father was me, I'd support fully, but if she left, she'd only get what the law dictates. 2 weeks later, she says she "miscarried" the baby. I call "bullshit", the baby was never mine to begin with. She thought she could "beta bux" me to pay for her "alpha fux."

[–]11001100110011 point 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Typical. A plate I had tried to pull that shit on me, not knowing I had a vasectomy a few years before. She had a miscarriage soon after I showed her the test results showing zero sperm count and I said if she got pregnant, its with another man and I WILL be doing a dna test if she tries to say otherwise. Women that do this shit need to be penalized somehow; preferably behind bars and be on public record for their lies.

[–]MartialWay 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Whoregan is committing major ownage all over this thread.

[–]salami_inferno 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Seriously, at 9 years old I was still rubbing dirt in my scrapes and running several blocks to call on my friends. I understand a basic phone for your child to keep in touch but giving them a smart phone at 9 is asking for a shit storm.

[–]TRP VanguardJP_Whoregan 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

At 9 years old I was playing football barefoot in the empty lot next to my house with the neighborhood kids.

[–]laere 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Those were the days. I did play video games at a young age, however, when you live in a neighborhood and on a lake, playing tag and hide and go seek with football fields worth of hiding spots was fucking amazing. Good times.

Sucks nowadays women literally eject babies with tablets already in their hands.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Letting a kid have a cheapo PAYG phone is good for keeping tabs on them, or enabling them to keep in contact when they're out, but only a cheap shitty phone that does calls and texts, not some daft smartphone.

[–]Magnum256 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It's the way the world's going. Guy I worked with was talking about how smart his 3 year old daughter is and how skilled she is at using the new iPad he just bought her. Another guy I work with has bought his 5 year old half a dozen laptops because the kid keeps smashing them or dropping them off tables.

The opinion these people have is that we're living in a technological world and without starting children on the path of tech early is putting them at a disadvantage. I'm sure it won't be long before children are getting digital toys before they're 12 months old.

I think it can be a great educational tool if you limit what they can do with it to educational apps, and limit the amount of time they are on it. A 4 year old could probably teach himself to read by playing around with an iPad with reading and story apps. You can get special cases for the iPad that make it resistant to being dropped and having shit spilled all over it.

I work at a hospital and on the peds floor we give iPads to the kids, of course all networking is disabled, and all they can do on it are play educational games and apps. Some of those little 5 year olds know how to use the iPad better than me. I think exposing kids to technology is better done sooner rather than later

I met up with an old friend from high school when I was 22. We used to hang out but never dated because I was going out with her best friend at the time. Either way I found out she got knocked up by some guy and ended up having a prom baby.

I was a bit naive and I really wanted to get it in. So I told her I wasn't looking for a relationship and just wanted to have fun. She was cool with being my fuck buddy at first. We would have a lot of sex for the following weeks. Little by little we would end up talking about relationship stuff and about her kid. She would show me pictures of her kid and talk about him which I didn't think was too weird but then she started to invite me on dates. I went out with her because I knew afterward I would get it in. I didn't realize I had involuntarily set myself up in a relationship with her.

Until one day she said "what role do you want to play in my kids life." I was baffled, I had no idea how I got myself into this. I wanted to keep having sex but I also didn't want to be a dad. I told her that I wanted to keep it casual. I ended up losing my fuck buddy but at least I didn't end up a step dad.

tl;dr- Meet up with old friend, she is a single mom now. We become fuck buddies. Tries to get me to be her kids dad little by little.

You discipline the kid: "you don't treat my child like that!" You don't discipline the kid: "are you a man? You have to be firm with them!"

And if you just say "hey, it's not my kid, not my responsibility" you're seen as not backing her up. She then shuts everything down: sex, conversation, stuff you do together.

Single mums know the power they have and they use it, as do the kids if they're old enough.

making that money at that age is nothing to be ashamed of.

[–]blue_27 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Depends on where you live. It's less than minimum wage in Seattle. You should be able to support yourself and put something away at the age of 30. I don't think $24K/yr can do that.

[–]thetenman -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It might not be anything to be ashamed of, but you defiantly need to step your game up if that is your income. I am not saying that for chicks either, there is so much you can not do with out a little cash. When you make a good 6 figure income there is an entirely different world of things to do. To be honest there is so much money being made in the world, it is fairly easy to get a little for yourself.

They make good plates assuming limited/no #15. I don't have to worry about #1.

Even if you're not in Cali, you would have to predict whether or not your own state might adopt a similar law anytime in the next 18 years. As fewer and fewer people start signing up for the suicide mission, they've got to start drafting people.

This kind of baffles me. Not just the injustice, but also the shortsightedness of it - it's not as if single mothers weren't already shelf warmers on the dating market the way they are. Sure, in the short term this may solve some problems because some poor chump wasn't aware of the laws and can't get off the hook, but in the long run, it's just another nail in the coffin of the long term-dating chances of single mothers. Because even if I were not opposed to a relationship with a single mother, you can bet I wouldn't risk it if I lived in a state were I could be forced to pay child support simply by virtue of having "taken a fatherly role".

[–]itwasntme19 8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

lots of good points here. look, I can't speak for everyone but living in a big city has its advantages because there are plenty of single girls compared to living in a small town. dealt with plenty of single moms but only for casual encounters. to much BS to deal with, lots of emotional scars, body don't look great no more.as to them being "loose" down there I can tell you, kids or no kids,if the girl doesn't exercise sex won't be so good.

as for some people here saying we aren't real men because we don't want to deal with "real life problems"? hey look, these single moms will always say they won't settle for just anyone. so why should we?

Psychology today once dedicated an entire issue to the topic, which basically read as one big "don't do it".

7) Decision Making and Judgment Skills Are On Display

This chick got knocked up by somebody that she was "supposedly in love with." Not only is she a bad judge of character, she's GROSSLY irresponsible. The same guy that's an inattentive, insensate, abusive a$$hole now, is the same guy she thought the world of and had unprotected sex with.

This is one men really need to be paying attention to if they are looking for a long term prospect. How many of these single moms are due to deception from a male versus just being stupid and trying to lock down a bad boy with a keep-a-man baby?

Lately it seems the latter far more often than the former. The consequences of ignoring all the glaring warning signs that a man is not interested in or capable of being a good father have largely been mitigated by welfare programs, the only real tool that single and responsible men have left is refusing to offer commitment or even the basest of attentions to a single mom, or ultimately risk being left holding the bill for another person's lack of responsibility.

And I say this as the son of a single mom and in the past a naive dumb-ass that gave single moms time that they later demonstrated that they did not deserve. Never again.

As a single dad, let me quickly explain the differences between dating a single dad and a single mother. For a single mother, you will never be number one, and she advertises this on her internet profile. For a single dad, you will just be another childish person he was put on this earth to take care of. Fathers are able to balance the responsibility of a relationship much better. I don't have to play favorites with my kids or my girlfriends, for some reason single moms just don't get that.

Also, since my ex married a single dad, I've watched how he's moved in to our former place, she already has him running errands for her like bringing the kids to my place. My son actually told me his mom said he didn't have to listen to this guy because "he wasn't the boss of the house." I couldn't believe, as much as I resented this guy, I had to tell my son, no you listen to him and follow his directions because he is an adult in the house. I don't care if he doesn't deserve my son's respect, I want my son to grow up as a respectful person, something his mom knows nothing about.

[–]byronshadow 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I always stress #2 to friends thinking of getting involved with a single mother. We have this cultural concept of the deadbeat dad vanishing into the night when his girlfriend tells him she's pregnant. In actuality many deadbeat dads randomly show up whenever they feel like playing at being a dad or fucking the mom.

[–]Endorsed ContributorRedBigMan 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

My issue is with #6...

The woman and her child always occupy #1 and #2 positions. So when you date a single mother you are automatically relegated to #3.

Most men can accept being #3 if the kid that is occupying the #1 or #2 position is their own though.

If you are a high enough status male you force yourself to #2 (for non-single moms) or #3 (For single moms and women you have children with).

Ultimately you need to make sure that she cant afford to lose you and honestly with a single mom she ain't worth that level of effort.

Don't date single mums is great advice for the young guys here who might encounter some hot mummy in her 20s and think they can get in there and avoid the bullshit (they can't).

It's a different story when you're older. I'm in my 40s and despite improving I have to be realistic and say I'm not the kind of guy that's going to be macking the 20someting women. So I'm looking at women 30s and 40s, nearer my age.

And that's where it gets difficult. The older they are, the more likely that woman is to be a single mum, and by the time they're in their 40s you're looking not only at her having teenage children, but additional baggage. A childless woman over 35 is either infertile or has some other issue.

Maybe by the time a woman is in her 50s and her children have grown up and moved away it's not so bad, but obviously you would have to be into your old(er) women.

The point is despite the warnings and the overwhelming evidence that proves single mums are not really worth the bother unless your game is super-tight, some men will go for the gamble because either they have no/limited options, or the pull of the pussy is just too great.

Ideally a man would have nothing to do with a single mum, it's a slippery slope that starts off with the kids being in the background to full-on stand-in daddy with no viable escape route. But if your options are limited to single mums, make damn sure you can get out of there at any time, and make sure your frame is rock-solid, because it's going to take a battering.

edit: typos and relying too much on spellcheck.

[–]ImALoneWolfBaby -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Well I have actually considered it. Here is why, I want a kid but I don't want a baby. Adoption is hard especially as a single male so find a woman with a kid and there I go. Then again, my dogs are pretty much kids.

[–]Statecensor 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Are you really considering raising another mans kid because you do not want to deal with a baby for 2-3 years? You will regret the decision the first time the kid tells you that you are not his dad and don't get to give him orders. While his mother awkwardly ignores what is going on.

[–]thetenman 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I had a former MLB player that I was close to growing up teach me a lesson that I think applies to many situations, especially what you just wrote. I was pretty nerdy early in life and when I was 13 my father signed me up for a travel baseball team for 13-15 year olds. I was AWFUL. I HATED it. One day this former MLB family friend heard of the trouble I was having on this team and he offered to teach me to hit. I showed up at his house for a lesson thinking that it would just be me and him. NOPE! there were three other college aged guys taking batting practice in his cage with him, and they were CRUSHING IT. So great I thought out of the frying pan into the fire, I was going to look even worse. I timidly step into the cage and before the family friend threw the first pitch, he asks me a question. He said "Who is the best hitter you know?". I was a little taken by surprise as the question came from no where but I stammered "Ken Griffey Jr". The man and the college aged guys laughed, and the fear rose in me like a gyser. The man turned to each of the college aged guys and asked them the same question in turn. They each responded with perfect confidence with a loud "ME!". The man turned to me and said "Is Ken Griffey going to hit for you?". "No" I said. "If your team needs a base hit to win the game, is Griffey going to show up to get?". "No" I said finally starting to get the message. There are many lessons that can be taken from that simple exchange. The most important is that you need irrational confidence in your abilities, and it does not even matter if it is wrong because you are all you have. So you work on your game, just like those college aged guys worked on their swing. They worked to get better NOT because they did not believe they were good enough. So DazPatrick, Who is the best looking mother fucker on the face of the planet? Who has the sickest, slickest game in the history of time?

How many more of these don't date a single mother thread are y'all gonna post before you give it a rest?

[–]iPCV -15 points-15 points-15 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I have issues with just about every point that was made by the OP. In conclusion, it sounds like OP is just a bitch that isn't ready to deal with life. I am not even a father, I've only had to help raise younger siblings, and even so the things that are listed are things that any man should be able to deal with.

All I have to say for those of you guys who are dating those single moms. Yea, things aren't always smooth, but you are a man. Men deal with problems. If you are too much of a bitch to raise a child, worrying about your woman leaving you, not able to teach discipline, or pay an extra $10 for a kid's birthday cake... Then yes, you need not apply.

I thought TRP was all about the truth and being a man? Well, the truth is all relationships have problems and men would rather solve the problem than run away. Maybe I am misreading the whole thread and really, it's just a shit test and if you read it and all of a sudden you are afraid to date a woman because she has a kid then maybe that tells you something.

What a novelty, the shaming of guys who don't want to raise another man's child. The answer is I'd love to have children, I just want them to be my own.

[–]TRP VanguardJP_Whoregan 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

And that's what makes you a "shitlord" and a "bitch man" in the eyes of /u/iPCV, who obviously takes pride in cuckolding other men's children. Single motherhood is perhaps the greatest testament to women's short-sightedness and hamster rationalizing. Having a fatherless child changes a woman's life in myriad ways, most of them negative. But they never understand that. They're willing to trade 18 years of misery and loneliness in exchange for the baby shower and 18 months of attention from family and friends with "awww how cute" messages on Facebook.

[–]gyiparrp 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

JP, if I understand you correctly, your logic is something like this:

  • All single mothers are completely responsible for their being single and for their having kids.
  • Single motherhood negatively affects women in some way.
  • Therefore, all such women, no matter the age of the youngest child, are short-sighted and shallow or worse.

Is that about right?

[–]TRP VanguardJP_Whoregan 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women have 11 different methods of birth control available to them. In the 21st century, if a woman doesn't want to have a baby, she doesn't have to. She can slut around as many dicks as she wants to, and never suffer a pregnancy that she doesn't want.

In today's world, if a woman gives birth, it's because she wants to And if a woman chooses to give birth to a child when the father has explicitly communicated his desire NOT to be a father, then yes, the woman is responsible for her choices. She knew what she was getting into before she gave birth. If a woman chooses to birth a fatherless baby on her own will, it's obvious she was only after child extort to begin with. This is your typical single mother. Avoid them.

Allow me to reconcile your comment with that of the OP. He's addressing young men who merely want to get laid on a regular basis.

By contrast, if you are a man ready for the challenges of parenthood, and aren't a narcissistic prick, then courting a single-mom has its advantages:

  • Their life-experiences, including shitty men, may make them more open to appreciating a real man like yourself. A girl who's never been with a total dick may not realize nor appreciate you. Indeed, you'll be #2 (or #3), but she may end up appreciating you more as #2 than a less-experienced gal would.

  • They may be more experienced in bed. Many girls who've had many short-term relationships and ONS never get to experience the trust that intimacy brings. With that trust comes a willingness to further explore sexuality.

  • Kegel muscles might be stronger. As preparation for natural birth as well as post-birth therapy, obgyn's recommend exercises to strengthen her Kegel muscles. If you don't know why this is a good thing, you've been missing quite a bit.

  • Proven responsibility. Of course many single women are by definition irresponsible. However, raising a kid requires a lot of responsibility. If the single mom is doing the raising herself (and not constantly shirking it to a family member), there's a good chance she's learned to be accountable. Contrast this with the numerous 20-somethings whose college tuition in an unhireable field was paid for by daddy, and whose idea of accountability is being on time and having the right shade of lipstick on.

  • Proven child-rearing skills. If you're serious about marriage and having children, it's a bonus to know she can do it. Some women aren't fit to be mothers, but you might not figure that out until it's too late.

When considering to date a single-mom, qualify her in regards to the above:

  • Why is she a single mom? Many women will be shy about it, especially if they feel guilt or remorse or grief; they're probably not ready yet. Some will shift blame to the ex: "He left me for a younger woman." That happens, but I'd be dubious it was just that. Some women will come right out and say "I made a bad decision." I'd feel much better with that. And of course, some are widows who've moved on.

  • Is the kid physically and emotionally healthy? Lots of bruises may indicate he gets bullied and picked on or even abused; extreme caution there. Lack of trust or extreme shyness indicates may indicate emotional isolation or abuse; be a bit careful there. If the kid is open to you and enjoys your company (after a couple of visits, obviously), this would be a very good sign.

  • Is the house tidy? It may sound superficial, but if the house is untidy, dishes are stacked up, ants and cockroaches are crawling around, GET OUT. If the kid's room is always a mess, that might not be a bad thing -- it may mean he or she is active. But if the common area is a mess, it's a yellow flag.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

[–]TRP VanguardJP_Whoregan 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

The very words "single mother" tell you two very distinct things about her:

  1. You know how she feels about birth control (she doesn't).
  2. You know how she feels about the importance of family in raising kids (she doesn't).

Despite the above point by point drivel sticking up for single moms, you don't need to know anything beyond the two points I've listed.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, I was really surprised to see that from so many people here. Good to see an OG back me up.

[–]gyiparrp -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

"Single mother" tells you nothing of the sort. You can't even claim it's 80% of the cases.

  1. Widows. Most common: Police officers who died in the line of duty; military who died while oversees; depressed men who committed suicide. You don't want one of these? Fine. I wouldn't turn one down just because she has a child.

  2. Raped and doesn't believe in abortion.

  3. Deadbeat dad. Maybe he was downsized, had no money, and deserted his family. The fact we have a name for it implies it happens all too often. I met plenty of such disgraceful men who abandoned their wife and kids.

  4. Two adults realize they can't live together and so divorce. Maybe the gal made bad decisions regarding the man, maybe it was the man who made bad decisions about her, but whatever.

  5. The Pill is between 97% and 99% effective when used consistently, which means that if use no other forms of control, and for a period of two years you engage in sex during her peak periods (5 days a month), climaxing every time, there's a very high probability of a pregnancy.

[–]TRP VanguardJP_Whoregan 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You're fucking high. Nobody decides ultimately to have kids except the women that have them. Period. You have all of the freedom, all of the contraception, what the fuck more to you want?

A widow is still considered a single mother.

If you can't understand that passing away from natural causes is different than leaving the father of your children, then a lot of TRP is going to be way over your head.

I understand this completely, but this forum post never made that distinction. It specifically talks about single mothers and while I know I'm in the 1.2% (kids with single parents who were widowed) that doesn't change the fact that a lot of this bullshit was still applied to my mother.

EDIT: And trust me, nothing you people say will be over my head. Before my dad passed away he still had the opportunity to teach me how to be a real man. I agree with a lot of the stuff I see on here, but a lot of it is still just neck-beards looking to hate against something they can't understand.

[–]thetenman -2 points-1 points0 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Aside from the fact that it is some of the easiest NSA pussy going, there is no good reason to get mixed up with a single mother. If you decide to get involved with a single mother there are some simple rules to live by. 1. She should be one of many. This is true of all women but it goes doubly and triply for single mothers. 2. Delay meeting the child for as long as possible. This will make it difficult for you two to hang out, but that is only a problem if you are trying to get serious.

I am sure there are some other rules that others have, but these are mine.
