I work in the military, and one of my co-workers recently asked if I could switch watches with her. My watch is from 0800 to 1600, and hers is from 2400 to 0800. I have the better deal, as we're already at work from 0800 to 1600 anyways. She asked if I could switch since she wanted to leave work and go on a trip with her fiance. The old me would have capitulated as I would "feel bad" about her situation. I simply said No, because I have the better deal and I didn't want to drag my ass to work at 2400. I wasn't mean about it I just told her No and that was it.

She comes back later with a sweeter deal. She offers me $50 to switch watches with her. I agreed to that deal, since I was being fairly compensated. I also got the day off so I could prepare for the watch. This goes back to always making yourself your mental point of origin. Always ensure that your needs are met before trying to help others. Women naturally make themselves their mental point of origin anyways. In fact, they're ridiculed if they don't, because that would go against the Strong Independent Woman mantra.

I'm living in Asia, and after just using the ATM a young attractive western european girl came up to me and asked me to "exchange" her money for her. She explained that she ran out of local currency to use the subway and "maybe you could exchange my Euros since the bank is closed?". Nice guy me would have said yes for the cute young traveler, but instead I told her to use her foreign card in the ATM and walked away. The look on her face expressed astonishment that I didn't trade her money. I'm not a bank, and wtf am I going to do with Euros - I'm not even from Europe.

I would never allow myself to get into that situation while travelling, and I would always have a backup plan in case something went wrong. She expected me to bail her out as she has probably experienced in any other situation that required the slightest bit of planning back in her country. Welcome to the real world lady.

Not only do they like it better (and I don't have to be a manservant) it's actually the more respectful thing to do because I'm treating them like a human being rather than some delicate creature.

I get on a plane and take my aisle seat in the low 20's. A male/female pair come along, and the woman asks if I will swap seats with her brother so they can sit together. His seat is the middle one row back. I say no thanks, I fight for my aisle seats. I talk to the woman after she takes the middle seat next to me and find out she is going to a wedding blah blah blah. I get home, and my room mate is going to the same wedding!! So I go to the reception late, greet the special couple, find my gal from the plane and she leads me away from the party. Why?? Because, husband be damned, I told her no in front of her family and sent her brother to the naughty corner, then showed my social proof by having one of my peers be one of the people her new family wants to impress.
