I lost my last grand pappy this year who was truly a man among boys. WWII fighter pilot, engineer, built his own house, married for like 55 years and maintained frame like a master even into his 90s.

Those old timers were steeped in the good old days and you can learn so much about being a solid stoic man just by hanging/going fishing with them or whatever.

My biggest regret in life so far was refusing to listen to my father's woman advice when I was in high school. Turns out the old man is incredibly red pill without knowing it's a "thing". I could have had such a head start if I had shut my stupid mouth and listened to him once in a while.

Spent the day with my family and at the end of it my elementary school boy asked me if I "got to do everything I wanted to" that day.

Daughters and wife were nice.. they got me cards and said nice things but guess whose world doesn't revolve around self and is capable of thinking of others--- the boy.

Im gonna make sure he grows up and never needs to "unplug". His awareness will precede Jr High

While i do love and respect my father (and everyones fathers) i find this whole "let's have a day in the year to celebrate X" pretentious. Your father should know if you love him or not. Learn from him and respect him every day .

They are even trying to turn fathers day into a female holiday. On Facebook I have seen many more "happy fathers day"s sent to single mothers than actual dads. Maybe I just need better friends.

Parents divorced when I was eight . Mom worked full time in grocery biz, kept me and 2 sisters housed, clothed, fed. When something broke she'd tell me to fix it, only when it was clear it was impossible for me to fix would she call someone (after much wailing and gnashing of teeth). When I would get beat up in jr. h.s. and h.s. and I'd come home whining she'd say "what do you expect me to do ?" I tried to enlist in the military at 17, she refused to sign the papers (toward the end of nam). "there's a war going on you idiot".Ended up going in at 18. Got in a major motorcycle wreck in my 20's. She took me in till I recovered, then kicked me out. She co-signed a loan for my first house (paid back every cent). She's getting up there now and I see her at least twice a week (taking care of sonny do's). Happy Fathers day Mom!

I agree with OP. Go and thank him. I lost my father 11 years ago when i was 10 and it still hurts sometimes. Thank God that my granda was around till my 15 so he could give me some guidance. He was alfa as fuck. He never let anyone to disrespect him. He fought Germans in Prague uprising in WW2. Then had to take shit from comunists for 40 years cauz he never bowed to them. He had to leave his hometown because of them.

Still he raised my mother, best woman i know. She´s strong, smart (still AWALT though) and she did her best to raise me and my younger sister.

Thank God for him. I actually feel guilty sometimes because i never miss him like i miss my father but he made me more of a man than anybody else. I hope he can forgive me that cauz now i reliaze that he loved me more then my sister and i think even more then my mother. I guess i was that son he never had.

Thanks granda i love you. I hope you are watching me from heaven i´ll do my best to make you proud.

Yeah - my Mom was always about how she loves me really, really hard but it always was just a talk. While I never heard from my Old one he loves me ONCE - but he would be always there for me, really help me solving problems and doing all the actual hard work. (even thou he was beta in the relationship)

You guys may laugh at this but ever since he died, I tend to view things through his perspective, unwillingly. It's like he crashes my prism every time it's time to act or ponder.

We've always been extremely different: Him a real patriarch focused on engineering, building his own business, leading the family. No nonsense, to the extreme. I was a typical bluepill boy, took more after my mother (music, art, spontaneity, FUN). I talked the talk but he walked the walk. There was rarely any humor to be had with him and when there was, everyone got offended. He loved to say the most controversial stuff, then watch the uproar and smile to himself. I feel like my whole childhood and puberty I completely misunderstood him. And he misunderstood me. Empathy was not one of his strengths.

I know I will never be like him, that is an impossibility, character-wise. I will not come even close to the feats of willpower he possessed. But I can and will be so much better through and thanks to him. He always said: 'You think what I tell you is bullshit. But one day I'll be gone and you'll know better.'

The old man was right.

My pop got another woman pregnant while he was still with my mother. For so long I hated him and all that, but the mother fucker didnt give up on me or my siblings.

Actually fought (and won!) visitation rights. Took my brothers and I fishing, camping etc. Taught us how to be men. Well, some of us. My brother fed into the whole (be a good mama's boy) bullshit my mother tried to push onto us. I guess I was too old or whatever, but I always kind of just connected with my dad.

He was your typical player too. Getting bitches left and right, but he was a good role model for us growing up. At least, the best he could have been, and fuck at least he was there at all.

My father and grandfather are great. They taught me a lot about the world and how you should think for yourself. That you should do shit for yourself and not for the sake of others. That has helped me out a lot after all the shit that went down with my mother. As she was a perfect example of AWALT.

I do thank my father but for reasons other than "Thank you for being a great example of masculine energy". My father was a homosexual and he didn't tell anybody until I was 16. This lead to a divorce, single-mother upbringing and him leaving the country to live in the Pacific Islands. I didn't speak to him for 7 years because I couldn't forgive him for being a homosexual and still getting married (his father, extremely red-pill Polynesian man who would send my father to hell if he found out he was gay).

2 months ago, I made a trip over to see my father. Spent time with him and we talked. I thank him for at least having the courage to leave the family and for the spiritual conversations we would have as father and son.

I guess if it wasn't for him leaving, I wouldn't have gone through the struggle which lead me to the RP state of mind
