Today's Father's Day, at least in the US.

As I walked in my local supermarket the last week, I think I may have seen one teeny, tiny sign proclaiming father's day. As opposed to the endless bombardment on the more female-centric holidays such as Mother's Day or Valentine's Day -- where Men are bombarded with propaganda to adore and serve the women in their life and buy the next round of useless shit for them. Somehow the consumerism doesn't really go all out the other way.

Looking back, I think every former boy fortunate enough to have a decent dad can really see how their fathers sacrificed for them behind the scenes. I thought my mom was awesome growing up, she always sympathized when there was cause to complain and had an open ear... but now I notice she never really did much, beyond nurturing, to improve the situation even though she was around a lot more. It's like she took all the practice she had from listening to her girl friends bitch and complain about various things when growing up and applied that skillset to her kids. But had nothing to teach beyond that.

But Dad, he either told me to STFU if it was my stupid ass whining about stupid shit, or taught me to fix it myself if it was something worthwhile. Sometimes I really resented shit like that at the time; my feels were important to me and self-sufficiency wasn't fun at that age - things were supposed to get magically fixed. The type of nonsense the world knocks out of you fast if you're unprepared - say within a system given participation trophies growing up.

Fathers are really the unsung hero of modernity. Studies after studies show how kids develop much more positively with a father in their life. Instead, since the 60s at least, the government incentivizes women away from seeking stable husbands. Fathers play the fool in most sitcoms. Single mothers are endlessly praised for their shitty choices.

Anyway, just a reminder, whether redpill or not, if your dad was a positive force in your life - give him a call and thank him.
