So what you're telling me is a LTR will kill my gains, damn, life choices man.

[–]zombig13 points14 points15 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Correlation=/=causation

On the other hand, I felt like a testless pussy in my ltr. Maybe that was stress (cortisol) related, who knows.

You can always add more testosterone into your butt so its not a big deal

I’d love to go lifting with you GayLubeOil.

I wouldn't throw caution to the wind if I were you. There's a difference between calculated risk and hubristic recklessness.

To each their own, but unless you're a competitive bodybuilder then cutting corners with steroids are for the short-sighted. Unsightly side effects like growth hormone gut notwithstanding (among other things), sticking a needle in your ass is akin to taking out a student loan for a liberal arts degree; it's idiotic and you're going to lose more in the end than you're going to get back from it.

These days there's plenty of natty methods to maintain productive T levels now and later in life if you do your research and experiment. Royal Jelly for example has been shown to increase testosterone. Another example: Maca root. It keeps your hormone levels in balance and makes me horny as a motherfucking beast (kicks in same day for me). Training wise my recovery has improved and energy went up once I started using it.

From what I recall the study /u/rztzz mentioned showed that if you hold off on busting a nut for a week your T levels spike the 7th day though that's not really doable if you get laid often. But time it just right with a 24 hour fast (which can increase HGH up to 20x by the end) and you net yourself a pleasant boost once a week for training.

If you want a cognitive boost and a powerful IDGAF factor, instead of artificially increasing T you can burn Kratom. If you don't know what Kratom is, GoodLookingLoser is a good place to start and will pay dividends if you aren't retarded and rotate your strains to keep your tolerance low.

EDIT: Flow.

it's idiotic and you're going to lose more in the end than you're going to get back from it.

I disagree with your assertion. It's too cryptic and generic. If you get regular blood tests and monitor vital signs like blood pressure on a regular basis, you'll be perfectly fine. Education is obviously key. If you're reckless and run orals for six months at a time, you'll probably do some significant damage to your organs. As long as you check your blood and either cycle off or drop into a cruise when your blood values are getting worrisome, you'll be fine.

The common deleterious side effects from steroids that were well known a few decades ago can be completely mitigated with additional supplements (e.g. hair loss, gynecomastia, erectile dysfunction, etc.)

The only "significant" issue I would consider from long-term steroid use is secondary hypogandism, in which your testicles permanently "shut down" and stop producing sperm or testosterone. If that happens, then you're permanently relegated to using steroids forever to maintain a decent quality of life. To this I say, testosterone levels decline significantly in men in their thirties anyway. There's a good chance a natural guy will end up on testosterone replacement therapy regardless. And is it really so bad if you have to use steroids forever? Forever forced to feel like a god among men, with literal superhuman strength, energy, and stamina. How terrible. There are even drugs that temporarily revive the testicles long enough to successfully get a girl pregnant, if you're so inclined to ruin your life that way.

I say the benefits in quality of life far outweigh the risks of intelligent and responsible steroid use.

[–]1RPB17 points8 points9 points 11 years ago* (6 children) | Copy Link

I disagree with your assertion. It's too cryptic and generic.

So? I've no inclination to qualify my assertion nor do I need to. The effects of steroids are thoroughly covered in scientific and anecdotal literature.

As I said before: to each their own.

Are there medically valid reasons for taking steroids? Absolutely. But most men who take steroids aren't doing it because of a defect, they're typically young bucks who want to overexert their bodies for the wrong reasons at the expense of their natural-born hardware.

Our behavior and the decisions we make with our bodies don't exist in a vacuum.

Every guy without a medical issue taking steroids is doing it to get bigger faster like they're friggin Super Trunks. Period. Nobody takes it for the mental side effects; those are simply platitudes to justify their reasoning. Superior mental augmentations can be acquired through cocaine or Adderall a lot easier, though that too presents problems. Such is the case any time you try to overclock your body. As far as nootropic effects go, Kratom works better than both in my experience but I digress.

The common deleterious side effects from steroids that were well known a few decades ago can be completely mitigated with additional supplements.

Nice, so now I get to be physically dependent on something when I can get my body to do it safely through hard work and patience. What happens if for any reason I don't have access, such as due to finances or location? Too many younger men think about the short game to the detriment of their older selves who would kick their asses if they could. They don't see the forest for the trees and lack the frame of reference to do so.

A common thing I hear a lot of gear stackers say is "who cares about the side effects?" or as GLO likes to blare: "Fuck safety."

Excessive testosterone tends to make us highly resistant or immune to fear. That has its uses, but there's a reason young men fuck themselves up doing stupid shit more often. Calculated gambles can yield worthy rewards, but not all fear is useless. The sensation of fear is useful information that helps us keep our asses alive and healthy. When you're on gear, you're even more predisposed to doing dumb shit to yourself (like taking more steroids). Pretty easy to do when you're playing with an ACME dynamite kit.

I say the benefits in quality of life far outweigh the risks of intelligent and responsible steroid use.

You can say that, but the empirical evidence to the contrary doesn't support that position.

There's no such thing as intelligent and responsible steroid use, there is only mitigating the damage it does which isn't a sustainable model. Every guy on steroids thinks he's the snowflake who has mastered gear but experience will learn ya real hard. It doesn't end up that way. I'm sure there are exceptions, but that only proves the principle. Best you can do is use it for a short time, since long term usage is what really gets you (although many of the men I've known tend to use it far longer than they anticipated).

Do what you do dude. But I'd rather live for 100 years still strong and win the race as a slow and steady (but more durable) turtle than take off and burn out like a rabbit.

Everyone is welcome to make a deal with the devil, but he's going to take his pound of flesh eventually.

The majority of people I skype need to be looked in the face and told to stop drinking alcohol and soda. The skinny ones need to be told to eat more healthy food maybe go to an all you can eat sushi place from time to time. Also there are people in serious depressions who need help having their outlook adjusted.

So yes none of the people above should use hormones and a lot of my time is spent discouraging them. As for creatine, no fap, Vitamin D thats all shit. You can get all of those things from dietary sources and the absorption will be much better. What does have amazing absorption is vitamin b12 shots

As for freemium model. I honestly dont know. I use my skype calls to guage my audience and find professionals from my projects. My skype contacts help me proof and brainstorm posts as well as other ventures. So to lump me into the same category as internet diet gurus is completely unfair.

Finally I am in the process of selling Alpha shirts proven to increase you're alpha points buy 15%. Wearing my apparel is definitely cheating so feel free to complain about that.

Sadly I'm pretty sure all that holistic stuff is garbage. If there was actually something out there that measurably boosted testosterone (that isn't steroids obviously) it would be as well known as creatine (probably even more so). People would be shouting from the roof tops about it.

[–]Senior Contributor: "The Court Jester"GayLubeOil0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

All the holistic stuff is garbage it probably puts a strain on your kidneys

[–]1RPB11 point2 points3 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I beg to differ. That's unsubstantiated speculation at best.

Even if you could objectively prove that Royal Jelly for example harms your kidneys, which is non-toxic to humans, that argument makes no sense coming from you when just yesterday you were saying "Fuck safety" while referencing The Real.

'Holistic' (a charged word) techniques by their very nature trigger the body's own mechanisms in order to achieve a desired effect rather than artificially forcing it beyond the physiological "safeties" nature has built into us.

It's the difference between secreting adrenaline using anger and fear, or pumping epinephrine into yourself via IV drip. Too much of a good thing if everything is working properly.

Indeed. Let's face the music: GLO is building up his clientele and fanbase. In order to maintain his status for the blind hero worshippers, he needs to deliver results quickly with as little work as possible. Get people to like you, give em a taste of something sweet and they'll take your word (in this case, books) as gospel. Pushing silver bullets for the uninitiated. Given the rate at which steroids 'work', it would build his credibility and he can go "See? I told ya it would work! Now buy my shit!"

The guys he's targeting want a quick fix to their problems rather than having to grind it out and make disciplined decisions. While I can respect making money off of idiots, steroid advocacy is damn irresponsible.

Anyone who wants to argue the virtues of exogenous testosterone supplementation is either willfully ignorant or trying to sell you something.

[–]BobSagetTheFaget5 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

The funny thing is that most of what GLO preaches is factually very flawed or incorrect. He's a pill popping steroid user who's trying to monetize off of betas. I don't blame him for trying to monetize off of TRP, but he's going about it all wrong by pushing for steroid use every fucking time, but I'm not too worried either way since his possible client base is going to be very limited, and likely not very lucrative. The funny thing is that the type of guys who think testosterone supplementation will solve their problems are probably lazy sedentary guys, and will probably stop using it after some time too because honestly – how likely is someone who is already lazy going to be injecting T into their ass for the next 40-60 years of their life? LOL.

In general, e-fitness guru businesses tend to not be very economically viable in the medium to long term imo.

IMO, someone worth listening to is Lyle McDonald or Martin Berkhan. Martin Berkhan of leangains.com who maintains a 5-8% BF year long, is a natural lifter, doesn't need/use testosterone boosters, and is a former fatty himself.

[–]1aguy011 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Good information, but low carb diets are bad for testosterone and Thyroid hormone. Also, low fat diets are bad for testosterone. A balanced diet is optimum for health. Low carb can accelerate weight loss, but it should only be done in the short term, and only in individuals who have healthy Thyroids that keep their basal body temperature above 98 degrees all day long.

Also want to re-emphasize the fact that it is surprisingly easy to overtrain yourself, and if you lift and aren't getting morning wood that's the first place to start.

Check out the Minnesota Starvation Experiment.

TL;DR people in the 1940's voluntarily starved themselves on a 1600 calorie diet (yes that's starvation) to learn more about rehabilitating holocaust survivors. They found that your life is fucked when you maintain a calorie deficit (depression, anxiety, hair loss, cold all the time, lazy, can't focus, etc... sounds a lot like low T / Thyroid eh?). Then they rehabilitated them by allowing them to eat to satiety.

The result is the most important finding on obesity ever. When left to refeed the participants chose to eat an average of 4000 calories a day for 6 months - the same amount of time they starved for - before they naturally returned to eating normal levels of calories.

Their bodyfat increased to their starting weight, and then increased by about the exact same amount that they lost OVER their original starting weight. Eventually, after about 6 months their weight began to fall off, even while eating as much as they desired, and eventually it returned to normal.

The reality is most fat people have a history of failed dieting and binging/starving and end up fatter each time because their body thinks it's dyng and they never give it the time to recover. Other factors like environmental endocrine disruptors and PUFAs play a role as well, and the people were refeeding on whole foods not the processed bullshit of today, but for the most part obesity is caused by not eating enough.

[–]1RPB10 points1 point2 points 11 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

for the most part obesity is caused by not eating enough.

Technically.

The problem isn't that people these days aren't necessarily eating enough (they eat plenty in terms of calories and raw volume), the problem is that the nutritionally devoid garbage they eat barely qualifies as food.

The body doesn't treat 100 calories of Captain Crunch the same as 100 calories of broccoli, and most people have a rudimentary understanding of nourishment and think it's merely "calories in vs calories out".

It is a combination of nutritional debt, empty calories, and endocrine disruption.

People are fat these days because they're lazy hedonists guzzling booze and sugar instead of water and eating McDonald's/microwaveables instead of cooking their damn selves.

I agree that they need to eat more, but of the right things.

[–]1aguy010 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Indeed. People don't swell up like they do in modern times without the help of xenoestrogens and inflammation, but there have been numerous studies showing that overweight people consume fewer calories than normal weight people. Calorie restriction for weight loss wasn't a thing until late in the 1900's.

Calorie restriction invokes an ancient survival response that tells the body to store everything it can as fat, eat the muscle for energy, and reduce metabolic processes at the same time. Calorie deprivation primes the body for obesity. A recovering dieter eating 2500 calories a day is putting a lot of that into fat. A normal person eating 2500 calories a day is using all of it for energy.

Are you a doctor? I mean, I'm sure you are, after just telling someone else off about giving medical advice when they weren't a doctor.

And as a doctor, I'm sure you know better than to recommend eating "a lot of saturated fats."

I'm also sure you know the research on nightly zinc is marginal at best, with no double-blind placebo controlled trials on the books.

And I'm sure you know that the jury is still very much out on T therapy causing heart disease.

And AS SUPER-ULTRA-DOCTOR-BRO, I'm sure you know that at the end of the day the patient can make whatever decisions he wants to make, given that he has been thoroughly informed about benefits and risks of therapy. I'm sure you learned about patient autonomy in med school.

And I'm sure you know how to critique research. Likewise I'm sure you realize that your first reference is one anecdote littered with poor studies that no one in medicine would put any value in. I'm sure you even realized up front that the disclaimer states

I’m not a doctor or a medical expert. I’m a guy with a law degree he’s never used who blogs about manliness. What I’m about to share shouldn’t be taken as a substitute for qualified medical expertise.

I'm sure you sent this guy an angry e-mail about giving medical advice when not being a doctor, just like I'm sure you know having a disclaimer doesn't really change that fact.

And being the astute expert you are, I'm sure you realize that half the items in your second reference lack any backing studies.

Since you're an educated medical doctor, I'm sure you can recognize broscience when you see it. You did a really great job of satirizing it with this post. You're going to be a great medical professional.

But I do have my B.S./M.S. in Molecular Biology

No shit! Me too.

got into medical school with a 38 MCAT, 10 published articles, if that means anything

Sure it does. It means you micropipetted and PCRed for a PI who was a publication machine. And that you learned your organic chemistry and college physics really well, which has proven to be useless knowledge when it comes to treating patients. In fact there's a lot of talk of getting rid of orgo from the premed curriculum for that very reason.

Far as I can tell, GLO preaches going to a testosterone clinic. That's night and day from "taking steroids."

This is just patently false.

See, this is where shit is about to get awkward for you. I know I'm just a "lowly third year" and all, but they do tend to inundate us bottom-feeders with tsunami of medical knowledge, much of which is current.

Here is an article reporting on a group of doctors begging JAMA to retract their testosterone study The urologist who is the head letter writer said the JAMA study, "contradicts decades of findings." Hm.

But wait. I know what your thinking. Financial ties, shady stuff right? Wrong. Twent-five international societies also joined the cause of getting that paper retracted.

My statement -the one that was 'patently false'- was that there was still large controversy about T therapy. And there is. FDA requires a warning label. Just like for estrogen therapy. But it's not banned.

I'm not going to argue that sat fat intake has nothing to do with T levels. It's a fine paper you cited and probably has merit. I'm arguing that it's reckless to recommend people eat "a lot of saturated fat." You're so concerned about side effects of testosterone, yet you make that recommendation? Where is your head at?

You keep on saying that, and throwing around words you learned in some 1st year introductory course.

Aw. What were the big words that scared you? Was it "double blind placebo controlled study?" Or "patient autonomy" (the very parchment that the societal contract between physician and patients is written on)? Or was it "critique?" I know, it's got a q in it. Weird. Can't see to find anything else in there, though.

Well look. I'm glad that you felt confident enough to turn your nose up at the field of medicine to find your riches elsewhere. But just remember that since you did that, you're no longer welcome in the club. You don't belong here anymore.

Med school teachings are completely ignorant when it comes to anything related to nutrition, exercise, supplements, metabolism, and most things that don't require prescriptions or expensive procedures.

[–]Antibuddy-2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Maybe. But what we do learn is how to evaluate scientific evidence. We learn the mechanism by which we determine when we should recommend OTC therapies and alternatives/herbals, when we should remain silent, and when we should flat-out call bullshit. Most often, the statement to the patient goes something like, "Sure, go ahead with your weird mumbo-jumbo, but also do the medical treatments at the same time," just more tactfully put.

You are 100% dead wrong on metabolism though. Most first year curricula include an intensive biochemistry course. I could tell you every single enzyme (that we know of) that needs copper as a co-factor, for example. Or zinc.1 What you learn in practice is that the theory doesn't matter. Outcome is God. That's it. We don't care if treatment A increased molecular parameter X. Pharmaceutical companies like to talk like that about their drugs hoping you'll connect the dots and assume it will fix people or help them. They do that when they don't have outcome-based studies to cite. For example, did you know that supplementation of testosterone in men who do have bona-fide low T has never been shown to decrease depression measures, despite bringing the T number to a nice healthy range? Interesting, right?

Treat the patient, not the number. That's what we get taught in med school.

1 BTW, did you know that oversupplementation with zinc can block the absorption of iron, and has actually caused people to become anemic? Things broscience never taught us.

[–]1aguy010 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Doctors are notorious for ignoring dietary and lifestyle factors in patient diagnoses. That is why they have no idea about metabolism. If you have low metabolism you need to eat more carbs and fats in 99% of cases. Instead the doctor will prescribe you unnatural T and Thyroid replacements. Complete ignorance.

There's a red pill for everything and the one for medicine is huge.

[–]Antibuddy0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

The only reason a good doctor will prescribe thyroid hormone is if you have hypothyroid symptoms AND the lab level comes back low. But I'd love to see where you're getting the 99% number from. And no, I don't need a citation that says 99% specifically because I know what you're getting at. But what you're saying is more complicated than you think. How do you know who has "low" metabolism? Do you even know how we actually calculate someone's BMR, in real life? And what have you read that says a low BMR is treated by increasing the caloric share of fats and carbohydrates? I bet nothing, because I already know the answer.

So you're right, there is a lot of ignorance. But it's mostly on the side of the people who spend a few days Googling and think they know more than modern medicine.

[–]1aguy010 points1 point2 points 11 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

And what have you read that says a low BMR is treated by increasing the caloric share of fats and carbohydrates?

In 'established' medical reviews? Nothing. In real life observational studies? There is a large amount of information showing that BMR is intimately related to calorie consumption. Ever hear of the Minnesota Starvation Experiment? 'Mainstream medicine' is completely owned by special interests, the science is all rigged, especially when it comes to diet. Remember how they taught med students saturated fat causes heart disease? Or salt causes high blood pressure, so minimize salt? Or grains are the healthiest thing you can eat, and eat lots of high Omega-6 PUFA vegetable oil?

Relying on peer reviewed medical studies is blue pill shit. There is a huge red pill for the medical field and you are still choking on it.

Relying on peer reviewed medical studies is blue pill shit.

That's got to be the stupidest thing I've ever heard. You sound like an entitled little shit, standing on the shoulders of the intellectual giants that came before us, acting like that's how tall you actually are.

Yep grain lobbyists are smart guys.

Where do people even get the juice from? I talked to my doctor about it and he was super hesitant about giving it. How do you get the good stuff while avoiding shady homebrews?

[–]rztzz3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Another (safer) way to boost T is to only ejaculate once per week.

It hasn't been proven in a large study (who is going to fund that study?) but it really works for me. By day 4 I've got more energy, aggression, and sex drive through the roof.

[–]1003rp0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Do you only have sex once a week then?

[–]TheThingsIThink 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I believe the point would be to only have sex. No beating off

[–]1003rp0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I was asking for clarification. Does only ejaculating once a week increase testosterone mean that not having sex increases testosterone? Or is the point to limit ejaculation by only ejaculating when you have Sex

[–]1RPB11 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ejaculation doesn't lower serum T levels, but it does sharply reduce the androgen receptors that control your sensitivity to testosterone. If you abstain from ejaculation, on the 7th day your testosterone levels spike before returning to normal.

There's literature on this so go check it out. But if you're getting laid on the regular, abstaining from ejaculation not only takes tantric levels of self control but in my experience women get offended if you don't cum.

[–]TheThingsIThink 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I would prefer the later.

But

Researchers found that abstaining from ejaculation for six days had no impact on serum testosterone levels. On the seventh day, serum testosterone levels peaked to 145.7% of baseline, and then declined rapidly on the eighth day.

its not a big deal

It actually might be for some. Test can ruin your hairline/ speed up the balding. Managing the side effects with fin/dutasteride might be a pain in the ass if you go blast and cruise for example.

Guess some guys here show their true colors and reveal they have no fucking clue about lifting. Let them buy natty test booster, supports the industry at least.

I swear to fucking god. Every bodybuilder, fitness personality and youtube natty is taking shit. Im surprised by the level of butthurt. All im doing is helping people out on skype for free and selling professionally designed high quality T shirts for $19. But I guess that makes me literally Hitler.

Gotta remember GLO, most of Reddit is young, millenial, and raised on liberal, Marxist, anti-capitalist propaganda from kindergarten through their college indoctrination. They absolutely hate the idea of anybody capitalizing on anything. They think the world runs on magic gnomes who built and maintain everything around them in exchange for cuddly smiles, not evil money.

[–]Emporian 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Im surprised by the level of butthurt.

So am I actually. TRP just unplugs men from the dating market matrix, but there is also a lot of misconception about the sports world.

I know for certain, that a very famous german YouTuber, who claims to be a lifetime natty, at least takes HGH. Hell there are guides how to cheat on drug tests in crossfuckingfit. You can buy fake penises on Amazon, so you can piss out of them if you're getting drug tested.

This is another matrix, steroids are prevalent in every sport. Hell even e-sports, there are reports that famous players take Ritalin/Aderall to increase their focus.

Go think of an famous athlete. On roids. 100%. Christian Bale, an actor, roided. Messi? HGH, since he was a child. Derrick Rose? Steroids decrease recovery time, so don't tell me that they don't use them. NBA is about millions. Sports is about billions, in order to be the best, better roid up.

This is not to advocate roid use, just an example how good athletes and their coaches are, to cover up their roid use. And if they do it safely, without any visble or heavy consequences, everyone can.

[–]1London-Bananas6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You just go this of /fit/ didn't you?

Anyways, as people in that thread pointed out, there's a lot of factors in there. LTRd guys often skip workouts more often ("why can't you just stay at home?", or if that doesn't work to lock him "I can be your exercise ;)") and eat shittier foods.

[–]throwaway-aa22 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Honestly I don't think anyone thinks the moment you realize you're in a LTR, just that alone makes your testosterone go down. It's not the sex, it's the nature of the relationship (i.e. you get lazy, no time to do things that build testosterone) and also the type of people who naturally can only get into a LTR that are the reason for the lower testosterone.

[–]1RPB11 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I suspect it's a combination of lifestyle choices made during the LTR, stress, visual cues and pheromones that contribute to it. For example a crying woman tends to reduce testosterone.

Perhaps it's nature's way of ensuring our protective instincts work properly. If women weren't capable of dropping our T levels (and all the corresponding behaviors linked to high T), we'd behave very differently as a gender toward women (and children for that matter) if they weren't able to take some of the steam out of our rage-balloons.

[–]Jimmyturbo9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

This could explain some things. I just got out of a 3 year relationship, about 3 months ago. I had been plateauing at around 200kg deadlifts for nearly a year, last week I hit 220kg for 2 reps. Coincidence? I think not.

Oh the works, i just got out of a mental hospital 2 months ago, to which I stayed in for 4 weeks, so diet and sleep were on somewhat of a lower standard, same with training as they didn't have the facilities (2 days a week upper/lower split). Once I got home I've been on a surplus of about 500 kcal and training 5 days a week. There is a definite reason for my getting stronger, just that the breakdown of relationship turned out to be a very good thing for my self esteem and motivation.

20% average reduction is significant. Presume the prime candidate is stress. Stress created by women is a significant drain.

[–]sigmayogi8 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Stress and lack of working out too. Complacent behavior since "I won her" mentality sets in.

[–]Soriq2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nature is very "common sense" when it comes to hormones. Be it babies, women, losing competitions, or basically any lifestyle that would "benefit" a reduction in testosterone will lower testosterone

[–]panzergling2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I know I won't be the first to say it, but it's obvious the higher testosterone guys would avoiding relationships, especially when they're in mothafuckin hahvahd.

[–]Subtletorious2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This data implies two possible and not mutually contradictory explanations.

1) Lower testestorone men are more likely to settle down and nest in a monogomous relationship

2) The act of finding a compatible mate lowers need to compete in the sexual market place and the male body conserves resources by lowering T production. Perhaps using an oxytocin feedback system.

[–]Squeezymypenisy1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's one study. Interesting, but it isn't law yet.

[–]The_Ralph1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Meh. Depends. The study was on 122 Harvard business school students. That group likely has lower T levels to begin with. They did NOT study men in what I would consider a LTR; that is, men in their 30s, 40s, and 50s.

Take this study's findings for what it is: a limited view on a limited sample.

Go to the gym. Lift but also walk/run and swim and bike and row.

Be yourself. Discover yourself.

[–]frankgold1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Wasn't that obvious? AF/BB? They conducted a study for that? lol

[–]LewisSkolnick2 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

It's because we are supposed to be raising children - thus our bodies are designed to keep our eyes from wandering during LTR's.

Everybody has LTR's these days without getting married or having kids ... so what you end up with is 9/10 of these guys turning into softer cuck versions of their original selves.

[–]ghaenrynquau0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Testosterone#Adult

Men's lowers, women's rises. But it comes back after being in the relationship for a longer time. Just the initial moment of starting a relationship, a family, lowers T.

"However, it is suggested that after the "honeymoon phase" ends—about one to three years into a relationship—this change in testosterone levels is no longer apparent.[31] "

[–]NataliyaKochergova 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Maybe it's programmed. So the man would slow down long enough to help take care of the resulting baby/toddler. Just a thought :)

[–]1aguy010 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't think this has to do with an LTR lowering T. Guys with high T tend to be better looking, have more muscle and less fat, deeper voices, a more naturally attractive personality that exhibits risk taking behavior and DGAF attitude, more confidence, and probably bigger dicks.

In other words, betas bucks, alpha fucks.

[–]NeoreactionSafe0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Since prostate cancer increases with testosterone levels one would project that married men or men in relationships have lower levels of prostate cancer.

I wonder if this is a fact...

Imagine the new Feminist ploy:

"You have to marry us or you will get prostate cancer."
