TRP is focused on intergender dynamics. The "matrix" in the red pill metaphor is the feminine imperative, the "pretty lies" about women that we tell ourselves.

Gay guys don't have anything to do with it.

My personal stance on teh gays is a mixture of approval and envy. Approval, because every guy who prefers cock to pussy is a guy I'm not competing with. Envy because gay guys don't have to put up with female bullshit to get laid.

Believe me, if I could somehow reprogram myself to be gay, I would. My body type and lifestyle would put me squarely in the "bear" subculture, and I could enjoy a carefree life of twink blowjobs. But twinks don't pass the boner test for me. Bitches do. C'est la vie.

We have a few gay subscribers who have posted here in the past. They've made threads and got really well thought out replies. Do a quick search and you might find them. Most of their topics involve confirming drama from women.

TRP isn't just about picking up women. A lot of it focused on self improvement. There's something to help everyone here. You might have better luck looking at r/RedPillWomen to see what they think.

Being gay and being a part of TRP aren't mutually exclusive, even a little bit. The sexual strategies discussed here might not apply to gay men, but there's no reason why homosexuals can't accept the viewpoints and evidence displayed here, for the sheer fun and interest of it, and also to deal with women in their non-sexual lives.

I'll respond to your points the best I can (as a straight man).

If you're gay, you're not targeting women, so do many of the theories of hypergamy, etc. not apply?

I'm not sure that they don't apply, but they definitely apply a LOT less. Men are visually driven. Gay men are no different. As far as appreciating the human body in a sexual manner, they're pretty much like straight men, except attracted to men.

Since they're so visually and sexually oriented, it follows that wishy washy criteria like hypergamy are far less prevalent amongst gay men than women. The only thing that might pose a problem here are the "bottom" gays, but I'm knowledgeable enough to know the differing patterns of attractiveness amongst top/bottom/switch gays. I'm imagining that even among the bottom (feminine) gays, sex weighs in much more heavily than hypergamy, if hypergamy even exists.

Alpha/Beta

I think the alpha/beta dichotomy doesn't work quite as well in the gay community, because there's no limiting factor.

With heterosexuals, women are the limiting factor for reproduction, and hence women are more sexually valuable, men compete for them, and we get hierarchies of sexual success like alpha and beta.

With homosexuals....there's nothing driving selection. Homosexuality is a very aberrant behavior for a male (and I mean that without any offense to gays), as it serves no reproductive purpose, and guys are always horny, all the time, so everyone has sex. Nothing is limiting sex.

Heterosexual couples are like competitions with clear winners and losers. (alpha/beta)

Homosexual couples are like those competitions where everyone gets a prize. "Alpha/beta" doesn't matter much, and if it does, it matters a lot less than looks.

Long term relationships

Like I said before, gay men have no limiting factor to their sexual exploits. Thus, they get a SHITTON more access to sex than your average straight man. This is certainly why HIV and other STD rates tend to be higher among gays (again, I don't mean this offensively), and part of why gays long term couple with each other far less than heterosexuals.

TL;DR

  1. Theories of hypergamy basically don't apply, as there are no women.

  2. Alpha/beta don't exist in the gay world in a way analogous to the straight world.

  3. Gays have far less incentive to pursue long term relationships due to ample availability of sex.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

To expand upon the last point with long term relationships. Gay culture and acceptance is a ridiculously modern idea. In my life, in the US, it has gone from illegal in some states, banned from the military, no legal protects to legal and recognized marriages in many states, legal benefits to same-sex military partners, and protected statues. The pace of the issue changing is changing a lot faster then every other rights movement in history. The being said, a lot of people still exist that existed in an era where homosexuals were culturally and legally prosecuted and thus LTR really could not form. It is not that gay man are astronomically more sexually loose then straight men it is that their culture has not fully adapted to the idea that they can form long term relationships.

[–]through_a_ways 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

it is that their culture has not fully adapted to the idea that they can form long term relationships.

This may be a factor, but there's absolutely no way you can deny that gay men have far more sex than straight men. Gay men have way more sex. It's why they have higher rates of STDs, and part of why they don't LTR as often.

It's exactly what anyone would expect, given the reproductive matchup of a male system with another male system.

Male + female system (hetero) means you're hitting a "sex bottleneck" with the female, where you don't have sex as often as you physically could.

[–]Hajimotto 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

As far as STIs rates, these links, 1, 2, 3, all seem to agree that rate of sexual activity in not enough of a difference to fully explain the rates of STI rates in gay men. Note: These were the first few results in google when I typed in "Rates of intercourse Across Sexuality." This should not be considered an in depth analysis by any measure.

[–]through_a_ways 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

However, according to two large population surveys, the majority of gay men had similar numbers of unprotected sexual partners annually as straight men and women.

To me, this says: 60% of gay men were on par with straight men and women, while 40% of gay men had a whole lot more unprotected sex.

But you're right, it's not all due to sexual partner count, as the prevalence of anal sex also makes HIV much easier to spread.

[–]BloodRoseTRP 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

TRP originated from "seeing the truth" in interactions. Whilst on the surface we are heavily concerned with male to female sexualstrategy, we can apply red pill theory to all aspects of our lives, sexual or not, since sexual strategy is only a manifestation, albeit a powerful one, of something deeper inherent to human nature.

So to answer your question, yes, they can and should apply TRP. However, they will need to tailor that advice a bit more to suit their own situations

[–]ProjectWheee 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I've seen some gays post on here claiming that it works for them. I imagine that they have to modify a lot of the ideas, but I don't believe the two are exclusive. The can still use TRP to increase their SMV.

[–]Hajimotto 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Gay here, what he said mostly. The only thing is almost all of the ideas apply to some extent. I might never have to worry about sleeping with a women, but I have to worry about sleeping with someone. I might not have to worry about hitting on a women, but I have to worry about hitting on someone. You get the gist. Also, more game and SMV is always good thing.

[–]ProjectWheee 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

OMG, I was right? Does this make me an honorary gay?!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]CptDefB 8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

/u/frequentlywrong is great name, he also has a great point.

To directly answer the question, they're not mutually exclusive.

Q1: They still apply. Gay guys fuck even more shamelessly than women do.

Q2: Everyone has Alpha/Beta in them. LGBT lifestyle has power dynamics too.

Q3: LTRs are not frowned upon here. LTRs are always a constant power struggle... unless the woman chooses calm waters and a more productive partnership. This power struggle can happen in the LGBT community too. Topping from the bottom, for example.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Hey, TRPs. I don't agree with everything written here, being a woman and everything

nobody gives a shit, just write whatever you want to write and thats that.

Is being gay and being a member of TRP mutually exclusive?

the only way it would be mutually exclusive is if TRP was a sexual oriantation.

If you're gay, you're not targeting women, so do many of the theories of hypergamy, etc. not apply?

gay or not, women are still hypergamous, are they not? so why wouldnt it apply? gay men still have to interact with women.

[–]peoplesuck357 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Generally speaking, gay guys don't need much help in the dating department. You could be overweight and autistic and still get laid pretty easily if you wanted to, just not by the ideal guy I'd imagine. Men understand men for the most part so there's no red pill to be swallowed.

There was one gay gentleman here who posted about how he felt sympathy for straight men. He went into detail about his experience with faghags treating him like an accessory and not a person. He was very aware of how solipsistic and narcissistic the typical modern woman can be.

[–]TRP VanguardWhisper 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't agree with everything written here, being a woman and everything,

No one cares what you are. This is the internet.

Is being gay and being a member of TRP mutually exclusive?

Okay, we do care that you're too lazy or dim to use the search bar. This has been asked and answered.

[–]Endorsed ContributorOccamsUsername 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Long term relationships aren't so much frowned on as they are a poor means for most men to meet their needs. Those who decide to spin plates want access to sex without too much emotional, temporal, or financial investment.

[–]FugitiveAlpha 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Remember, the definition of a gay male is a guy who's attracted to GUYS. If you take out "tranny chasers" and the like, being attracting to masculinity is the same thing that happens with women. Therefore much of this would be the same.

[–]Hajimotto 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I believe I disagree with you, however, could you expand upon that idea?

[–]da-way 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Gay men like other men therefore, presumably, masculinity is attractive to them. TRP has many advises on how to become a more masculine man. Ergo, many facets of TRP should applicable for gay men as well.

[–]Hajimotto 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I was not sure if he meant that or if he meant that gay men are basically women so they do not need red pill. I agree with the former and reject the later.

[–]da-way 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I see what you mean now that i reread top comment.

Gay men are just that, gay MEN. So by that simple fact we can assume they are not like women. So we seem to be in agreement. How uninspired of us :)

[–]FugitiveAlpha 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I completely agree that a gay mans attraction to another man may be different than a woman's attraction to a man. That said, people who are attracted to masculinity are attracted to masculinity. A gay mans mind may or may not work completely differently than that of a woman (probably has more to do with the individual) , however, appearing and acting masculine is what it is.

For instance, we've all known women that act like dudes, even if they dress like women, and we know men that act like women, so that isnt a sexual orientation issue. The gay dudes that like masculine men generally seem to like the same sort of look that many women are after.

PUA is all about pickup, and in that realm there is probably more difference with gay men that like masculine men than women (though i suspect some similarities). TRP, for a large extent, is about bettering yourself. How to act and look more masculine, how to be confident (confidence is attractive to most people in most genders), how to be more successful, etc. Much of this would be generally universal, personal traits that make someone fun to be around dont have to be about sex, but they still make the person attractive to an extent.

[–]RedSunBlue 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

being attracting to masculinity is the same thing that happens with women.

Except that they're not women, so the attraction isn't the same.

[–]urbanassthetic 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

As a gay guy I can say TRP is still valuable as I still interact with women, and it honestly has helped me to understand them better and I can still apply what I learn to interacting with them at work. In regards to your questions,

  1. Hypergamy isn't a thing in gay relationships. Gay men once they choose to commit to a long term relationship have lower rates of "divorce" or breaking up or whatever compared to to straight relationships, or lesbian relationships, it's been studied. Also open relationships are WAY more common with us.

  2. No, Alpha gay guys pursue other Alpha gay guys for Long Term Relationships, and when they're single have sex with any guy Alpha or Beta they find attractive. It's a completely different sexual market.

  3. For LTRs Alphas are gonna go for other Alphas, Betas will settle for Betas. Any LTR with 2 men is going to have a power struggle, Alpha, Beta whatever.

[permanently deleted]

[–]urbanassthetic 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Since there's no real roadmap for gay relationships, I think there's more power struggles, and more communication issues, especially in new relationships. In Alpha/Alpha gay relationships guys need to learn to compromise and take on some Beta traits every now and then. TRP acknowledges even in straight long term relationships you have to have SOME Beta traits to make it work.

[–]RobBobGlove 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

TRP doesn't have a membership, it's not a club. There are no 10 commandments everyone agrees on before "joining". It's a place where ideas are discussed, take what you need, test it out and discard the rest.

TL;DR: let me borrow this phrase from 4chan, lurk moar

[–]RedSunBlue 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Use the goddamn search bar.

This question has been addressed ad nauseam.

[–]Senior Contributor: "The Court Jester"GayLubeOil 9 points10 points11 points 12 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

First off, go fuck yourself. No one cares that you're a woman on the internet. We cant fuck you over the internet so we don't care what your gender is. If you want to ask a question about Gays do it without flashing your pussy.

That being said masculine gays are much better regarded than feminine gays, within the gay community. Many gay men cant stand feminine gays.

Lastly, Go Fuck Yourself, your a woman and information on gay dating preferences is not at all relevant to you.

In closing, Go Fuck Yourself, maybe even to gay porn because your so interested in the lives of homosexuals.

This happens periodically. OP's unnecessary disclosure of their (female) sex is a very reliable indicator that they are either seeking affirmation of their preconceptions or trolling.

Ponder, if you will, the ego-centrism required to enter a new community and attempt to "generate debate", having no basic prerequisite knowledge of that community. (Expectation of special treatment.)

[–]dontthreadlightly 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Wow, go fucking cry about it. So funny to see dudes like you on these threads thinking you're so alpha because you respond to every post from a woman with "go fuck yourself". TRP isn't about being an angry asshole for no reason. You look weak.

[–]scallopkid 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The only women who get that response are the ones who deserve it. It's just that that's most of them.

[–]ProjectWheee 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Na. He is right. It's weak as fuck to get so bitter that a woman posted that you need to expel the energy to tell her to go fuck herself. Makes him look like an emotional pussy.

[–]batfish55 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I could swear there was a post on here a few days ago about this topic.

It said something about gay bottoms/twinks basically being women. To paraphrase: What do women do? Make sure they look pretty, try to bag the most alpha dude. What do twinks do? Make sure they look pretty, try to bag the most alpha dude.

All other TRP rules apply.

[–]ArtilleryCamel 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Gay men are even more interested in defining human sexuality than straight men, so absolutely not. This is not the place to discuss gay rights though. You don't have to adopt the entire ideology to be a member here. Everyone here should have critical thinking skills and be able to make their own decisions, and you can pick and choose what posts apply to you that you want to incorporate in your life.

  1. Hypergamy is a female thing.

  2. Depends on what type of gay you are. Some prefer alpha on alpha relationships.

  3. I'm guessing you're talking about straight relationships here. A successful relationship usually has little question of who is in charge (the man). Women are always shit-testing their man and evaluating whether he is a leader worthy of a relationship with her. And no, you don't go for the beta guy. Every guy has alpha and beta characteristics, and a woman will want to start a relationship with an alpha and make him act beta only for her at a later point in the relationship.

[–]fiat_lux_ 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

From what I can see, most people don't see much use in this sub for gay men. Namely for two reasons:

One, most people here are straight and discuss intersex relationships.

Two, most people here probably don't even know where to begin. Gay relationships have too many intricacies that most here aren't prepared for. E.g. As a gay guy, your exes can hook up. This doesn't tend to happen to straight men unless they happened to have hooked up with a couple of bisexual girls. Also, while a straight guy might hide his interest for someone out of shyness or lack of confidence (betadom), until a gay guy comes out of the closet and is well-connected within an LGBT community he has a lot more pressure to keep quiet about his sexual interests. He could get called out. He could get disowned. A lot of real shit could come to pass.

Those are just a couple of the many reasons that even I can come up with (but have little experience dealing with).

However, I see it differently. There are deeper underlying philosophies supporting TRP that I can see working for gay guys too. My first introduction to some RP-like thinking actually came from a gay roommate who went through a jaw-dropping transformation. I don't know if it was meds, meditation, an epiphany, whatever, but between high school and college, he completely changed. Stopped giving a fuck. Came out of the closet. Became one of the most popular and loudest people at my college dorms.

It amazed me (and disgusted me too, at the time, because...): He could be as rude and inconsiderate as all Hell, and people would still love him. I owe a good chunk of my social life in college to him.

Think about many of the shaming that outcast males face. It's often sexual in nature. "Virgin". "Deviant". The social shaming against gay males is even more so, by nature, sexual.

Mentally getting over that hurdle is a shared struggle. Coming out of the closet for gays, I've always thought seemed like a big "fuck you" to social norms while embracing their sexuality for better or worse. Seems a lot like what many guys here are doing. If you ignore how this embracing of sexuality is actually implemented, there is some similarity there.

So an emphatic "No" from me. I don't think TRP and gay people are mutually exclusive. The big problem is that most people here are not gay, and seem very focused on the intersexual aspect, it's harder to frame things in a way that sounds relevant to gay men.

Your individual points:

1.

If you're gay, you're not targeting women, so do many of the theories of hypergamy, etc. not apply?

This is hypergamy: Hypergamy (colloquially referred to as "marrying up") is the act or practice of marrying someone of higher caste or status than oneself.

That's all it is. You'll notice that the wiki link even states that it's typically used by social scientists to refer to women marrying higher-status men. This isn't a forgone conclusion, but the results of various studies.

Here is one of them, which discusses the socioeconomic mobility of men vs women. Summarily, men are more likely to experience occupational mobility whereas women are more likely to experience marital mobility. They cause and compliment each other.

E.g. Men more likely to advance through occupation than women, so women play catchup by marrying up. Men see that women prefer to marry up, so they struggle to advance further. The cycle continues.

As per the article, like a free market, this ends up balancing out that both sexes end up having roughly equal chances of upwards socioeconomic mobility.

There's not enough to say which is causing the other to a greater degree.

There are many other ways to see hypergamy around the world. Check sex ratios of cosmopolitan metropolises around the world. Check estimated mail-order brides vs mail-order husbands. (Note, I'm not saying which gender is at "fault" for this or whether this is "fair". That is irrelevant right now.)

None of this makes sense from the context of gay relationships, and it would be significantly more difficult to get good stats for. How would we dichotomize gay men? Bears vs flamers? Where to even begin...

Intersex is a much easier study than intergender, and in turn easier than... intrasex.

So no, I don't think that in particular applies.

2.

Alpha/Beta. If you consider yourself to be an Alpha, do you have to pursue Betas?

No clue here. I do personally know some gay men who decry that there aren't enough manly gay men for them. IIRC, a couple bi guys in this sub talked about the same thing. That's about it.
