On a side note, there seems to be a divide in the male community on whether it's a good idea to flaunt your material possessions in the effort to snag hot women. If you're only sleeping with them, I don't see the problem, and young guys are notorious for being materialistic and try to snatch the hottest arm candy for any reason (relationship or otherwise) with whatever they can show off. However, trying to attract a female with such obvious gestures can only lead to bad things in my book, if you're looking for a relationship. This guy may have been one of those. You try to pull the ladies by flashing your possessions, you're just putting a target on your forehead.
