How do you veteran RP guys handle being sick?

Not very well, unfortunately. I think the best thing when sick is to retreat to a defensible position, fortify your defenses, and hunker down in your own private bunker until it passes.

I hate being mothered. When she does, it is awkward anyways.

So I shut down shit tests with a hard no. Not in the mood. Close the door, and consider me dead for a day.

Like a fucking Man. I may not be on the alpha offensive, but that doesn't mean I go full beta. Society would have you believe it is one or the other, but it isn't.

The degree to which I'm sick also plays a role in my response. Honestly, if I have a head cold and feel generally miserable I still go to work because I'm a Man and it's my job.

Your wife doesn't need another whiny baby in the house so keep your mouth shut and handle as much as you can. This way she feels like you are trying to get better instead of feeling obligated to nurse you back to health.

Keep your sense of humor. Don't make her sick.

In your specific situation the old wives tales are wrong. If you're not vomiting then reintroduce solids. Minimize dairy, nuts, spicy foods until you're feeling better. Sticking to liquids perpetuates the problem. It's solid theory backed by several studies.

Obviously not a Veteran - but I think I have always handled sick / injured well :

If I think I am dying, I will give myself one day to get through it. This is like shaking / backing coughing up a lung etc or 1 day post op unless its something very serious

After that, its do what I can with whatever meds I need on board. If she starts shit testing or whining because she has to do more or whatever, I kinda just look at her , smile, and try to do whatever was next on my list.

Usually this does result in more help from my wife. and no loss of status. At least thus far it hasn't in the short term sense

The trick is to not whine, pass shit tests about your disease too, and most importantly be ahead on alpha points before you get sick.

While I was not sick I very clearly set out the expectation that she will deal with everything and leave me the fuck alone while I'm really sick from now on. I've installed an exterior door lock on the spare bedroom. I bingewatch Prime shows in there and make her to take care of things till I'm better. The only two times in our marriage that my wife has been extremely abusive (once sexually, once mentally) were when I was seriously sick. She very clearly understands that a third strike in the marriage and I'm out.
