Here's what i do: Pay particular attention to passing shit tests in front of them. Let them see mom is a bundle of barely contained emotion and dad is a rock of control and amused mastery.

Also let them see you taking care of business (while mom just frets about it), getting things done (while mom takes a nap) and improving (while mom does fad diets and socializes).

Boys need to see that it's not just attitude but also the hard work behind it.

The most relevant one for RP is probably the Gender and Sex episodes, but the one relevant here is the Parental effect. It mentions effects including brothers with distinct personalities, and studies of adopted kids personalities being mostly independent of what the parents are like.

Depressing or freeing as it may be, as a parent, beyond having passed your genes and actually being there as a non-abusive parent, you may not actually have that much influence on your kids.

They apparently get more from their peers (hence two brothers picking up distinct personalities even though they are exposed to the same "nurture" from the parents).

Basically, do your best but don't fret too much about it, I would say.

Answer the following questions:

Are you a good alpha role model?
Do you do manly things with them?

That is all you can really do to teach them. If you have doubt about any one of those, then, work on that.

We are here because we didn't have good role models. It is our job to BE those role models for the future generation.
