I hate "buddy" too. It's usually used for those you consider lesser. I find myself asking, would you "buddy" someone like The Rock?

That's not always the case though. Some people use it innocently. I'll often respond with "chief" or "boss" and I think that subtlely gets the point across. I've seen people change when they hear me call them that.

You might not be as "asshole" and masculine as you think, and people may be calling you "buddy" because you're coming off as a tryhard.

I notice the people who call me buddy are usually people trying to hoist up their own egos.

It doesn’t bother me because I recognize this egocentric behavior in people pretty easily and shrug it off.

I never call people buddy, and I’ve noticed respectable, well developed men, refer to me and others as “sir” or as an equal.

I’m glad when someone tries to pull something like this. Because they willingly tell everyone how insecure and little they feel on the inside.

They’re basically admitting “You’re better than me. That makes me insecure. I’m going to patronize you so I don’t cry at night”

It might get on your nerves but you Can deal with it.

For them it’s their identity, they NEED it. Assume they are low value.

"Buddy" is what you call your girlfriend's younger brother as you're walking out of her room in the morning.

However, some people just say it on autopilot to everyone and have no ill intent, so don't go atomic on anyone without figuring out what the deal is.

I use "bro(s)" and "buddy(s)" interchangeably, especially with the guys I consider my good friends in an endearing way.

I don't see an issue with "buddy" unless it's someone I have no established relationship with.

I fucking hate it too. And its worse for me because I have a baby face. I'm 21 and had a 26 year old waiter call me Buddy and try to make cringy dad like jokes with me.
