Fit is more important than anything you wear. If you have a muscular body, you won't be able to show it off with really baggy clothes.

Being well dressed is most certainly something that raises your SMV. A tailored suit is very noticeable. Anyone can tell. You don't even need to know about brands or designer clothes. It just fits like nothing out there.

I like expensive clothes and shoes. But I refuse to wear designer clothing that has their logo all over the place. But give me an Armani and Boss getup any time over cheap stuff. And yes, it makes a huge difference.

It is not for everyone, but don't knock it until you've actually dressed truly well. And yes, dressing well is expensive. Otherwise, you're dressing decent.

Now, having said all that, age has a lot to do with it as well. A 25 year old can rock a pair of Levys better than a 50 yr old. As you age, you will find that spending that extra few hundred on an outfit is well worth it. One thing I should say to all those of you who are young now. Spend your money on shoes. Buy expensive. If you have to break them in, don't. Shoes should fit as comfortable on the first day as on the last day. Your feet will thank you when you grow older.

And by all mean do not doubt that women can't tell. They can, and they do.

In my opinion no. I wear 10 dollar shirts from tj Max and target. The only thing that matters is if they are in decent shape and fit properly. Fit is by far the most important.

It certainly does raise female SMV, and male probably too. In some venues more than in others.

Yes! It truly does. My reputation in college is "a gentleman" among women and a "pussy licker" which is an insult in my language among the boys (someone who get girls a lot. Hehe.. jealous BPs)

When a friend of mine asked them why I'm a "gentleman" they said because I dress like one (and talk and behave like one, for that matter)

Dressing isn't everything though. Also..! THE CLOTHES SHOULD FIT! Not small, not big.

And finally I strongly believe that a gentleman has a high SMV.

Just make sure your clothes are fitted. Ive noticed that a lady reacts more to well fit clothing. Plus if it make you feel good run it. Look good and feel good...cliche I know but works for me. Doesn’t have to be expensive just as long as you feel good in it. Iron your clothes as well!

Social cues will still vastly outweigh anything else, but without that it's important for a first impression.

Also recognize that dressing well is a huge spectrum of ideals and bullshit. If your clothes fit well and are appropriate for the occasion, you're dressed well.

Notice a lot more glancing from women when I go out in a suit compared to any other style of clothing. More respect from men, too. Just started dressing up though so not a lot of data.

Yes having quality well fitting clothing can greatly raise your smv.

This is how I do it...

First off... have great hygiene. I cant stress this enough. Most women love a man that is clean, smells good, and looks well put together.

I focus on low cost medium to high quality clothing made with fabrics that are co fortable and wear well (Im not a fan of nylon/synthetics unless its sportswear). If I find an item that I really like, I will buy duplicates if I can.

The key is to find what works for you, and keep it all in very good shape... its fine to wear ratty comfy old clothes for yard and car work and camping, but for going in public and feeling the best about your appearance, you want to know you look as good as you can.

Make sure you are wearing something with no holes, no rips, no stains, no missing buttons, no tattered cuffs, not too tight or too baggy... and if you can, have them tailored to fit.

A good fit can turn a well constructed but otherwise unflattering pair of pants into something that makes your body look so. much. better. It can make you look more fit, slimmer, and more proportionate than you actually are.

Have your nicer more upscale stuff, like oxford shirts and suits professionally cleaned and laundered (you should at least have one decent quality suit, charcole pin stripe is my go to... it works for everything froma wedding to a funeral to a job interview... but you have to take care of it properly) or learn how to iron, repair rips, adjust a hemline, and sew replacement buttons youself.

Ironing and sewing can be sort of a meditation if you do it right. Im very lucky that my Auntie taught me how to care for and repair clothing, and its a really valuable skill. Because I was broke but didnt want to look broke, I eventually taught myself how to tailor my own clothes, and I have done it with pants, shirts, vests, and one very challenging jacket... but if I dont have extra time, I like knowing that I can pay to have it done.

Dont spend a ton on clothes, just find decent quality at the lowest price. I have some shirts and pants from Walmart, but I wear them well and take care of them, so I always look sharp.

And finally, your shoes. You only need about 4 pair. I have about 7 pairs of shoes right now: a nice pair of lether flip flops, black and brown dress shoes, two pair of hiking boots, trainers, black steele toe boots, and cowboy boots. This is where Im willing to spend more for the highest quality I can afford. Shoes can last a very long time and wear beautifully if you take care of them. Ive had all of my shoes resoled and had the heels replaced many times. The cowboy boots are over ten years old, and they look great because I keep the leather treated, and they feel amazingly comfortable.

Plus, shitty shoes just look bad the same way shitty clothing looks lazy and sloppy.

That said, sometimes having lower smv in public is a blessing, and I will frequently dress down for this very reason. I enjoy feeling less visible and it helps me avoid the foids.
