Me and my friends came up with this one day when we were all at a mall, and my buddy was feeling a little down and out. We were discussing breaking boundaries between strangers, and it just didn't make sense to him that you could approach someone you don't know, and you wouldn't be insensitive for doing it.

So as we're walking down the hallway, I say "dude, watch this." I wait for a group of a few guys to walk by and enthusiastically say "Hey man, high five!" And he gets all amped and high fives me back.

I tell my friend "Look at that. How hard was that to do? It doesn't matter that I didn't know him before, it doesn't matter if I see him again. I want you to try now."

"...I dunno man, what if they don't want to high five?"

"Here, watch." I then go to high-five a group of girls with a total lack of enthusiasm, and they look at me like I'm a fool and keep walking. "Now what happened there? I second guessed and wasn't into it. Will I ever see them again? No. Does it matter anymore? No. So why not just go for it like you know it's going to work?"

My buddy tried to high-five about 4 or 5 people before someone finally high-fived him back. At first, he would get crushed. But then, as he became more determined to see one work out, he put more and more into it. Eventually, almost everyone he asked for a high-five gave him one because he was putting forth so much energy! We probably did this to at least 25 people that night.

He became so into it, that at the end of the night, he did a row of high-fives with about 7 or 8 people on his way out of the subway. Then while leaving the station, he was so in state that he talked to some girl to give her directions for 10 seconds, an because he was so fucking charismatic at this point, she gave him a kiss on the cheek for no reason!

It really proved to him that whatever energy you put out into the world, that energy will be reflected by those around you. He started out feeling awful and left feeling awesome, and his high-fives followed in suit. So I challenge those with AA, high-five a stranger, you never know what can happen! :)

TL;DR: high-fiving strangers is a great way to get in state. The more in state you are, the more you'll find people are willing to give high-fives. This is the EXACT same mentality you need to have with approaches!
