I’m a guy who never got girls, was introverted, depressed, and had social anxiety. Over the last few years I have changed all of that and in the process have noticed a lot of things about women, other guys, and myself. I am new to this sub-reddit but I think there are a few things I’ve noticed that could be helpful. I’ll start by just giving my opinion the dance floor.

I see so many guys playing the dance floor terribly wrong. Most guys tend to stand around the periphery of the dance floor like wallflowers, holding a drink, half-heartedly nodding to the beat of the music, and scanning the dance floor over and over. This will not work! I suspect these guys hope by being near dancing women that one of them will pull them over for a dance. Not going to happen. By doing this they are advertising that the only reason they are there is to prey on women.

The far better strategy is to actually dance and have fun. Instead of standing on the sidelines, move towards the center. Instead of half-heartedly nodding to the music, actually dance(you don’t need to know how to Salsa, or breakdance, just put your arms up and bounce around to the beat!). If you are with a guy friend, dance with him… Really, it is not homo. Obviously keep some distance but it just shows that you guys are fun and that is what girls are attracted to. You need to look like you are ALREADY having fun without the girls so they want to join your little party.

DO NOT approach a girl from behind. This is a threatening behavior to them and grosses them out. DO NOT walk around patrolling the dance floor. Just pick a good spot and girls will come and go as you dance. Interested ones will find you and make it easy for you to dance with them.

Usually when a girl wants to dance with you she’ll accidentally bump into your side a few times. If you want to test to see if it was intentional accidentally bump into her a few times. If she doesn’t move then turn your body towards her and move closer. In my experience it is better to make first contact by gently putting your hand on her side for a brief moment (but clearly intentional). If she didn’t want to dance she would definitely move away after that. From there just relax, you’ve got this.

Much of the discussion here focuses on eye contact and what to say to a girl. But most dance floors are going to be too loud to have a conversation. In my experience I’ve had better luck NOT making eye contact much with people on the dance floor. There is an assumption that guys on the floor are scanning for chicks, by being into your own grove and not overly looking around and making eye contact you are showing that you are of high value; you’re just here to dance. If you make eye contact too much without making a move, you may look like you’re too scared to make the move.

Lastly. The dance floor is the most meat market type place for meeting girls, so it is imperative that you look the best you can. Dress like an adult, do your hair however you like your hair to be, be yourself and have your own style but make sure you look exactly how you think you look best, nothing less. And have fun! Just my experience. Good Luck
