‘I have a boyfriend’ is a very direct way to tell the other person that they’re not interested. Contrary to what we see in movies, when you hear that, just bite the bullet and walk away. Respect people’s choices. Us cold approaching does not mean a response from a stranger is warranted. I don’t think anyone on this sub will tell you to continue pursuing someone even after you’ve received a ‘I’m not interested’ from that person. It’s a huge part of cold approaching, the best thing to do is to move on. Besides, I think having a conversation even with someone who has a boyfriend/girlfriend is still a great idea, it’s still a conversation you can learn from, it’s free conversation practice. Not every conversation has to end up in intimacy.

Cold approach is somtimes simply just about being the first person to go up to her in person and say hi that night, that week etc. All of the dating apps and DMs they have fades into noise.

She would never consider you on the apps, but now you're in front of her, you can show your wit, your humour, escalate physically with light touch...

Let's say you cold approach a woman, she says "I'm not interested" or "I have a boyfriend".

It means "fuck off" not "try harder". This is about basic human respect. Respecting consent. Respecting her boundaries. And not being a sexual harasser. It's the same as her swiping "no" on your Tinder profile.

You should try to find women who are neutral-to-positive on the approach. Then take that slight interest and build on it. Move on from the clearly disinterested women quickly. You have to be okay with rejection and not think you can win with everyone.

Here’s my unpopular take:

“I have a bf” is an overused line that girls throw all the time it’s like they even say it in their dreams lol.

I hold dearly to what Ross Jeffreys often says: Don’t really listen to what women say, but pay attention to what they respond to.

For example: How many times you heard women say “I don’t know what I want for dinner” but once you offer to take her to some places she refuses. That means she KNOWS what she wants, or at least what she doesn’t want, but she’s just not telling you. Or how they say they don’t care if you do this or that (ie: you hanging out with your guy friends), but once you do it they get mad.

“I have a bf” has also became a meme on social media. They say it to guys who offer help when their car broke down, or to the postman who delivers their mail, or to waiters who ask for their order in a restaurant.

Whenever I hear they say it to me, I just say some banters like:

I have a bf, too so?
wait are you thinking I wanna be your bf? Seriously?
tell me more about this imaginary bf of yours
i don’t see a ring in your finger
I’m just here to inform you about your car warranty
so when is he gonna propose?

In my experience 50-70% of the time they will smile, laugh, or blush. But if they keep insisting that “I have a bf” then yeah I’d walk away. The first one may be a shit test or a broken record, but if it’s repeated then take the L.

I’ve had dates from cold approach with girls who would have swiped left on me immediately on any dating app because I'm not a top-model and I know that physical appearance matters the most on dating apps, and you’re judged in a second. In real life you’re also judged instantly, but unlike online, where one swipe and you’re gone, IRL you still have plenty of chances to stay in the game and continue.

For example: you make a joke, she doesn’t react, but you’re still there and you can comment on her lack of reaction: "oh… you’re so serious. Do you want to scratch and bite me? Am I in danger around you? Look, I’m trembling…" - now, she might stay silent or give you cold eyes, which is fine, you can walk away like nothing happened, but most of the time you’ll get some kind of reaction ("no, I'm not like that"... or even better "you are not in danger") and you’re still in the game. Online, you don’t have this luxury.

'I have a boyfriend' is a shit-test, and probably one of the most common ones, if you don't even know how to pass that shit-test you aren't out there cold approaching or even pulling women.

In dating women use shit-test to assess a man’s mate value and social skills and decide whether he’s good enough for her, or not.

If you have good social skills you can continue a conversation after "I have a boyfriend" without flinching, if you don't it means you failed, I can personally say I have pulled many women that say "I have a boyfriend" but they still give you a number and that was just game.

I'm not sure why the responses on this subreddit have gotten so bad.
