I actually tend to do this and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It usually goes two ways:

I text her, we have mild to good conversation and then suddenly she just ignores me out the blue. Literally mid conversation. I never call them out on it, I just wait. Depending on their value to me (based on looks, chemistry etc) I'll give them ONE more text like a week later. If I get ignored again, I DO delete their number because I tend to forget who they are and may end up texting them again by accident, making myself look like a fool. Deleting their number confirms to myself that I'm finished with that particular girl.
If it's an app such as Snapchat this makes it easier. This is because even though you can delete them from Snapchat, they can still have you added and view all your awesome stories and contact you (if your settings allow it) when they're ready. If you've been ignored on snapchat at least two times (despite her pretending to be interested) I find this method works. Deleting her means you won't see her stories and won't feel the temptation to comment on her stuff, while she can still view your stories and get involved whenever she's ready.

I found the second approach works extremely well when this girl used to constantly ignore me or not offer up substantial conversation. Deleted her off snapchat, but she kept watching my stories. Months later I got a video from her in her underwear showing me the booty. I asked "why" and she said it was a "reminder of what you could have". I didn't necessarily entertain this idea too much because I'm kind of seeing someone else so she ended up instantly blocking me afterwards lmao. But still, I have a lot of confidence in both of these methods.

Of course there's always the chance that you'll never hear from the girl ever again, so just say to yourself "It is what it is" and find another one.

I think there are some caveats...for instance, I was planning on meeting up with a girl. She actually invited me out with her friends. Told me to head in town and she would tell me where they were (as they hadn't left yet). Well I get close to town, still no response from my last text. I send another one since I wasn't gonna sit in my car just waiting on the word, and she responds. I meet her, we have a little bit of chemistry, and I don't go home alone. I would say there are not rules to double texting. Every situation is different. There are, however, some questions you should ask before you do it. Will it make me look desperate? Do I need to do it? Etc etc etc

I feel like double texting can be okay if you have something to add...as long as it's truly coming from a secure mindset. Sometimes, these texting rules and other rules make dudes overthink stuff.
