Definitely recommend to confirm at least 24 hours before. But do it but in a way that doesn't allow them to flake.
By asking, "still on for tonight?" provides them the opportunity to come up with a last minute excuse and flake. Try more along the lines of.. "Hey looking forward to tonight, see you there at 7!", or "Just leaving work, see you shortly." "Reservation is at 7, meet you out front."
If you don't confirm that day it gives her reasonable doubt to think it's off or you got scared and didn't follow through and most likely she wont show up. Also it's just common courtesy as people value their time and want to know whats going on.

But the whole point of a date is to run game and build up that attraction. If your just expecting to have that before and her to be 100% into you from the get go that's pretty limiting.
Meh that's looking far to deep into it in my opinion. Saying it once in that context isn't a make or break.

Agree with touching bases the day before. Even if they don't intend on flaking, girls get distracted soooo easily. And then there is no consequence. Girls have lived their whole lives with a free pass of forgetting anything and then just kinda shrugging it off and "Tee Hee, I forgot....!" I've learned this.

I usually confirm the day before by saying something like "I'm planning to pick you up at x:xx. I'll call you before I leave". Then the next day I just follow through with the call.

Well yeah you confirm because its kinda awkward if you show up and she's not dressed and not going.

I always tell guys to confirm dates with me because I have a lot going on, and sometimes I get lost in my own world and don't pay attention to the time. Or sometimes I forget what day it is (for example, I was convinced all day today that it was Tuesday). Plus it's nice to hear from them and know they still want to see me. I'm really frustrating to text and I know that, so date confirmations are important to me.

I usually confirm plans if the girl doesn't confirm first, nothing wrong with that and no reason to try and seem "gamey" about it. My time is valuable and I want to make sure I'm not wasting it by getting stood up.

I don't. If she likes you , she'll show up.

You confirm when you setup the date. If she's going to flake then she's going to flake, so what? If a woman isn't interested then why do you want to waste your evening on her by trying to manipulate her or trick her into going out? Or maybe she is just a flaky person in general. Some people are like that, might as well find out now than later.
I have never in my entire life had a woman no-show, I think the latest I've ever had a woman cancel is several hours before. If you're having women cancel or no show frequently then you just aren't paying to their lack of interest when you're asking them out.
I also never confirm and sometimes they message me to confirm but most of the time they show when and where we agreed. I have no interest in being a woman's secretary. If she needs someone to remind her of her plans then she can hire someone. No woman ever forgot about a date they're excited about, so if she doesn't show she's just not interested and now you have the evening to go meet a woman who is.
