So this is Jeffy's commentary of 'Shame' (2011). The first time I saw this I was just glad a that a coach was doing an analysis of it at all, because I loved the film. But in thinking about it again I've realised that his interpretation of just one scene seemed terrible.

His analysis of this bar pick-up scene starts at 15:40 where two guys are out in a bar and end up chatting to women. As you'll see, when the boss approaches it's all too easy for Jeffy to point out that the girls react negatively, as if they were told to do so by the director! But Jeffy doesn't bother saying what it is that's so bad about the approach. He points out that the girl who did the last handshake didn't seem uninterested, but he ignores the fact that the second girl reacted positively. He's trying to shame this guy for the fact that the girls are "disgusted" by him, when we all know that reactions like this from women are largely out of our control. So what message is Jeffy really sending out to viewers here about approaching women? And then Jeffy says that he's gotten the same reaction from women but (wait for it), only because they were so sick of being approached by guys like the boss before the point in time that Jeffy approached!
What Owen of RSD used to always say, was that any guy gets 10 out of 10 for every approach, because who else would have the fucking balls to do that. Lets look at what the boss did right. He didn't hesitate; he went straight over when he saw her. He was honest... he said he didn't want "to beat around the bush". Maybe he got a little too excited but do we really need that pointed out? I'll say one thing anyway; I'd bet that the boss he far better at pick-up than the off-screen guy here with the nerdy voice, who agrees with (and parrots) everything Jeffy says!!
Following on from this Jeffy makes unusual point. If it's realistic that Brandon - just because he's not concerned about how he appears - could have "memorised" the eye colour of all of them in a dark setting, then he'd also probably know their shoe sizes if asked that too! If I badly wanted to have sex with some girl I saw, I'm not suddenly be able to memorise every detail about her. It doesn't make me Sherlock Holmes. The film director just put that in because it makes the movie good. We're not meant to read into it any more than that. There's actually nothing to be learned about game, from the fact Brandon happened to know their eye colours.
I also think Jeffy fails to point out - what is possibly - the only thing Brandon does do that's impressive. And that's at 17:29. Brandon doesn't flinch when the boss says "fuck off". His eyes remain fixed on the girl. Most of us would divert our eyes to the boss on hearing "fuck off". The boss gets completely ignored by Brandon here.
23:16 - Okay, we get it Jeffy, ha ha ha!
Later when Brandon is asked to dance, it's disappointing that Jeffy has no comment to make on why he declines. There's a lot to be said there. He does however talk about how Brandon watches the boss dance with the target. Either I'm wrong here, or Jeffy completely misinterprets Brandon's thoughts as the smile slowly disappears from his face. This is to show the audience that Brandon is an serious and lonely character, and this is depicted with the shot of him standing by the bar on his own while others are dancing. Okay, Brandon knows the boss won't end up fucking her, but this is to show that he doesn't know how to go after her. He's not trying to shadow lord! Shadow lording is something that anyone can do. It doesn't take courage. It's like saying to a girl "I don't have the gumption to approach you, but I'm going to try and show you that I notice what that guy is doing wrong". I would see this as a sign that Brandon isn't good at expressing himself... just in the same way when the co-workers first speaks to him (commenting about his sugar use), he just stares at her until she gets weirded out and walks away. He was obviously into that co-worker, as we later saw, but he didn't know how to express himself at the time.
30:21 - Jeffy makes another false conclusion here. We have no idea why they chose to have sex there. You can't just assume that the guy who was happy for this girl to walk out of his sight forever, all of a sudden isn't capable of waiting until they get home to the house. We didn't see any sign of Brandon being proactive with this girl so far, so why would we assume that the only time he was proactive was the time that was left off screen? Maybe it was more likely that she suggested to fuck there because she was living with others. Jeffy narration plays into this idea that Brandon has a whole load of mysterious tricks up his sleeve that he can use at any moment, and that for some reason he just didn't bother using such tactics back at the bar.
It's disappointing that Jeffy spends the whole time mocking the boss instead of talking about what's so good about Brandon. It's as if Jeffy thinks he's the only one that realises the boss is an idiot when watching the film just because he's a PUA coach! He completely ignores the fact that Brandon wouldn't have even met these girls if it wasn't for the boss. Also, it's all well and good for a PUA coach to do such an analysis of a movie, but I'd liked to have heard "this is just a movie" at least a few times. He treats it as if it's 100% true to life.
