Dancing, What are the benefits?

- Former male choreographer for some hip hop teams and some music artists here. I'm really glad you took the time to point this out. In fact, its the tool I've used to meet women and it's an incredible way to break the ice and put people at ease. As silly as it sounds, I initially got into dance my junior year of high school for the sole purpose of meeting girls but quickly fell in love with it and it became much more then a pick-up tool literally overnight. It will help you in ways that are so much more important then trying to find a hook up or girlfriend. You'll learn to express your emotions through movement and this will only compliment other aspects of your personality/game. I seriously commend you for taking the time to explore dance and delve into it with seemingly no restraints! I understand how hard it is for people to express themselves in a way that is so public. You really cannot lie to anyone or yourself when you start to dance. There is no way to "fake" it. I'm sure you'll continue to break down barriers the more and more you dance and thats really respectable. Unfortunately I'm not teaching class because I'm focusing on becoming a paramedic but I'm always freestyling in my kitchen lmao. And if you're interested, here is some inspiration for you. The dancers are Jillian Meyers and Shaun Evaristo. Truly masters of their craft and very inspirational.

I used to hate dancing, mainly because I was incredibly self-conscious. When friends would go out with me, they'd all go dancing and I'd sit at the table and drink alone. For a long time, I resisted changing. Then I heard that people weren't inviting me out anymore because I was "weird" and wasn't taking a part in the group. It literally made them uncomfortable that I wasn't dancing. For awhile, I couldn't understand it. Why should they give a shit if I'm dancing or not? I shouldn't have to do something I don't like just to make them feel better.

Eventually, I figured out it was less about the dancing and more about the fact that I wasn't taking part of the group. I wasn't engaging them socially. It's the same for any activity. If you all go bowling and someone just sits there and pouts, you're going to think he's anti-social and unapproachable. No, you don't have to dance, but if you go to a club and you're not dancing, don't be surprised when people give you weird looks.

Now I love dancing. I'm much more confident and don't really give a fuck. It actually helps me get over feelings of self-doubt or self-consciousness. I just get out on the dance floor, close my eyes, groove and feel a lot better. Plus, if you're in that environment, it's the easiest way to open girls. Just catch a girl's eye, smile and do something fun, then you're in. It's a lot better than skulking around the bathroom or at the bar waiting for a girl to walk by.

The main benefit is having fun. Everything else comes as a byproduct of that.

As someone who knows how to do dance. Learning dancing is a big DHV especially if your truly dance for the fun of it not to just get attention from girls. I have gone dancing before just cause I loved the song. Girls were trying to get my attention even 2 of them poked me in the back and invited me to dance with them. I've had girls come and grind on me without me even making the first move. I've had a girl stop me on the dance floor tell me "I am good dancer" etc. If you hit the dance floor with the intention of having fun and enjoying the song girls will flock to you. If you do it for the attention well...doesn't go so well. Either way I had my night out dancing so w/e :D.

Physical confidence is a huge one. I dance competitively, and if you can go out onto the floor to dance in front of a bunch of judges as well as hundreds of other people, it's hard to feel anxious going into other situations.

If you're naturally quite averse to being open with people physically, like me, it's also good for desensitising yourself to touching people. When you start off, you feel odd that you're holding hands with strangers, but when you're more experienced you don't bat an eyelid even about the sort of thing that in any other context would be construed as pretty sexual.

EDIT: Downsides - Extremely hot girls with boyfriends, everywhere.

Do what you have fun with. Personally, I don't bother with dancing, as I think it's lame. But it's a simple and effective way to demonstrate that you're comfortable with yourself, so use it if you enjoy it.

As a dancer myself, I agree entirely. It's a great way to meet people(not just women(gasp), and discover more about yourself. It's also a skill that's not common for guys. I would suggest going to a social dance(swing/salsa/tango or contra) for a month or two to get a good sense if it's for you or not. For me it is, even if it's not for you; you'll know.

I think one of the turn-offs of dance for me is the music. You really need to like the music you are dancing to. It is the biggest reason I avoided clubs (and went to bars instead) all these years.

I am a really good dancer. I find the dancefloor sort of a trap when it comes to picking up girls. I scout out girls who are looking at me, sometimes they even move to dance closer to me. But as soon as I approach in any kind of way, even playful dancing, a lot of the time they just shun me away.

But dancing is helpful if you meet a girl talking then they say "lets go dancing". But I never try to get girls who are already on the dancefloor because most girls there will only go for physical attraction.

EDIT: It's all about your mood really. If you are in a awesome state, dancing can really DHV and people are attracted to other people who are generally having fun.

I've even doing salsa for about 7 tears now and the long run benefits are slim and far between. Honestly a bonafide sport would be better because it distracts from my mental game. Mental game is what girls want IMHO. Perhaps a sport like tennis combined with online dating would get you more chicks and keep you healthy.

In the short run I had many benefits (closes), but I was fairly talented so aptitude may be a factor.
