Pretty much same boat as you except I have blond hair. 6’4 230 really muscular type, told I’m attractive etc. and yeah I have the same experience.
Anytime I’ve approached a cute girl or talked with them later on it was some variation of “you were scary” “I was intimidated” “didn’t think you’d ever go for me” and these are from very good looking women.
I think it comes down to them realizing that you are super good looking and probably have your choice of women so why bother, if they come on to you and you reject them that’s ego crushing, so they just observe from a distance. They almost become disinterested which made me really confused for awhile before I realized what’s going on. I wondered why they weren’t super flirty or obvious, like with some other guys but it’s because you’re such a high level they don’t want to bruise their ego by getting shut down.
It’s almost like you have surpassed the basic realm of the game and now need to realize that you have more power and leverage than you thought. They’re intimidated because of what you look like, so recognize that and if you approach show through actions/words that you “chose” them (because you have your pick remember) and they will love that.
Hope that helped a bit.

Mate thank you that has really helped. I was half expecting a barrage of abuse after what I posted because it could be seen as bragging etc but I honestly find it a huge problem.
I’m glad that someone else can relate to this. I wonder if the height is the main thing especially if the girl is short.
[–]FrostyChampionship95 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
This happens to me sometimes too. Usually, the girl clams up. She stares at me, I go approach her, and she turns all red and doesn't say anything. Often she will cover up her face.
Funny thing is, then she will often give me some sort of gift, like a mint drop or something along those lines.
I haven't figured out how to break through. I'm usually really good with girls, and can turn even the least interested girls into an enthusiastic girl but this is a conundrum I haven't cracked.
And I'm not super tall, about 6'. But I have a very good face, a classically beautiful bone structure that some girls go nuts for.
Would love to hear if anyone's solved this.
[–]Cachis123457 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Maybe try making her laugh, it might make her feel more comfortable (:
[–]Keeptrying2020 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
As a 5ft5 dude, just gotta say that everyone has problems. It's just framed differently.
It's proof that there is more to things than just on the surface.
We short dudes have a different problem then you. But I can totally see the confusion you maybe facing everyday. Like wtf is wrong with me...etc at the end of the day, i think it just comes down to if you are interested just show them that side of things were you are serious and not looking for just a ONS.
Insecurity is definitely real, especially if you are very attractive. The girls who can't handle you will end up being a burden to you.
I think it similar for strong very attractive woman as well. They probably have similar type of problems, where their beauty is their downfall. Everyone is just trying to hook up with them.
[–]peachkeen17 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I completely agree with your comment. In addition- As a woman who also gets approached or hit on often enough, I’d say the only thing intimidating about it being a really good looking guy is wondering whether or not I am special or if this hot dude is a “player”. I am a young adult and still learning so my though process may be a little immature, but I do think it is important to make the women in question feel unique and important.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I do try to make women feel important and respected, however I am just out of a 20 year relationship and I have zero desire to get into another just yet, I want to have fun and not be serious with anyone, so effectively I want to be a "player" for a bit.
So would that completely put you off?
[–]peachkeen17 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Oh that’s completely understandable then! No not at all as long as that is made clear at some point. If you are not leading girls to believe you want something more then I wouldn’t be off put by your approach at all:)

"so recognize that and if you approach show through actions/words that you “chose” them" Could you elaborate more on this? Any details.

As a woman who has been told for similar reason by men that I am intimidating, finding a man like you isn’t easy. The ones worth your time are out there.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link
How often do you get approached during the day (not in bars etc, just going about your day)?
Would you like it if someone like me approached you in, say, a grocery store, in a fairly direct way ie expressed attraction?
[–]BiscuitxCruiser 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link
Well as a women it’s different. I am good looking and walk confidently. I’ve experienced being approached nicely all the way to aggressive cat calling. And this happens daily. I personally am confident but will always be hesitant at first for many reasons men don’t necessarily think about. I don’t mind being approached anywhere when done with some finesse and respectfully, which includes letting me walk away if I say no.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link
I thought I was one of a very small percentage of guys who actually approached women during the day but this happens to you a lot by the sounds of it.
If I stopped you on the street or in a store and said something like ‘Excuse me, I just wanted to say that you look pretty hot so I wanted to say hi because I don’t do online dating etc’
That’s fairly direct - how would you typically respond to that? (I know it depends on the guy but imagine someone on your level)
[–]stufuonlyaskstrngers 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
Another good looking lady here with some advice. That would work for me (if I also found you attractive which sounds like I would from your description) ONLY if you replaced “pretty hot” with “very pretty / beautiful” or something similar. It is much classier way of saying it, also, since you aren’t 18yrs old saying “pretty hot” would sound a bit juvenile. Hope that helps.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
How often do you get approached?
[–]BiscuitxCruiser 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Well recently I’ve massively limited Going out in any capacity because of covid. But being genuinely approached by someone worth it doesn’t happen very often. But how often am I just approached in some way, is almost every time I go out now. Again don’t mind it, but some men are very aggressive about it.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It’s a shame because these aggressive idiots have ruined it for the rest of us.
I can only imagine what it’s like for a hot girl going about her day getting stared at by every man and getting catcalled etc. I imagine sort of validating at first and then just downright annoying/scary.
The ironic thing is that if you’re too hot, guys won’t approach you as we feel like you have too many options and must be approached multiple times every day.
[–]Keeptrying2020 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Random question. If a confident good looking short dude, comes up and talks to you. Lets say you are 5"9, and the guy was 5"5 Would you consider depending on how we engages with you or just outright reject? Due to unfamiliarity of dating shorter guys.
You can be brutally honest, won't hurt my ego. Lolol. I've had dated girls slightly taller then me. But never had the opportunity to date someone significantly taller. I wouldn't mind the experience tbh. Imo attraction can come in the form of all shapes and sizes.
[–]BiscuitxCruiser 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Hello, I am 5’7” with heels can be almost 5,10” I have given shorter men a chance but unfortunately it just doesn’t seem to work for what I like. Again can’t speak for all women. But personally I would be cordial but I wouldn’t be interested.
[–]Keeptrying2020 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Fair enough everyone has their preferences. Sometimes I feel that unless they have really good personalities, that matches with yours. It's hard to get out of what you truly like.
Ie I like the strong women emotionally and mentally type.
In your experience, what was the thing that just didn't make you feel right and had to let them go? Was it a confidence issue from the men? Over compensation?
You can be brutally honest. 😂🔥
[–]BiscuitxCruiser 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I guess it depended on the guy. Some lack confidence but some are over compensative as well. I have turned down nice guys before with good personality before just because they were shorter then I. If I have to bend down to hug or kiss you it’s a no go. Eye level is as short as I seem to be able to go and even then a taller man would always grab my attention much more. Again all very subjective to what I prefer. But I want to feel idk what the right word is but covered maybe protected when standing next my man.
[–]Keeptrying2020 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Right so a strong wingspan is what you are looking for?!
Ie a short batman. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Joking aside, fair enough. In terms of over compensative what type of overcompensating were you seeing in said guys? Could you provide some examples.
Again, I'm just being inquisitive and not trying to single you out. It's a mere learning exp to see how some females think, and I do know it's all subjective.
Example, I have a weird attraction for girls who can eat spicy. It gets it feeds into how I'm also attracted to those who are emotionally and mentally strong.
Someone who can't handle spicy is a slight turn off for me. Lololololl
[–]quirkypinkllama 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
For me, the first thing I look for is if he's got a cute face. If that's a no, then it's a rejection based only on that.
[–]BiscuitxCruiser 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I personally would respond positively to that approach, I can’t speak for all women however. But I think saying “you look nice” will always sound better then your hot. And I think that saying your not doing the online thing would already grab my attention, if you didn’t have it already.
[–]Juaguel 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Curios: What is nice looking girl like yourself doing in this subreddit? What is it about the community here that brings you here?
[–]BiscuitxCruiser 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Honestly just General interest and curiosity reading other’s opinions and having stimulating conversation, even when dealing with annoying trolls. It’s an outlet I enjoy.
I tried it today with a woman I locked eyes with. Told her she looked nice, got her number.
O yay! Congratulations, have fun getting to know each other.

Haha bro iois are shit. If I get a strong ioi 90% of the time I will get blown out by them! Some even get mad I approached I don’t get it like you were looking at me. As far your problem you’re right good looks and a tall height I’m assuming I wouldn’t know I’m 5’8 will intimidate women. Stay in your approaches if she’s not outright rejecting you and just keep approaching. 30 a week minimum
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
No way I can do 30 a week where I live, I would get a reputation by the end of week 1 and probably one of the 30 seeing me open someone else.

On the several occasions I have approached, I have left the interaction feeling that it didn't go well, and the girl clammed up, was quiet, serious, slightly awkward even.
Never assume shit and cockblock yourself. Just ask for number and see if the girl follows.
Honestly, I have a male friend who is probably at least your height. And he’s ALL MUSCLE. He’s very nice, I have no rational reason to feel concerned about him for any reason, but I’m going to be honest: Even though he’s incredibly nice and a good friend to me, he’s HUGE. I feel intimidated by his strength and size. Walking side by side, I fear that he won’t realize his own strength and will accidentally side swipe me with his arm and knock my teeth out or something! And I very much like this guy as a friend! I have nothing bad to say about him AT ALL. But his size DOES consistently scare me. And that’s MY problem. It’s totally irrational and I know it. Just being honest.
[–]ireallyloveoats 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
So theoretically what could he do to reduce his intimidation factor in approaching so she doesn't suddenly "have a boyfriend" lol
[–]hartlylove 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
28F here and I have the same problem (only reversed - I seem to intimidate guys and am 5feet small😅). What has worked for me was to make the first move, even though I’m still super shy and do get intimidated. Seems like guys expect to have to do the first move so if I do it, then they feel I must be really interested. My advice for a guy though would be to do the opposite. Perhaps wait for a woman who does have the guts to approach you? That way you’re sure she’s not going to be intimidated if she did the first move. But yeah, us girls get intimidated easily. I get intimidated by guys who apparently are intimidated by me too.
[–]TheGodOfPizzaAndNaps 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
women who make the first move are the best thing to happen to you. I wouldn’t wait for it though cause it happens like once every 5 years 😂
[–]MalibuProducer77 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes exactly! Lol
[–]peachkeen17 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This makes me feel so much better. I am a women and usually make the first move but fear that in itself is intimidating or not correct. I guess I’ve been conditioned to let the man approach first or text first but I’m starting to think F- that. I’ll do it myself. So far it has worked really well but some men don’t like it
If you’re a big dude 6’4 try to look less big by wearing a hoodie instead of a t shirt. You got rejected 5 times that’s nothing. I’m really lucky if I get one out of 5 and I’m 16
[–]MakeSail 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
What age women are you approaching?
Any age (obviously legal). If I find them hot and they give me some indication that they’d be open to my approach.
I tend to find I get more IOIs from younger women (18-25) as I’ve got older.
[–]JustHereNorThere 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Thanks for posting this, the responses and dialogue I’ve read thus far has given me some confidence back to approach women in real life again. I did this a few times but always received “I’ve got a boyfriend” was I just unlucky?
I think I struggle with this too, and also am re-learning after a divorce. I'm not sure I'm necessarily handsome (maybe slightly above average) but I am just simply physically intimidating as a 6'1 220 lean bodybuilder body type. I'll approach after some IOI (which I question if I misread at times lol) and their eyes go wide and get very nervous. I try to be friendly and not excessively intimating.
It's like on one hand, everywhere we are told men need to be confident and direct and go straight up to them in approach. But then you do, and it's "I have a BF" (which gut feeling tells me it's not true) or just seems I come off too strong. What gives man.
[–]MalibuProducer77 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah I feel what you're saying. I've had people in real life say I'm a very good looking guy. I've had girls online say "there's no way those are your pictures" lol. I'm confident, good looking, dress extremely well aka designer clothes here and there, girls give me an ioi, then when I approach them, they freeze the fuck up! 😂 I'm in NC in a small city but like another guy said if I approach way too much eventually a rumour is gonna start going around and people will say "That's that guy that just talked to such and such yesterday. There he goes again talking to another girl now". The southern gossip is sooooooo irritating down here I can't stand it. Makes me feel I need to be in NYC or Miami etc. It's like I'm too much for the whole state of NC and whatever I do is a spotlight effect on me smh. Be confident and approach for what if the people down here can't take a confident good looking guy? 😐
[–]Economy-Cockroach989 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Maybe she is just looking at you, not an ioi. Seems an "ioi" can be construed as anything. I look at people in the eyes all the time just so I dont run into them. Maybe they like girls better (I would if I were a female) and you need to chill and get comfortable being single.
[–]MajesticLaw4939 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think you're height and apparent good looks are an advantage. While 6'4 is definitely tall, you aren't a 7 footer. When you approach girls really make sure you are coming off in a funny, charismatic way. May have to work a little harder to put them at ease and be comfortable. Are there any cities nearby your town? May have to expand to nearby places if they aren't extremely far. Also, just my 2 cents, for guys who are on the more attractive end of the distribution online dating works better. So you may re evaluate your distaste for that a bit. I don't like it either, but it's an easy way to put yourself out there and with being an attractive dude you'll have a better shot than the average guys out there.
[–]gordons_vodka_lillet -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
It's not about looks it's about your attitude. You behave in a way that tells them you're not really attracted to them. Women are surrounded by needy men and they learn to read them easily, but when they meet a man that doesn't seek their approval they can't understand him, they don't know what to do. They don't want to fuck it up, but since they never needed any game to get a man, they never learned how to behave around such men, so they end up ignoring you as the best strategy.
To them you're a man that slays pussy all the time even if it's not true. They are afraid that you will fuck them and dump them. In my experience women who feel insecure are not worth it, they're the most manipulative. And they project their insecurity on you, thinking that it's you who's really manipulative and end up doing weird shit themselves.
I get this a lot and I'm average height, not good looking, introvert. I know I'm average looking at best because I tried online dating and didn't get a lot of matches and when I did it was women I won't date.
I wouldn't think of this as being extremely attractive, I would call it being extremely polarizing. The women that will be attracted to you and trust you at the same time will be the most confident and emotionally healthy ones.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
How is directly approaching a woman behaving in a way that tells them you’re not really attracted to them?
That’s the whole point of approaching.
[–]sammay74 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Perhaps they are afraid you won’t stay attracted to them if you have lots of options? Make a woman laugh, breaks the ice, and puts her at ease.
[–]gordons_vodka_lillet 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Because she thinks you just want to fuck her. She has put you so high above her she assumes there's nothing else you'd want with her.
[–]jbb_81 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
No offense, but this sounds like 1st world, woe is me even though I'm Adonis, exaggerated problems. You could just be bored. Full of yourself and chicks pick up on that. I don't mean that in a rude way, just in a reality way. You do you. But I've come to learn that height issues go both ways. Yet beautiful women I know talk about if the man is short but holds himself in the proper way, they don't care. Take that in the opposite... being tall could be intimidating, but you hold yourself in the proper way, women would be disarmed. But it seems to be that you actually care and are aware of these situations, which shows that you're trying to learn and grow. So my shitty advice... its all about you being right. And knowing what you want. Too many choices clouds the mind. Come from the proper place internally. Use the real world situations that are given to you. Then fine tune your approach and learn who you want, and that shit will happen. I'm a firm believer in that. But you good, bro. Wish you the best
[–]throwaway_fibonacci 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I have also been told that I’m intimidating, but more because I’m a late bloomer that had to develop a great sense of humor and was a bookworm during an awkward phase that lasted from 7-17. LOL. I definitely “Longbottomed.” I’m also around your age, but get mistaken for being 15 years younger. (I’m cringing looking at what I wrote above, please deflate my head).
HAVING SAID THAT, I’m still intimidated by strikingly beautiful men. And when they show interest in me, I’m still flabbergasted because I’ve internalized that adolescent awkwardness from when I was every guy’s little sister. There is such a thing as a guy being so pretty that I don’t think I can date them, if that makes sense. Although, I’ve dated some pretty attractive men. It kind of makes a girl more self-conscious, especially considering all the things we ladies have to do regularly for general upkeep. Example: I exercise maybe 6-7 hours per week and have a pretty involved skincare and haircare regimen. If I have to date YOU, do I have to up my game even more??! Lol
Anyways, I’m wondering if you splash any humor into your approach? Even with super pretty men, that seems to break the ice and lower the walls a bit, in my experience. :)
[–]nyccowgirl 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I almost laughed at this while reading it...not because it isn't an issue but because I'm amazed it's an issue at this age. Sure, insecure women and/or shy women become awkward around men (of any stature and looks, even more so if they think the other person is out of their league which to me is just a sign of insecurity because nobody is out of anyone's league, let's be honest). However, at around 40, I would view any person who does this, whether man or woman, as a red flag.
We are all attracted to confidence and knowing what we want in life. You would hope that by this age, we'd figure that out already, and if not, there's probably a lot of internal work that hasn't been done. I meet younger men quite a bit who are 6'2" plus (note that I'm petite at a little under 5'). When I was younger, I was shy so didn't even know how to flirt with men although I had a lot of male friends. But now at 40+, a lot of those tall, good looking younger men, actually are attracted to my confidence, despite the 15+ years age gap. They find that refreshing.
You don't have to do anything to 'improve' things. I would consider what you're going through as perhaps a blessing that it will perhaps help you weed out insecure women. Just be you!
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
No matter what, anything is possible. You just have to realize it's not a big deal and you got no other choice. If you got IOIs, you already have enough. You need to just approach anyway instead of complaining about it. Security will always play a factor, I've been interrogated by police twice already for just appearing suspicious (not from cold approaching though).
[–]fouad-makarem 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I do to my man . Its cause of the confidence and the in your face i dont give a fuck kinda attitude or whatever the thing is . And alot of women are insecure and shit
[–]quirkypinkllama 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I get VERY nervous around a guy I like and can't hardly make eye contact if I'm super attracted. It's ridiculous. But it's me. Getting better.
Maybe ask if right then and there if she could grab a coffee so you're all seated and the height thing isn't as much a factor?
What do you say/how do you act when these kind of guys approach you?
I'm probably turning my head, blushing, giggling, having short comments, can't make eye contact, and trying to run away. Lol
