Stop them and say "I know this is weird, but I thought you were cute and wanted to say hi"
That's it. That's all you have to do to approach
[–]Zoidberg22 25 points26 points27 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
That easy?
[–]gzupan 45 points46 points47 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Did this in my college days. Day game is the best. You would be surprised how many girls would be into a cold approach like this. Just mind you frame is everything. This means calibrating your body language to hers and confidence in yourself. Once you open like this go straight to asking questions about her and just key in on the things that interest her that interest you. This is what gets you the numbers, the dates, and most of all attraction.
If the conversation goes stale or just feels off, move on. Understand women are just as awkward and are shy too (it’s not just you). Everyone’s different but you learn a lot about yourself by just having a conversation.

Thanks. I've approached during class and can tell when's there attraction of some sort of not, but yeah. Getting to hang out is the hard part for me.

Does your school send out an email of like campus involvement stuff? Sometimes they have some activities that are free and fun af to do.
Some people will say invite her to get coffee or drinks, but if you can, I have found that doing stuff where we have to work together creates a sort of bond between us. Like me and this one girl built a Chinese lantern and once we finally got it able to fly, we were already talking live we’ve known each other our whole lives.
Keep checking this sub, but def ask some guys on your campus. Remember, the best artists steal and taking some of your friends ideas and “repurposing” them to fit your needs is fine to do.

They probably just meant it works a good percentage of the time. If she's in a rush to get to the next class, she'll pass you up without acknowledging you.
[–]wildcard570 8 years ago [recovered] (11 children) | Copy Link
How long should I talk with them for and about what?
[–]__ManBeast__ 19 points20 points21 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
As long as you can and if it's a random approach, start with her. After saying she's cute, you would elaborate on what about her stands out, then make an observation on that. If she looks nerdy, you say "I like your whole nerdy look. I bet you get straight A's". It doesn't matter if your observation is correct, she'll correct you.
After that it's up to you to keep the conversation rolling until she invests (contributes to the conversation). So in the example I gave you could then give a story about how a girl you know almost failed a class, or about how you knew a girl who was super nerdy then got hot. Just anything you want to talk about. And you do this until she starts asking you questions (this is when she invests). Humor and interesting stories help make this smoother and faster. And if you're lucky, she might invest after just "hello", though I'm giving advice for when she doesn't.
Once she invests, you wanna escalate physically while keeping the conversation going. Just touch her shoulder when you make a joke, give her a high five and hold her hand, hug or kiss her if she's being extremely receptive (gauge her reactions and calibrate accordingly). After you escalate and she's receptive to it, you can ask for her number or take it even further.

Hey man this seems like awesome advice.
I just made a separate post before I saw this, I’m kinda in the same situation this guy is except I turned 33 a month ago. I had a gf of 4 years and she cheated on me so that’s over...but I’m trying to pick up the pieces now that I’ve processed it. I see gorgeous chicks walking around all over NYC.
Would this work for me to do? Or am I way too old for this now? I’ve been out of the game so long I dunno what’s up anymore.
[–]camergen 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I feel like this would work for anyone no matter the age, as long as you tailor the questions to be age appropriate. (Happily married now) but I can tell you guys all over are jealous of the opportunities a big city like NYC would have in the women market. I’m sure the competition is harder also but the quality has to be amazing. I’ve heard the tinder app in NYC is particularly useful because you can meet up for a drink after work so easily and more often. I’d have to think there would be opportunities on the subway too (“oh couldn’t help but noticing you were looking at blah-blah on your phone- isn’t that crazy? The other day I heard blah blah blah, now we are talking and you say something blah blah”) 33 would be a good age- you could still reasonably chase the lower 20s but could also dabble in the NYC milf market. Honestly I’m straight up jealous of you lol.
[–]Beach155 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Thank you so much man. Great to read this. Gives me some hope here.
[–]camergen 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
No problem- keep me posted, feel free to PM. If I were you i would be excited about the possibilities. I’m sure it would take some work (getting women usually does somehow lol) but I would def use this time to work on myself and reap the rewards to get back out there and get back in the game and be better than before.
[–]__ManBeast__ 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
It will work the exact same way. Only difference is that college is usually a more open environment so girls a lot of the times are more willing to talk or flirt. So it's somewhat more expected than just on a busy street. For daygame out on the street you should be aware of the fact that usually people are busy or are going somewhere (not always the case, especially for beautiful women), so you need to be more forward and "aggressive" with your approach.
Make sure you stop them in their tracks, don't walk with them unless they absolutely won't stop and you're being persistent. Immediately ask if they're busy once they start investing. If so, you have to be aware of the time limit and go for the number a bit quicker than normal. If not, continue as planned, maybe even try for an instadate/instapull if the girl is receptive.
Another thing to keep in mind is that NYC is gonna be a lot more high traffic than a college campus. So be quicker and more energetic to better suit the environment.
Other than that, a quick tip for busy areas like NYC is that you can always rely on guessing their nationality/if they were born in NYC or not as your opening observation. So whereas in college an easy observation is "You look like you study X or are going for Y degree", an easy observation with NYC might be "You look like you're from X" (you can add "no offense" to subtly tease her) or "you look like you were born in Y part of the city". You'll either guess right and they'll open up, or they'll correct you and you have a thread of conversation to go with.
[–]Beach155 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Wow thank you very much, I really appreciate this. Makes perfect sense.
Do you have any insight on the kind of numbers game to expect? Meaning I definitely don’t think I’ll be going out with every girl I talk to—but how much rejection should be anticipated?
[–]__ManBeast__ 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That I can't really say. It's gonna be different every time you go out. Expect to succeed in every set, since that confidence will permeate the conversation, but if you do get rejected it's not a big deal. Especially in a busy location where you can bounce from girl to girl. It's just important that you have outcome independence: you don't care about succeeding or winning, you just care about going out and having fun.
A good quote I heard (from RSDTyler I believe) is:
"Just try to say hello and spread your positive attitude. Anything past hello is a bonus."
Just going out and being positive should be your goal. Whether or not girls give numbers or rejections is irrelevant.
[–]nycxjz 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Length and topic can and will vary.
[–]Moderatorrecyclablebanthas 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
There's no rule here. Follow the conversation. This means that you should be actively listening.
What to talk about: like I said, you should be paying attention. The girl will literally hand you topics to talk about, if you listen.
More on this idea, here. There's my comment and then the longer video you could listen to.

This is fine, though you really don't need to say that you know it's weird.
2
Overall, simply sharing an observation about the situation or the girl, is better than the very basic comment of cute.
3
And if you're going to go the "cute" route, you can do worlds better by being more specific.
Since we ought to be paying attention, we should be able to point to a specific thing that's cute. Like her something specific about her outfit or something she's doing.
Don't just leave it at, "Cute." We can do better and it doesn't take much, just paying attention, which we ought to be doing anyway.
[–]__ManBeast__ 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I think for a situation where you're cold approaching a girl in the middle of the day it's good to acknowledge the awkwardness. It shows that you're socially adept enough to understand what you're doing is random and weird, but that you're confident enough to still do it. And putting it in the opening line is as good a place as any.
Overall, simply sharing an observation about the situation or the girl, is better than the very basic comment of cute. And if you're going to go the "cute" route, you can do worlds better by being more specific.
I would argue that the observation should come after the initial line if you're not practiced enough at opening (Which OP surely doesn't appear to be). Going up and just saying she's cute is a good way to overcome approach anxiety and "talking yourself out of it" when approaching. Whereas if you are trying to actively give an observation and work it into your opening, you're just giving yourself more ideas to get stressed over before you even approach. You can easily remember to just use cute, then naturally transition into the observation. Something like:
"I know this is weird, but I thought you were cute and wanted to say hi. You look like a girl who _________"
[–]Moderatorrecyclablebanthas 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
____1____
I think for a situation where you're cold approaching a girl in the middle of the day it's good to acknowledge the awkwardness.
But it's NOT awkward. People talk to each other every day; it's not weird. We talk to people all the time at grocery stores, banks, etc.
If one is outcome independent and simply out enjoying their day, there's nothing weird about talking to strangers. I've literally never even thought of saying anything like this and I've never needed to.
____2____
I would argue that the observation should come after the initial line if you're not practiced enough at opening (Which OP surely doesn't appear to be).
No. Vice versa. Opening with an observation is instant connection. We're talking about commenting on a shared experience of that moment.
____3____
Now, if you walk up with the random thing if, "I think you're cute and I want to talk to you," that's self-centered and really has nothing to do with what she was just thinking about. So then the guy who opens this way has to then work uphill against the fact that he just interrupted her train of thought and didn't even offer anything for conversation as he did so.
What's the most he could expect in response to telling a girl she's cute?
"Thanks!"
And then what?
The veteran might be able to whip something up with his observational skills, but then that renders the opener a waste of time; he could have just OPENED with something observational to begin with.
Meanwhile the newb is going to fumble and go down in flames at that point.
____4____
Whereas if you are trying to actively give an observation and work it into your opening, you're just giving yourself more ideas to get stressed over before you even approach.
Observation isn't stressful. It's quick. It's you seeing something and popping off with that.
Say you went to a coffee shop. You see someone order something with a double shot. Immediately you could comment about them being tired or ask why they need the extra shot.
You notice some shoes with studs on them. They look kind of punk. You can immediately say that you like the shoes, they seem kind of punk.
There's nothing to process. There's nothing to "work in." It's literally just noticing something and being Captain Obvious. Literally saying, "Hi," and adding whatever observation popped into your head, is fine.
Talking to people isn't weird. Pickup in broad daylight with a possible time constraint is. In a situation where you can talk to the girl for a while and have it be a natural conversation that escalates to a close of some sort, then yes, it's not gonna be awkward and therefore you don't have to point it out. But OP is talking about girls you'd approach who are walking somewhere/passing by, and are most likely going somewhere. So you don't always have the luxury of time or natural conversation, sometimes you have to be quick. And if you suddenly stop her to talk, you're being disruptive, so you should point that out to make her comfortable that you're aware of what you're doing.
Yes being outcome independent and going about your day is best, but if you're learning pickup it's going to take a lot of time to develop that mindset. And if you already have this mindset, you don't really need pickup advice for daygame.
You're very clearly teaching the proper method here, and I agree that observations are best, but most guys who don't have experience and aren't advanced are not going to be able to come up with something on the spot. They'll freeze. And it's much easier to just say a general line that conveys interest, acknowledges the situation, and opens a dialogue.
I'm not saying to blurt it out and go silent. I'm saying when you approach someone, especially as a newb (which OP is, presumably), you might not always have something to say. By opening with an easy-to-remember line, you can open and then think of something. It's a quick open and it's so innocuous that you can transition into anything from it. Yes the girl might just react with "Thanks!", but you're not approaching to look for a reaction, that's needy and selfish. You approach with a simple line, then transition from there of your own volition, not based on what she says. You shouldn't even be expecting a reaction during the open.
[–]2bl3est 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This works.
[–]Lambdal7 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Yes, you don't need to mention the weird at all. What if a girl chatted you up on campus, would you think she's weird or would you maybe think, wow she is really confident and not afraid to talk to people. She must know a lot of people on campus and be popular.
[–]__ManBeast__ 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
If she stopped me and tried to get my phone number as I'm walking to class I'd think that was especially weird. I get that you're trying to build a mindset where this is normal so as to permeate it to the girl, but still acknowledging shows social awareness. Otherwise when you stop a girl who's busy you sound oblivious to social norms.
[–]Lambdal7 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Sure, that's why you don't ask for a phone number straight away.
She would say hello to you and chat with you for a few mins and say "hey are you on facebook" or something similar.
[–]camergen 26 points27 points28 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
This is all pretty good stuff, except with one major caveat: you will fail. Miserably. Flat on your face. Some will already have a boyfriend, some may just ignore you, others will give one word responses awkwardly, BUT all of this is ok. Anyone attempting to meet women in a bar or other public place anywhere will get rejection. The more times you attempt it, the more confidence you will have and the more you can calibrate your routine. If you go to a big college, just keep in mind: I will never see this person again, so what’s the harm? Or; “well that didn’t go well- no big. Try again.”
[–]sorry_mommy 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's not failure, it's rejection, and it's crucial to get rejected in order to learn how to not get rejected. Some people will even tell you to go out and get yourself rejected on purpose, just to see what it feels like and to understand how girls react.
[–]DaddyB0d 16 points17 points18 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You're getting a preview of life after college. The vast majority of women you'll want to meet are going to be total strangers.
[–]johannthegoatman 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
If you're going the same direction as them or are in some sort of line with them or something, just say "hey, what's up?"
Treat them like an old friend, just be natural and casual and don't act like you think what you're doing is weird. Girls usually respond to the frame you set.
[–]G0615 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
What exactly does “frame” mean?
[–]rg3mfer 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's basically how you view yourself. If your frame is "strong " you are speaking from a place of high value, you make it so you are the prize, she feels as tho you have abundance and are confident
[–]xuqmiqoxe 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Comment on something they are wearing. A lot of girls in college wear sweaters of the school or even other schools they went to or just wanted to go, but ended up in your school. Comment on something like that. Example would be "Hey cool sweater, where did you get it?" she will say oh thanks blah blah and you just say... "Ah cool, well listen you're really cute and though I think your sweater is awesome too, I really just wanted to meet you" ..from there just carry on with questions. A lot of times these indirect approaches are good for starters, but be prepared to hear a lot of "oh thanks, I actually have class" or "oh thanks but I actually have a boyfriend" don't get scared, many times girls just say that to see your reaction if you are cool about it you can close. Sometimes a girl would say you know what I actually don't have a boyfriend and just give you her phone number.
[–]GET_IN_THE_VAN 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
ok a lot of people here are giving you bad advice man. If you do classic cold approach on a college campus it will destroy your life.
[–]kanyelephant 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Hahah so fucking dramatic
[–]Moderatorrecyclablebanthas 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
First issue is that you need to drop the dependence you have on the outcome of "picking up" on a girl and just go to campus ready to socialize.
Do what you can to get into a good mood beforehand.
Make eye contact with people, smile, even wave.
Important: again, I'll emphasize that doing these things without the goal of anything other than sharing that first instant of the smile and eye contact, is key. People can feel when you need more. It makes you come off desperate.
Observe/pay attention/actively listen. Stop fussing in your head about what to say and fucking look at the world around you. There's plenty to talk about. Even if you just did the Captain Obvious thing of commenting on the obvious, that can be funny and instantly lead to connection. Paying attention is huge. And almost no one does it because they're looking for the fucking magic tricks.
[–]_Tactleneck_ 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
There’s no easy path or shortcut. In the beginning your only goal is to say hello, talk about whatever you want, and get comfortable actually approaching people. Forget game or lines or strategy, just talk to a few random strangers each day about whatever you want, listen to their response, and try to keep it going. You’ll suck. It’ll be awkward. You’ll be rejected. Just keep doing it daily and you’ll get more comfortable. Eventually try moving the conversation where you want it to go, to getting a number or whatever. You’ll suck. It’ll be awkward. You’ll be rejected. Just keep doing it. Have other hobbies you love, too.

First off- Make sure you have the strut down. Swagger. Keep your chin held high and look like you know where you're going and you need to get there without interruption. Then, interrupt. lol You can literally say anything. Like you said, chances are you'll not run into them again, so have fun with it. Be like: "HEY! That's MY sidewalk! I'm going to have to charge you the toll. It's seven digits." Second-Actually HAVE plans. There's usually so much to do on a college campus that not having plans is pretty lazy. Keeping your social calendar full and open is a great way to meet women and bring new women into the fold.
[–]bubba2match 8 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link
Embrace the Greek life. Those events are precisely the kind of events that you can ONLY experience while attending college. Once you're out of college, you don't even stand a chance to get invited or to invite someone to a Greek party. Pick one house that represents your own personal interests, and then go chat up the members. Or become one, if that's your style. You could also start your own social group. This would be the long-game. Pay attention to what people are posting on public notice boards/sites. Go to music events. Go to art exhibitions. Go to games (e-games, sports, etc.). Ask around.

Talk to them. Just say "Hello." and introduce yourself. You have to make the connections happen or else nothing will happen.
[–]rigbed 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Look up YouTube videos on this. You’ll see you need to just be able to talk.
Alternatively you need to have a plan for something to do with the girl
But it helps to be aggressive. It helps to be douchey. It helps to tease them right away like you’ve known them forever. It helps to apply kino right away. Helps to be drunk when first trying this. Or high. Yes in midday. Or take some theanine.
