Ask for her name. She will give you here first name and be very pissed. Then say "No, I meant your surname." If she gives your her full name, just repeat "Ah surname, right." Forgetting the last name is more socially acceptable than her first name.

If you are in college, do this (I used to do it all the time when I was an RA, and would forget my resident's names).

I would say "Hey, can I see your ID card? I heard they started changing the design of them." She hands you her card, you look at it and say "hmm, guess not" and hand it back.

Problem solved.

Take her out. Order drinks. Your waitress will ask to see IDs; use this as on opportunity to flirt with her by asking to see her ID before she puts it away. Joke with her about her picture and scope out her name.

Don't even sweat it, ask her name again, like it's no big deal....because it's not.

I go to a couple neighborhood bars, and I forget girls' names regularly. Last weekend one got indignant about it (we made out once). I just told her "look, I don't remember a girl's name until after we've slept together"....::pause, eye contact::...." and even then it's only 50/50".

You could play a game with her. Take her out on a date and make her write her name out vertically on a piece of paper. Tell her to describe herself using the letters of her name.

Do you really need her name?

I've gone weeks without ever knowing a girls name and hanging out with her regularly. Unless you are calling her out in a crowd, just use terms like "baby" lol.

RSVP for a club before going out, and tell her you need her full name as it appears on her license to add her to the guest list, because they're gonna check IDs.

I'm really bad at remembering names. It took me decades to realize that it is a good thing. It saves time and makes you seem somehow interesting. I noticed that if I meet someone that I find attractive for whatever reason, and he/she can't remember my name, I have the automatic desire to prove myself worthy.

So now I just go "Oh yeah I forgot your name, what was it again?" I might do some funny stuff like saying "I disremember your name was it Rumpelstiltskin?" or "I'm pretty sure you have a name, mind telling me what it is?" or whatever, but mostly I just refuse to see it as an issue.

EDIT: Or "Um.. err..umm...mind if I call you Fred?"

Also a couple of days ago I met this Vietnamese girl on the train and tried to hook up with on Facebook (mobile) under two different names but failed. About a half an hour ago she connected with me under a third name and I sent back "How many names do you have? I knew you were a spy"

One thing I like to do is ask the girl how to spell her name. Considering all the different spellings one name can have nowadays it's a legitimate question.
