tl;dr: Great first date but then she dumps me for the ex. With analysis below.

Met a girl on the interwebs and had a date two days ago. I picked her up and we went to a bar. Conversation was good and intimate. That place closed so we bounced to another bar for another drink, this time sitting close at a booth plus a little hand holding.

Closed that bar, too, and held hands on the way to the car. I pulled her in for a kiss on the sidewalk and got a great response. Drove her home, some more necking in the car, and off she went. She was smiling ear to ear.

I called the next day to chat. She sounded really happy to hear from me. We talked some and then I asked if she wanted to meet again during the week. She was really into it but wasn't sure when she'd be free due to work. I told her to be in touch.

Just now got a call. She said that her ex called her last night and wants to try again. "I'm confused... but you're a great person... blah blah blah..." You know this one.

Did her ex really call her? Who knows? She's a woman, she lies. I'm inclined to think that it was the truth because she seemed honest and if she wanted, she could just ignore future calls. But if I were all that, maybe she'd have picked me over him?

Possible mistakes:

  • I picked her up late. My bad, dinner ran late. She got over it, however, and she didn't mention it again during the date.
  • I called the next day. In my country it's common that if the first date goes well, the next date is just 2-3 days later. In the USA this is a no-no?
  • When I called, I told her that I had a great time and she replied in kind. I could've left that out, leaving her thinking that I'm not yet on the hook.
  • Didn't build enough comfort? We talked on the phone a total of about 1 hour and at the bars another 2-3 hours before the kissing.

Anything I miss? Again, maybe her ex really did call but hopefully there's still something for me to learn here. I feel like I'v been here before.
