There's been a few posts recently about shit tests ... which made me think about this one that happened to me a while back. It's only half a field report since this isn't recent, but I'd love some feedback on what you would have said, because I got shut down.

At this bar, talking, drinks, band in the background ... you know the scene. Talking with this table of girls, there's me and two friends and about four or five girls. They were going to and from the table to dance. One in particular stayed to talk to me. We were hitting it off pretty well, I was in a pretty good zone and more witty than usual so I was really flying high on my own confidence. Apparently, this was pretty noticeable. One her friends comes back to the table and enters our conversation. She was the obvious leader of the group and I think she was a little upset I was paying more attention to her friend than her. It became kind of obvious (to me) and I made a joke or two at her expense. She played along, but became visually disappointed when I kept returning my focus to her friend ... that's when I got this line. 'You know, you're not nearly as cute as you think you are.' I wasn't expecting or used to this kind of aggression, so I didn't really know what to say. I gave her a look like, wow, that was bitchy, and she continued to stare directly at me waiting for a response. I finally said 'I'm sorry you feel that way.' which I still say isn't terrible, but it's still a pretty bad response. Obviously failing at her test, she rolled her eyes, smiled (the haha, I got you smirk), grabbed her friend's hand and took her to the dance floor. I called it a failed set and moved on.
