Got her number but felt so uncomfortable doing it

I am just a beginner at this and I admit I do not have a lot of confidence to approach girls easily, after all I have never done it before.

But I met this girl a week before in dance class and we talked for a bit in the metro - where I did tease her a bit and our talk although not great, it felt like we connected at times.

Today was the second lesson, and I felt there was not enough space to stand near her, however when I looked at her, she came to stand near me. And I swear I could feel an near intense feeling where I just wanted to kiss her. I had a first dance with her but then we had to change partners and the intensity felt lost when we danced a second time.

It was really crowded when we left, and I decided to wait for her. Suddenly I saw her on a bike, and I asked her if she wanted to catch up some time. Next I gave her the phone and asked her to write the number, she did it but it felt like she was a tad uncomfortable doing it.

I really thought I would ask her in the middle of a conversation but unfortunately as she was taking a bike, I had no option but to do it this way, I would have regretted not asking her any way.

Did i do the right thing? Any other ways to go about it?

Maybe it was just the fact that no one's asked for her number in that exact way? In this comment you say you asked for her phone, in the post it sounds like you gave her your phone.

Personally, I think that's a subtle thing -- your phone is an expensive and necessary device, you don't want that damaged, right? So someone you kinda know asks about it, suddenly your brain is like "whoah we like phone! Who's this guy? Is that okay? Do we trust him? Hmm, ok, hand it over." So, to me, it sounds like you just observed that thought process go through her head.

So bottom line -- no big deal, try not to worry. We like to find things to worry about before good dates :)

For future use, maybe try my thing? I like to bring up the dialer on my phone and have her put it in, then I'll call it right away and say "now you've got my number, too."

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I did exactly that infact, sorry for the confusion in the post. I brought up the dialer and gave her the phone.

Unfortunately I whatsapped her "Sorry if I made you uncomfortable". She replied immediately "You did not :)". I suppose yes you're right.

Anyways I'd like to thank this thread, two days earlier I asked another girl's phone number and she gave it immediately, although I don't really find her attractive but she lives in the neighbourhood and it's nice to have a chat now and then.

Today my eyes locked with a girl in the subway and I said to her when we got off - "I think you're really pretty, I couldn't get my eyes off you".

She said "Thanks that's very nice".

I ask "What's you name"

But she replies "I'm sorry, I don't give my names like that". And she goes away.

I've seen that complementing a girl on the street never brings results but it makes things much easier when you're in a simpler situation like a dance class.

Don't be ashamed of being a human, with human feelings. This "might" have ruined your chances with her, but it also could have opened her to you, who knows, people react differently to things.

You stated your intent clearly, props for that, but it sounds like you were staring at her, trying to get the courage to talk to her, and this is considered creepy.

giving a compliment is not that bad, it's the intent that's making a difference, and also the way you convey it. Next time you approach a girl on the street, compliment her choice of style, her hair, her tight jeans, skirt, whatever makes her stand out of the crowd.

this way you don't come off like that creepy guy that tells her how beautiful she is, which happens to her pretty much constantly, and it prevents her from automatically reacting like she does because she has been approached by the same type of men, a hundred times this month.
