If so many people asked how to approach in a gym that means that a lot of people who go to the gym actually want to meet people there.

So while they might look like they are all there to focus on their work out and not wanting to talk to absolutely anyone at all ever, as if somehow they all hated people and making friends. The reality is a lot of them do want to talk, but are afraid.

Most people are afraid because they are projecting their own insecurities onto everyone else.

When someone at the gym feels hesitant to approach others because they believe everyone else is solely focused on their workout and not interested in socializing, it's a form of projection. This means they're projecting their own feelings and assumptions onto others.

In this case, you might feel insecure about initiating conversations because you personally value your workout time and assume that everyone else feels the same way. You might worry that approaching someone would be seen as interrupting their workout or bothering them, based on your own perspective.

But this doesn’t accurately reflect the attitudes or desires of others at the gym. While some people may prefer to focus solely on their workouts, many others are open to friendly interactions and enjoy connecting with fellow gym-goers.

So, the projection lies in assuming that everyone shares the same perspective and priorities as oneself, without considering the diversity of attitudes and preferences among gym attendees.

When a girl complains about a guy who approaches girls, it’s because he probably was doing it wrong, probably only talking to every girl on the gym all the time making that a priority, maybe cat calling them, or objectifying them, or always following them around, never taking no for an answer, maybe staring at their bodies way too much, or maybe just being awkward because he doesn’t have a fun easy going personality…

Since most guys suck at talking to girls it’s possible that some girls who get hit on all the time might just assume that every guy is just as bad, so they say “don’t approach us ever, leave us alone”, but she is only talking about herself first of all, and secondly if you have social intelligence, social skills, and are smart about how you do the approach that same girl won’t even feel like you have cold approached.

For example, the smartest way to meet people on gyms is not to hit on them directly, but play the long game instead. Socialising with people in a friendly way, socialising with the trainer, the person who cleans, other guys, but not having full conversations just saying hi here and there, and then moving on. Eventually people see you as the friendly guy who always says hi to everyone and are more receptive to talking with you.

When women say they don't want to be hit on by men at the gym, they mean they don't want to be hit on by unattractive men who are socially incompetent and can't take a hint. If you are attractive, muscular, good looking, can take a hint when a woman don't want to talk to you any longer (socially calibrated), there is nothing creepy about approaching women there. I have literally dated multiple women concurrently while they were at the gym at the same time. You can actually hit on women there.

I actually used the gym to get over approach anxiety tbh. Never got a negative response for “bothering” anyone. I’d usually just approach, keep things light and quick, and just go for the number/insta close. Got rejected tons of times obviously, but still, despite all you hear about not approaching at the gym no woman I ever spoke to was outrightly hostile or mean or anything. I found it to be the same as approaching anywhere. Some are receptive, some aren’t. No one was mean tho.

Start with taking some popular exercise classes if your gym offers them. These usually have a 4:1 women to man ratio and most of the girls tend to be hot. Become a regular. Every time you come in for class, come a bit early, greet everyone, banter a little bit. With time you will know most girls there and you can start talking to them outside of class if you run into them as well.

Since your social skills are decent you should treat gym as social circle, gradually have a woman warm up by just starting off with “Hey” with a smile one day, then progressively but slowly ramping up the interactions. Facial expression is key on knowing when to continue vs not. There’s guides online on how to do that.

I've been hitting the gym for 18 years this year, It is no place to approach girls. There can be exceptions like with any rule but the rate of success its not good generally speaking. Thats my humble take

Consider what it’s going to be like to frequent your gym knowing you are going to see this person afterwards, it could go well and eventually you might break up or you come off as creepy or get rejected. Are you able to overlook this and continue your routine? Also if you talk to many of the gym girls you may come off as a jerk/fuck it just trying to get something

Try to observe who she is there with before going in. When you approach, just don’t be weird about it. Keep it lighthearted.

I just moved to a new area so I always use the excuse of trying to meet new people. Works pretty well for me, even if it’s a place I frequent there are plenty of girls I haven’t seen before.

I’ve gotten several numbers with this strategy. For the love of god keep it to 1-2 maximum per session, you don’t want to be going around hitting on everyone

gym is an exelent place. way better than bars, or clubs, which many people are recomending. approaching at the gym is good as long as you know when to back away. thing with the gym is, you see a female, you smile, she smile back. then the next time you see her, you can say hi. with the bar, you only get one chance. another mistake that pick up artists make is that they try to dump everything on a female all at once cause they only get one try on the street. with the gym, you get many tries, so you can stretch it out, and not dump everything all at once. that way it seems more natural. trying to make someone your best friend in 5 minutes is just not realistic
