This is the major reason why most interaction shouldn’t be scripted. Social conventions or human behaviors are kinda weird in a sense where it’s fluid like water flows, not rigid like 1+1=2.

You have to have that “click” moment where you learned that “oh I came on too strong,” or “that doesn’t sound right”, or “this convo is boring, she is boring.” You can’t learn that thru tutorials or even a text book.

It’s like the “you gotta be there - oh it’s a geographical joke”- scene from The Office. Or the Bill Burr’s bit “No means No, but it always depends on how you say it.”

This is true for all counter-intuitive truths. I spend a lot of time trying to convey my ideas concisely in my posts and its a real challenge.

Personally I think the most powerful concepts cannot be written down or communicated. I've tried. People have to learn this through experience, and i can only guide them close to it the best I can.

Yes and no.

It's very much like that in many ways. You absolutely can learn from making mistakes repeatedly, and then picking up the patterns and adapting in order to do better. In fact, some aspects can ONLY be learned through repeated trials and picking things up intuitively (like the concept of "game sense" if you've ever played counter strike or other competitive games)

However, on the other hand my dad taught me to ride a bike and it was much faster than if I had learned through pure trial and error. I also learned how to ride a unicycle a few years back through pure trial and error, and it took me a lot longer to learn than when I taught my friend and he picked it up in about half the time. Same with my dating students. They pick up the skill set in a fraction of the time it took me because they're not operating through pure trial and error.
