How do you get "in state"?

Normally to "feel" an emotion, our subconscious goes through a checklist of conditions.

Is this girl smiling? Yes
Is she being receptive to my advances? Yes
Is she the hottest girl in the room? Yes -OK you feel awesome.

Know what your conditions are and change either the conditions or the resulting emotion.

Am I being myself? Yes
Am I giving this my best effort? Yes
Did I at least approach? Yes -OK you feel awesome

getting in state functionally means feeling good. What makes you feel good? sing to music. be ridiculous. dance. drink alcohol, do drugs (not recommended, but Im not here to tell you what to do), talk to friends. talk to strangers. talk to girls. Have fun. Stop thinking about things so much and let loose. Get out of your head. Doing all of the above is probably very effective for most people.

If talking to girls and getting rejected lowers your state, this is the definition of outcome dependence. Do things because you want to do them. Dont let others dictate how you should have fun and the fun never stops.

I have been experimenting on a personal project. Whenever I am losing state or trying to gain state, I literally stop what I am doing, literally step back, and literally demand to the person next to me for my fun back. Whatever they say (who cares), I grab the metaphorical ball of fun right in front of them, add other fun spheres from other people around me, and absorb it into myself. Before you say "what the actual fuck", the moral of my story is: There are an infinite amount of ways you can get into state, so get creative and find what works for you.

I find the best way to get into state is to just get past 1-2 really hard rejections. Literally push yourself into moderate/difficult sets and just stay in set for as long as you can. If it ends up terribly that's good because you'll pretty much be numb to rejection and outcome for the rest of the night. It's just those first approaches that you have to get through.

State in the original way it was meant is a combination of two things- having fun and becoming highly socially unstifled. (Some guys are naturally this way and need little to no warm up to be like this, others have to slowly change their habits)

You unstifle by pushing your limits socially, doing progressively ballsier things. In the past, most advice about getting in state focused on this. In reality the process will probably take a good deal longer than one night.

Later on people began to focus more on the currently popular self amusement. You self amuse by training yourself to do things in order to make yourself laugh. This is also a more lengthy process, with you reminding yourself things like why you are out, (to have your own fun) why you made that joke, (to make yourself laugh) even if others don't respond well, etc. You learn to focus on this process and let go of the outcome, of needing good reactions. Eventually your brain starts to get in the rhythm and you start creating your own fun more and more easily, and worrying less and less about people's individual reactions.

Hmm for me I guess I have to get my mouth moving and warmed up. Talking to strangers first, warm up girl, to make myself feel better. I'm still new in this so I have yet to come up with a "in state"

I found this TED talk on "faking it until you mean it" helpful.

Once you get over her nervous body language and anxious, constrained voice and crying episode, you'll see she's on to something. Over time there's no difference between "you" and "being in state".

for me it's being a social butterfly. like coming into a place and immediately saying hello to people I know, introducing myself to any friends with them I don't know yet and moving on to even meet complete strangers ( I befriend people extremely easily ) until I'm just constantly hopping around going from group to group and introducing people to each other... as opposed to coming in with one group of friends and staying with them the whole time and knowing exactly how your night is going to go.

but I'm a socialite. it's probably different for everyone

Hey throwawayjohns,

Focus on building social momentum. Start with small approaches and add a little more to each conversation.

Don't think you need to be in state to get girls though. I love those nights when I'm really ON, but to be honest it's pretty rare. It's something that anybody who's been in the game for a few years is completely addicted to though.

Again, build momentum. Focus on the process instead of looking for the outcome of being in state. Realize that if it happens 1/20 nights out, you'll be doing well.
