The one big thing we strive to do is get out of small talk and have some more meaningful conversations. So therefore I'm still undecided on the effectiveness of "nerd" talk... Ok. I'm not really talking about conversations on the depths of a computer game or a technical subject that you've read and wouldnt be interesting to anyone else. I'm talking about conversations about a hobby, a subject of interest, perhaps culture or history...perhaps even some mild politics etc. Is it simply the fact the conversations with women should always be fun, light-hearted, not-too-serious or heavy... Not something that reveals you have a certain intellectual interest. In fact, anything that comes across as too deep or specialist might wind up becoming awkward, strange and yes, nerdy... Or just not the sort of conversation you would have with a romantic partner, even if it might show you to be knowledgeable. Like remember in American Wedding when Finch and Stifler were both vying for the bride's sister, I could never imagine talking about philosophy or Voltaire to really work in real life!
