Also.. you might be over emphasizing having plans. Meet at a coffee shop. Take her grocery shopping. Have a picnic. Come over and watch Game of Thrones... whatever. The wall isn't not knowing what to do with the number, it's your inability to self-prescribe.

The main issue is that I usually wait too long to make contact again because I feel I don't have any good plans to invite them to.

Don't wait so long. Put more effort into having more fun things going on in your life. Invite girls to do things that aren't particularly exciting (who cares if happy hour has been done 1000 times? it's still an okay date).

There is absolutely no chance you couldn't have worked out the solution yourself. Do you think girls want a guy who has to go to the internet asking for help every time he hits an obstacle, or a guy who takes care of shit and gets it done?

There's too much bullshit on here about what to do once you get the number. Some say you should text her there and then with a smart witty message so she'll know who you are when you message her again.
Others say you should leave it for a day or two until you have plans etc.
To be quite honest you need to figure out what works best for you. If you're quick witted and funny then by all means go for the on the spot text so she'll know who you are. If you struggle with coming across as funny by text then leave it til the next day. Text her something stupid, something funny or just shoot the shit about something you both have in common. Do not text her all the time and for the love of GOD do not use lol, haha or emoticons the whole time, she won't take you seriously.
What works best for me is after I get the number I tell her I'll call her the next day. The next day I message her, tell her it was fun meeting her, shoot the shit for a bit then cut the interaction short by making some excuse about being busy or having to go out. If you don't have plans then make some, go out with some friends and mention it to her a couple days before. Leave it at that and don't message her again until the night you're going out.
