Let me just clarify it for you.

At any point in life you aren't prepared for anything birth, death , buying a house , marriage none of it.
Everything can just turn to dust in 2 seconds. Still we have to go and persevere.

Get out there and talk to anyone and everyone, learn what makes people laugh and what turns them off, by all means continue to study and improve your knowledge but you’ll only get better when you fail then try again and succeed.

Books and courses are supplements. You really want to be doing approaches, taking mental notes, and then asking yourself (or others, preferably not the ones you're talking to) what you might do differently based on the responses you get.

Above all, active practice is what you need, not opinions you haven't seen play out between actual humans. On that note, watching or listening to unscripted content is a good way to get a sense of how to banter or hold conversations.

Edit: A bit confused by how the question was worded, but yes, good social skills are a foundation on which to build a better life, be that pickup or not. You can try to work on both at the same time, but if you think you bore the shit out of people or can't hold conversations with strangers, maybe that's what you should think about working on before moving on to flirting. I personally think flirting is just something you layer on a good social foundation.

You should learn the framework and some techniques of night game and then go practice irl. Then learn alittle and go practice and again. You need to see what works and doesn’t to improve. It is not doing this before so that. It is doing both. Just like getting good at anything. The learning and practicing go hand in hand.

Let me ask you, what was your thought of learning theory first? Most individuals would probably answer with the "logcial" thing, go out and then learn & adapt. To be honest I don't support this approach. I mean there is already a reason, why we consider learning first right, because we are probably not as naturally gifted as others who simply can go out and feel confident without the necessary skills. What I did was: learn the theory first and then go out - not everything of course, but enough. It worked out great.
