Hello seddit! This is my first post here as I have been a lurker for about 2-3 weeks now and I would like to share with you my first approach…ever. This might not seem like a monumental event to most of you, but to me it felt akin to turning on the ignition when first learning how to drive (bad analogy I know XD). Sorry for the long post in advance but I like to try and paint a picture when I try to tell a story XD.

So first let me introduce myself to you ladies and gentlemen. I am 21 and in college and I would describe myself as an introvert around strangers, but when I am with my friends I am an extrovert (if that makes sense). I would consider myself not in the fit side, but due to my height (6’1”) and my prowess in using dark shirts, I get by. I am also new to reddit in general as I have only been browsing the site for 3 weeks now, at the most. I would also like to thank everyone in this subreddit (yes even the beginners as they have asked some very good questions which resulted in the nice veterans to gratuitously bestow upon us their knowledge).

Onto the story. Earlier today, in the morning actually, while I was studying I would take break and read some posts on seddit. The post/s that most affected me were the ones posted by tofusensei and (I forgot your screen name T_T) his friend on their night out in Tokyo. Reading about their night out , for some reason, gave me a surge of confidence.

Fast forward to later on in the afternoon after my 2 exams and I was feeling tired as I previously pulled an all-nighter. I decided to treat myself to Starbucks as I rarely if ever go there. On the way to Starbucks I told myself that I would approach a girl if she looked interesting (aka pretty XD) and damn the consequences! Upon walking up to the door I first notice a man using his laptop as he was close to the door, but as I continued to look inside I found this girl that was sitting by a table close to the counter. Upon seeing her, a smile somehow ended up on my face and when I walked past her on the way to the counter, she looked up from her laptop and smiled back! After placing my order I decided to go to the bathroom because I had to wash the smell of a cigarette I had smoked prior to leaving the college. On my way back to the counter I was about to talk to the girl but the person working the counter told me my drink was ready. While I was walking toward the area to pick up my drink, I turned around and asked the girl if there was anyone sitting next to her. She said no and while I was getting the straw to place on my drink, I looked over my shoulder and saw her moving her laptop case to make room for me! I had a “Fuck Yeah” comic strip moment. I then proceeded to sit myself next to her, looked ever at her laptop screen and asked what she was doing. My heart rate was increasing as I had never been in this situation before (approaching a girl I didn’t know that is). The conversation went like this:

Me: Hey, what are you doing?

Her: Oh just doing annotated bibliographies for class.

I was trying to maintain eye contact but I looked to her screen after 3-4 (loooong) seconds.

Me: Oh which class?

Her: It’s for history

Me: Oh world history? American History?

I was thinking to myself “if I tried the threading method would it work?”

Her: No just history

(I was slightly confused as I didn’t know a college class was just named history) So I then asked her

Me: Who’s your teacher at the college? Mr. SoAndSo? Or Mrs. SoAndSo?

Her: (she smiles ) Oh I don’t go to college I’m still in highschool. But my teacher is this old lady and I don’t understand why we have to do this annotated bibliography.

Me (Thinking to myself): (http://www.nooooooooooooooo.com/ make sure to click the button)

I immediately had images and .gifs of Pedo-Bear run through my head. I didn’t know if I should proceed or not and for some reason I felt that what I was doing was illegal. But on the ride back home I decided that that was a ridiculous notion. But after she said that I was definitely startled. I didn’t say anything for a second or two so I just said:

Me: Ahh I see so do you come here a lot? To do your studying and what not?

I was so smooth.

Her: Well I usually live (at a different city that is around 20-30 minutes away) but I go to school here and since it is a long drive on the way home I thought I would stop by here for a little bit and do some studying. (This was what she said but I forgot the exact words. How do I respond to this?)

Me: Wow that is a long drive (I should’ve asked why she goes to school her instead of her city tsk tsk tsk). The teachers over there must suck if you have to come all the way over here.
Her: Laughs

I forgot the rest of the conversation, but since I was still hung up about her being in highschool, after we exchanged a few more words I decided to leave about a minute after. I told her “Hey it was nice to meet you, by the way what’s your name?” She tells me it was nice to meet you too then she gives me her name and then I say “Alright (name) I’ll see you around if we somehow see each other here again” (omfg so lame right?) Before I leave she asks for my name and I give it to her…my name that is. So I smile and tell her good bye and good luck with your paper and she miles back and says good bye.

As you can see my first approach was a failure and hopefully I can do better in my next approaches. Sorry once again for the long read but hopefully you guys won’t get mad T_T.

Also can you point out what you see I did wrong here? I know I did a lot wrong but I was wondering how you guys would have handled it? Thanks for the replies and hopefully one day I end up being the one giving advice to the beginners (long ways off!). Thanks again seddit!

edit: I would say my goal in pick up is not mainly to pick-up women just for sex (but I guess that's one of the by products of having good "game"), but I want it to be a part of me so that I can be social with anyone (they enjoy hanging out with me and every meeting is memorable...in a good way) and hopefully one day find the woman that i'd be willing to spend the rest of my life with.
